INTERVIEW - Purpose - http://www.myspace.com/ipurposemusic

ARTIST: Purpose

DATE: 2009-04-22

BY: Najashi

Interview Najashi..s Narrations Vibe Views

Ian Chang, 'Purpose' is a talented singer who ventured into music at a very tender age. "I can remember when I would pound desks and sing at school ", he says. Like most Jamaican artistes, Purpose nurtured his singing in church and was encouraged by his mother, while taking his inspiration from legendary Jamaican singers like Garnet Silk, Jah Cure and International Artistes like Michael Bolton and Ray Charles.

A promising and very enthusiatic performer, who has preformed locally as well as on the international stage. Purpose hopes to leave a positive mark in the music industry. His songs are about the struggles faced in our daily life, they encourages faith and perseverance. Purpose has a smooth and charming delivery with the most touching lyrics heard in years. One listen to Purpose and you will see and feel why this artist is destined for greatness.

Currently, Purpose is working on his upcoming album with JABUKEM Music Group producer Alex Martin- Blanken. It is Purpose conviction to stay true and real and he vows to keep his music positive. Watch out for Purpose coming at you, with Fresh Music with a Positive Flow.

What is the meaning of your name?

Realizing that there was a call on my life to amplify love through music and seeing that I always try to maintain a conscious and positive outlook be it in my music or my life, I chose the name Purpose which means mandated, convicted. Reggae music needs this type of conviction, a man is only as strong as his purpose, It is my purpose (my mandate, my conviction) to bring back to reggae music a more positive and conscious voice

What does your music bring to the reggae genre?

My music , my songs, brings about the conscience that the genre has yearned for. It's sincere and soul touching lyrics in its truest ,purest and most humble form. My concerns are for the people, the common people, the children, the poor, those suffering, those looking for a way out. Thats what my music brings to the reggae genre, concern for the everyday people not bling bling, flashy videos and big bank accounts , just plain and true concern

Who influenced you? And what is your motivation?

My influence comes from the almighty himself and life, and my motivation again is life ,watching what my music does to people, how it moves and inspires them, along with the joy and fulfillment I get from that. When I hear people singing my songs and enjoying the lyrics (because I write for the young and the old) that motivates me beyond anything else.

What do you see as the future of reggae and music in general?

I see reggae music in the future touching lives and changing mindsets, as long as we realise and embrace the fact that there is a new voice a fresh voice a generation of artiste who are committed to the task then we will see some phenomenal results, but music all is all has a good looking future, music is part of life.

Playing or recording what do you prefer?

I cant play music to save my life so that's easy, I prefer recording, it is very fulfilling to take some words off a piece of paper add music and make a song for all to enjoy.

Please tell the folks what you would like them to know

That purpose is serious about his music, I'm not fake I mean what I sing. I want to see people loving, laughing, praising, dancing and living. and I am real emotional about my music, but don't tell anyone. You can learn more about Purpose @ www.myspace.com/ipurposemusic

Greetings to one of the BEST new artist I've heard in ah long time,

You can't jus listen to this artist you also have to feel the words of each song and let them become ah part of you, for the positively is overflowing in each and every song.

"Mama I love you" had me thinking of Sizzla Kalonji song "Thanks you Mama" or even Gyptian's "Mama Don't Cry" both my favorite now I add another Mama Song to my list Purpose "Mama I love you",

but I didn't stop there I had to listen to "Tragedy" and was once again blown away the rich and smooth voice took me away to the really good days of Beres Hammond I remember "Rockaway" yes I miss those days remember those songs that made your Rockaway. now we have "Tragedy" and it's doing the same. it's going to make you Rockaway.

Listen to words people "You are my baby mi number one Lady fi life" "more than royal you are so natural" "You are mi queen woman you're so divine" yes song for the heart are my favorite ones and now I add yet another one of Purpose's song to my list

Maybe I said to myself I'll listen to another one hummmm lets see "Each Morning" ok that's it I am now officially ah fan of this artist. Listen to words people, feel the words, feel the pain, feel the joy, listen to the struggle.

