The day after returning from China, I had a short-notice chance to work on a new song for a contest on icompositions.com   The contest was Olympic Spirit, and the song, "Go for Gold."   You can read details of the experience here on Scott Villard's myspace blog:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=3518198&blogID=426628307

We had a great time working together - a drummer in Australia, song-writer/bass/vocals in Oregon, and guitar/vocals in Hawaii, all in 24 hours.

The picture for the song was made by Garni, with some photo-shopping of the Birds Nest - you can see the original pictures on my facebook page:

Thanks for stopping by,

Hello Myspace World,

Looking at our page tonight, I realized we haven't posted any new songs or information here in months...    We've been slacking in keeping this page up to date because most of our music now gets posted to http://www.icompositions.com/Artists/NorthPoint    There are a dozen or so new songs posted there including many blues tunes that Alan contributed to this summer (mostly Lyrics, with a few vocals and bass lines as well).   In fact, just today (Sept 23) Bridge Creek (myspace.com/bridgecreek ) played the song "Cure to this Disease" live at Portland Saturday Market and dedicated it to the many people in the audience who had just completed Race for the Cure, an annual event to support Breast Cancer research (http://www.komenoregon.org/)   You can hear the studio version of the song at
http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=68083   (it was written while this year's Waterfront Blues Festival was happening, and inspired by local Portland blues great Curtis Salgado).

In other news, two songs that Alan co-wrote make it to 2 on the top weekly songs on icompositions.com and both are among the top songs of the year with over 300 plays each.
Hear "Curse of the Common Man", written with John LaMantia in Chicago, at:
http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=71198
Hear "The Dark Before the Dawn" performed with Jeff Mahoney (Canada), Fulvio Romano (Italy), and Porland's own blues vocal sensation Reina Collins: in her debut icompositions performance:
http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=73352

Reina is in the studio recording a new album, so watch for it this fall.

And, what about those 4 new NorthPoint songs we started in January?    Well Kenny and I are still working on them - we're hoping to get the drum tracks and guitars all finalized this month, add our vocals, maybe add some other instruments (keyboards, etc etc) and then post all 4 sometime this year on icompositions.com   We'll keep you posted on icomp and here on myspace (when we remember to check it :)   The songs are Roll Like a River, Black Cloud Girl, Fallin' Angel, and Hallelujah Free.

Charlie is staying very busy in Second Hand Buzz, and had a couple of great gigs this summer with The Rust.  Catch them on their websites for the latest information.

Kenny is playing steady with Big Mama Gayle, and they were down at the C&I in Tualatin this weekend.

Have a great fall!!

We got drums recorded this weekend on 4 brand new tracks.   Joel played great and nailed everything in 1-2 takes!   We made progress on "Fallin' Angel", "Black Cloud Girl", "Roll Like a River", and "Hallelujah Free".   Over the next few weeks, we'll get some guitar tracks from Josh, get the rest of bass/guitars/vocals done, and then get to work on another 4 songs:  most likely "Chills", "Why Mississippi", "One Horse Town", and "Treat Me Right."   In addition to thse 8 songs we have 9 more in the works, so we'll see how many we'll get completed in the sessions over the coming weeks.     Once we have a good final mix on one of the songs, we'll post them to http://icompositions.com/artists/NorthPoint

Next weekend, we're preparing to record the next NorthPoint project, tentatively entitled "Cumberland Road."    We'll likely record some of the songs we have been playing live lately at places like Katie Bullard's (and Karl's god rest) Dublin Pub including "Fallin' Angel" (a song inspired by Pacific Northwest musician David Vest), "Hallelejuh Free" (a brand new song that Kenny wrote), "Fight On" (thanks to Erik Olaf on ideas for this tune), "Black Cloud Girl" and hopefully a few others.   I think people will like "Judy Blue Echo" because it reminds me of some Pink Floyd songs that have meant a lot to me.   And "Why Mississippi" is the kind of song that just might make Robert Johnson roll over in his grave.   Speaking of which, if all goes well we'll re-record "Muddy Water" and let Joel and Josh do their thing - if that doesn't make people remember that New Orleans is the City that Care Forgot, I don't know what will.   We listened to Lucinda Williams tonight on Soundstage and if any of that rubs off on us we'll be, as Stevie said to Billy Triplett one rainy night in Oregon, in "Angels Wings."

