Let Them Eat Skate! - The Pirate City Rollers' 2008 Season, Auckland Central, 23 August 2008

Hang on tight Auckland, because the Pirate City Rollers' 2008 season is set to be harder, faster and more brutal than ever before!

New Zealand's first all-girl roller derby league have been working hard all year to train fresh meat and veterans alike, and now these bloodthirsty broads are ready to LET THEM EAT SKATE!

If you've been living under a rock, you may be torturously unaware that the sport of roller derby has been resurrected- but gone is the spandex, choreography and WWF-style in-fighting that defined derby's last inception- today's brand is all-female and all real, combining fierce athleticism, sex appeal and real action.
All the spills, thrills, bruises and bloodshed are real!

The Pirate City Rollers, formed in 2006, have built their league from a meagre fifteen women to one mighty league and three fierce teams- the Blackheart Bruisers, Dead Wreckoning and Mascara Massacre. Their 2007 season was a hit, with every bout filled to capacity with adoring fans, whose screams were as loud as the punk rock music pumping through the speakers.
Donning dynamic uniforms and sassy attitudes, the Pirates skated, pushed and shoved their way to the top, and have been featured in newspapers, magazines and television programmes throughout the country and the world.

The girls have pulled out all the stops for the 2008 'LET THEM EAT SKATE!' season, and now offer fans the chance to get up close and personal with the Pirates in the new on-rink suicide seating- enter at your own risk!

Whether its cheap-as-chips refreshments, Auckland's hottest bands at the after-match function, or the grinding, belting excitement of roller derby you're into, this year the buzz is bigger than ever, so get down to Panmure's Skateland when doors open at 6pm to ensure entry. Games WILL sell out- you have been warned.

Don your favourite team's colours and bring your loudest cheering voice, for now is the time to LET THEM EAT SKATE!

NEXT BOUT: August 23 - Skateland, Panmure – Doors at 6pm

FEATURED BAND: The first band to join rock the 2008 season is blues-ridden, dirty rock 'n rollers The Randoms. After winning the regional final of the 2007 Smokefree Rockquest, this Auckland-based trio is set to rock Skateland after the season's first bout. Check them out at www.therandoms.co.nz.