As I read his bio things like "Purpose, a promising and very enthusiatic performer, hopes to leave a positive mark in the music industry" and "Purpose stays true to his conviction and vows to keep the music positive for the sky is the limit." made me realize that Purpose You are Fresh Music with ah Positive Flow

This month's Lady B Bless  I Music artist interview is with Faada Ras, a musical rastaman living in England, he loves to reason about love and his livity and chill while listening to some roots and old school R and B tunes. He calls Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Sanchez and Capleton among some of his favourite artists.

He is a musician, producer and a sound engineer

Blessed Love Faada Ras

Beside what we already know about you, Tell us some more about the man and his music.

Well the man has a whole lot to say as I've lived a life that can write a big book but here is a little about me,
Spreading love came to me when I had a reasoning with a Asian Muslim friend and after he left I just song the whole song in one take then wrote while listening to it being played back to me, here is a little bit about my history
I was Born in Spanish Town Jamaica and reaching these shores as a 12 year old to finish his schooling, I Grew up during the sound system years of the seventies when he used to do what was then called toasting on the mikes of sounds like, Imperial I, Upsetters,Turbo Charge, and as a guest on Saxon, Coxon, and in Jamaica on Peoples Choice, as well as fronting a band Called Majestic on tours nationally in England, Scotland and the Isle of wight,  supporting bands like Misty in Roots and Aswad and gaining nuff live experience both here and in Jamaica in the 80s, (where I spent 6 months at a time over 10 years working on a 4 track with up and coming artists like Major King, and others not so known. I spent the whole of the nineties producing artists like Kuchie B, Marga G, Mandella, on the road with Daddy Freddy Shabba, Tenna Fly, Cutty Ranks, to mention a few, The 2000,s sees Faadah Ras working with various youth clubs teaching and giving something back to the community from his own studio, working with the next generation of artists I even vocal training, lyrics writing, studio working, along with a few upcoming young spring chickens, like Dj Nex, Slimma G, and nurturing talents like The Fya Girls, and Xperteaze, Promoting raves featuring some of the nations top notch djs like Tim Westwood, Martin Larner, Chris Goldfinger, Rampage, Since 2005 I has worked on his own projects putting together my first album, after working for other people I feels I has paid my dues and now deserve to promote myself and move on, hence the album, "De Original Roots".

2.How do you describe your style of music, I feel the warm, calm and lay back nature of your music

My music is the music of my heart beat and everyone who feels it rather than listen to it will say its heartical roots reggae

3. I love the tune "Love Vibration" tells us about that song

Love Vibee ? well love vibe is an expression of my thoughts and feelings , it came to me when i came home from a dance where war broke out and  i just wrote it straight off the top of my head too same time there was a program on the t.v. about the trees being cut down worldwide and the way it will mashup the world etc so I just incorporated in the song,

4. You sing allot about Love tell us why

The reason for that is all about my personality as I'm a very loving rastaman and my livity is all about that, not just for mankind but for all living things

5. "Guide fe Life" my second Favorite tell us about that track

Well it says it all if you listen to in ,,Rastafari is being guided by Jah in all I do,  Jah Jah ah me guide in all I do and for life
6. The track "Ganga Free" Do tell us more

Well to be short, in england you have the sikh religion who are allowed to carry a small dagga as part of their religion, now most ras bun weed so im saying lef we mek we bun we green tree, the same way you lef the sikh man with his dagga

7.As a artist who do you draw your inspiration from

From the Father of all creation, revealed through I life experiences
8. Is there an album in the making if so when can we expect it out or is there already an album out

There is an album done but I haven't packaged it yet, it was to be out this year but I've got so many songs and always getting new songs so I might put out a double album, maybe December or more probably April next year

9.Why do you make music

I make music to spread Jah love, share my experiences and outlook and ideologies worldwide, oh and music is like a meditation that makes me feel better when I'm down or irritable, in other words its my head doctor and medicine

10 Anything else you would like the world to know about Faada Ras

I think the world has heard part of the fullness the rest they will have to get from my music

Yes I Give thanks for the blessed Interview Jah Guide

For all present and future Faada Ras Fan you can listen to his music on World of Jah
I strongly recommend "Love Vibration" "It's All about Love" and "Guide fe Life" those are tracks with meaning.

OPRAH'S EYES

January 4, 2007

OPRAH'S EYES

The experience I had over the last 6 days, has Changed the trajectory of my life.

I love it when she says that.