Peace,

-- the NorthPoint boys

Hello World,

We had a great time at the Dublin Pub last night, along with the Keegan Smith band.   Thanks to everyone who came out, and those that took home a CD too :)   We had a great time, and seemed like "Muddy Water" went over especially well with some great guitars and drumming from Josh Hundley and Joel Redwine.

We'll try and get some live recordings posted soon.   There is now a NorthPoint site on icompositions.com.   Check it out at http://www.icompositions.com/artists/NorthPoint    We're thankful for all the good support we're getting from the icompositions community.

Best wishes to all in 2007!    -- NorthPoint

Happy Holidays everyone!

We had a very fun benefit show last weekend at St Henry's Parish in Gresham.   It was a wonderful holiday evening of music and dancing.   Everyone had a great time, and we might have had the best time of all.   We posted a picture of Charlie and Kenny from the show on our myspace site.   Send a mail if you want some mp3s from the show - Kenny sang "Merry Christmas Baby" which was a lot of fun.

Hope to see you all on January 20th at the Dublin Pub.   Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Take care,

-- NorthPoint   Kenny, Charlie Alan

Hi Folks!   We just booked a show on Saturday January 20 2007 at the Dublin Pub.   The pub is located at  6821 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy, 503-297-2889.  http://dublinpubpdx.com     We are hoping to have a few surprises in store for everyone who comes - we're working on 2-3 brand new songs that if all goes well ought to end up on a NorthPoint recording sometime in 2007.    We are also looking into having another guitar player and vocalist join the lineup and start performing as a 4-piece to round out our live sound.

We have a benefit show on Saturday December 16 at the St Henry's Parish.  This is always a great chance for us each year to give a little back to the community, and we always have a fabulous time playing for the kids - last year we had a great turnout with over 100 kids bussed in, and a good holiday time was had by all.    Kenny even learned "Merry Christmas Baby" and taught it to Alan and Charlie before the show :)

Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Happy Holidays,

NorthPoint - Charlie, Alan, Kenny

Happy October!!

For a limited time, our latest CD "Wildwood Trail" is on sale for only 5 bucks at http://cdbaby.com/northpoint

We had a great time down at Saturday Market on Sept 23/24. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. we had some pictures emailed to us, which we'll try to get posted on this myspace site. Also, we sold more CDs over the weekend than ever before so we really appreciate all the support. We booked 2 private shows from the weekend too, which should be a lot of fun. We played a few brand new songs including "Roll Like a River", "Black Cloud Girl", "One Horse Town", "Fight On", and "Fallin' Angel". We'll keep working on these, plus about 10 more that we're in the process of writing and rehearsing, with our sites on another CD in 2007.

We are all really busy in October/November. We are looking to add a guitar player to the lineup, and then get some shows booked in December/January, then if all goes well get to work on our third CD in early 2007.

Have a great Fall, and thanks for visiting our Blog! Send us a mail, and we're all looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello!

We had a great time at Music Millennium a week ago.   Thanks to everyone who came out to hear us.  We had a ball, and appreciate all your support of our latest CD Wildwood Trail.   A big Thank You to the staff at Music Millennium who made the evening extra special.  There are some songs and pictures from the Music Millennium in-store performance posted at http://northpointrock.com

Next show is in two weeks, at Portland Saturday Market, both days Saturday/Sunday September 23/24 from noon-5pm.   We're hoping to play a couple of brand new songs that we have been working on this summer.   We have about a dozen new songs that we're starting to rehearse and refine, to get ready for live shows in the fall.   If all goes well we'll get to work on a third CD in the fall/winter, for release in '07.

See you soon!
