Review: Some days are simply those days. They are hard to describe. The world isn't bleak. The sun is shining. You aren't really tired. You weren't recently dumped or fired; hell, you may have even found something you have long since lost. But for some reason, something is off.
The day does its thing and eventually you get home. You've been longing for that moment for a while and when it comes, it feels better than you remembered. You grab your mail, toss the junk in the recycling, toss the bills in a pile, and open whatever Fun might be leftover. Some days there is no Fun in the mail, other days there is Fun that you've been expecting; then occasionally, there is unexpected Fun waiting for you.
The thing about the unexpected Fun is that you sometimes don't know if it'll be any good. When you've had one of Those Days, sometimes gambling isn't what you want to do. Sometimes you want comfort. The comfort of an old and worn sweatshirt and pajamas. Maybe a soft blanket and the corner of your couch. Those Days can get rather intense.
A few weeks ago I was having one of those days and when I got home, I poured myself a glass of single malt and looked at my new Fun that came in the mail. One of the items was completely unexpected and I had no idea what I might be in store for. I tossed the bio/write-up in the recycling without reading it -because those things are pointless and annoying- and I put the CD into my player. Immediately, I was calmed, absorbed, and enraptured by the atmosphere that was beginning to unfold around me.
Keramick & Lobo have crafted a wonderfully mellow, calming, and entrancing album of softness and compassion. Boards of Canada, Kixotek, Radiohead, Pulseprogramming, Telefon Tel Aviv. These are the worlds that this albums is bound to. Glitchy, atmospheric, soulful, pop n' guitars, vocals n' distorted kicks. Haunting and precious.
Everything that I needed at that moment.
And now, as I am listening to the end of the album for some unknown and virtually countless time, the serenading saxophone ushers me along my quest for peace while the beat of the drum simplistically pounds out its monotonous drone, creating a trance that could welcome in a long coma before the pulse of the heartbeat dissolves and the final lullaby whispers hope into my ear.
This is what good downtempo sounds like. This is an album that I understand. This is quality. This is bliss.
This is Keramick & Lobo. This is The Braille.
Close your eyes and feel it.

Exogenic Breaks presents in collaboration with Funkatech Records:
Far Too Loud vs Code Zero’s track entitled ‘Blackout’ , with three bonus remixes by Exogenic artists Headphonics, Kiwa and Muffler & Genki. This release will be available for download from the 24th August ’09 on Exogenic Breaks and the vinyl will be available with the Original and Headphonics mixes on Funkatech Records.
The original has been in many a DJ’s bag for a while now and has been causing a stir on dancefloors around the world. FTL and Codezero come with a deep dark breaks roller which is heads down vibes all the way!!!
Headphonics is a collaboration between Make Louhio and Tommi Sirkiä in their search of a perfect mix of electronic and conventional music, taking inspiration from old movie soundtracks, classic 70..s funk, comics, house, breaks, drum ..n bass and hip hop.
Their remix of ‘Blackout’ is a tight production with strong psygressive elements. The remix starts with breakbeats á la Headphonics and ends up uniting the psy-ish dimensions.
Kiwa is a project of two Finnish long time producers Matti Elsinen and Make Louhio. They have their backgrounds in the early Finnish psy-trance scene, but later took slightly different paths concentrating more on electro house, progressive and breakbeat influenced production, maintaining the psychedelic soundscape in their tunes.
The Kiwa reworking of ‘Blackout’ is a slightly slower tempo turn on electro house, which features original progressive elements on the surface of their trademark funky bass lines.
Genki and Muffler are two Helsinki based junglist wizards and pioneering prophets in the genre in their homeland as well as abroad.
These warriors mix turns ‘Blackout’ into a tech drum and bass roller.

BOOZOO BAJOU (!K7 Records)
After 10 years of forward-thinking musical fusion, Boozoo Bajou return with their most seductive and sophisticated album yet, 'Grains'. The producers Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider are already widely respected around the globe for their unique blend of modern electronica with blues, jazz, soul, latin and dub elements. But on 'Grains', the Nuremberg duo take a lighter and brighter path, absorbing acoustic folk and classic songwriting into their progressive musical journey. Boozoo Bajou earned global attention with their irresistible breakthrough single 'Night Over Manaus' in 1998, their 2001 debut album 'Satta' and its 2005 sequel 'Dust My Broom'. They also demonstrated their excellent and wide-ranging musical taste on two excellent mix compilations, 'Juke Joint' and 'Juke Joint II'. Yet 'Grains' marks a dazzling new chapter in Boozoo Bajou's career. This is the duo's most organic album so far, making beautiful new sounds by blending modern studio electronics with live instruments and guest vocals. An album of underground and experimental sounds, but based on strong melodies and emotionally charged vocals. As on their previous albums, Boozoo Bajou have made something fresh and modern from their old-school inspirations, weaving them into their 21st century studio soundscapes. "We didn't try to make an authentic West Coast album, it's just that laidback California thing was in the back of our minds," Florian explains. "It coloured the whole thing." 'Grains' is another lovely acid-folk ballad with a broad cinematic sweep. "With this track especially, we had the West Coast feel," says Florian. "I really get a feeling of oceans when I hear this, a wide Pacific Ocean." Both inside and out, 'Grains' is an intoxicating mix of past, present and future. A folk songbook for the 21st century. A soulful statement for today. Boozoo Bajou have made their finest album to date. www.myspace.com/boozoobajou

Keramick & Lobo is a project by two long time friends and emerging electronic music producers Jussi Mikkonen and Visa Mäkinen hailing from Helsinki, Finland. They have been experimenting with hip hop, downtempo and such since their young teens. Both of them have a background in musical studies and a great passion for producing the electronic sounds. The music of the duo can be described as melodic and electro-acoustic. As their sound borrows a lot from electronic music styles such as idm, downtempo, ambient and glitch, it also compiles the characteristics of acoustic music like jazz, dub, pop and even a bit of rock. This reflects in a heavy use of instruments such as electric bass, electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards and drums mixed together in a subtle fusion with the computer programming and electronic aspects. Their newer music also features guest musicians, which widens their instrumental spectrum with instruments like acoustic bass, reed and brass instruments and even vocalists.
The debut-album Digital White was released as a small pressing through their own indie-label Freaky Beats Productions in July of 2007 and in worldwide mp3-distribution by Exogenic Breaks Records in October 2008. They are currently working on their second full-length album which scheduled to be released in April 2009. www.myspace.com/digitalwhite www.exogenicbreaks.com