But this is not about Oprah,

but what Oprah does,

or rather the energy her deeds create.

It was a transformative experience to simply be in that energy.

I spoke to her once a day or so,

and I literally mean spoke,

as in one word and sometimes just a wave.

I didn't really CONNECT with OPRAH until the very last moment of my time in Johannesburg.

By that time the transformation had already been complete.

That moment was like watching the sun going down.   Simply the natural progression of things, yet some how, every time you see it, it feels like a rare moment.

Beautiful to Behold, especially from the perfect point of view.

That brief moment with Oprah was like watching the sun set in paradise.

What I learned from Oprah in South Africa didn't come from her lips, but rather, her presence.

By being close enough to observe her,

and ESPECIALLY! talk to her friends,

I learned so much,

about myself,

the world,

and my place in the world.

It was an initiation.

Oprah's friends are the highest and most excellent of world leaders in all areas.

The arts, humanities,

business and politics.

Executives

in entertainment,

film,

television

and

music.

Philanthropists, spiritual workers, philosophers, teachers, inventors, billionaires, authors, LEGENDS, ICONS and FUTURE legends and icons.

The words that didn't come from Oprah, came from them.

It was magic,

a miracle,

how I heard everything that I

needed to hear at this time in life from those people.

I not only met, but was received like a queen from the Goddesses,

CISCELY TYSON, (the fact that she even knew

who I was meant so much, the conversations we had, now, that is a whole

other essay!)

Her spirit was 45 years

younger than her body, that was a lesson in and of

itself.

Susan Taylor (well she received me as a princess, but that's only

because she knows my mom so well, she's the Queen in this family of

course)

Patti LaBelle,  (LOVE HER!)

Anna Deavere Smith (actor/playwright/professor/author)

Gayle King,

Marianne Williamson (she's awesome!)

Dr. Robin (one conversation by the

pool brought me so much understanding),

Caren Yanis (a true angel)

Sonya Anderson (an inspiration)

Amy Gross (editor-in-cheif of  O magazine)

Oprah's make up artist Reggie

(yes, I called him a goddess.. LOL!)

EVEN TinaTurner,

AND EVEN! the first African woman recipient of the Noble peace prize.

WANGARI MAATHAI!

WANGARI MATTHAI!!!!!!!!!!!

I met many WONDERFUL Kings, Scholars and Gentleman.

Sydney Portier is the most beautiful Pisces man,

ANGELIC actually.

Those of you who love astrology know

what I'm talking about.  It will take a whole other

essay to explain his beauty to you,

but for now,

for short,

that's how I'll describe him.

If only he were 45 years younger.

Then there's Steadman Graham, who I found out played street ball at

20th street gym with my father when I was a child.

Stedman and his friend Carl Redding,

stood 2 pillars, (6-6 PLUS!) Making me laugh with

stories about my father and seeing me as a child

courtside on the weekends.

Stedman said something I needed to hear to free me from a situation

I've been seeking closure to for YEARS!

But the magic was that I didn't ask, it was

that God was working through him on my behalf and he said PRECISELY

what I needed to hear.

Wintley Phipps (a new hero for me), a classical

Gospel singer/philosopher/wise man/motivational

speaker, Prayed with Chris Tucker and me.

That prayer healed me,

it was the only time I cried while I was there in South Africa.

(and trust me on this.... if you saw the film of the girls at the School

Opening, you would understand why that is saying A LOT!)

Speaking of 45 years younger, Chris Tucker is both an INCREDIBLE

gentleman AND an incredible man. (THAT is yet Another essay!)

I look foreword to calling him friend for many years to come.

On New Years Eve I sat between Berry DeVorzon (google him if you don't

know that name!)

and Babyface.

Even Quincy Jones and Henry Louis Gates were there.

AND EVEN NELSON MANDELA SHOWED UP AT THE SCHOOL OPENING ON THE LAST DAY.

I WAS LIKE WOAH!!!!!

The best I can describe this experience is to say

that, the time I spent in South Africa with Oprah was

a PHENOMENALLY transformative,

EXTREMELY profound

EDUCATION and HEALING.

I choose those words with GREAT

care and intention.

Oprah Winfrey is NO JOKE!  I LITERALLY

I said LITERALLY

SAW a light around her.

I was inspired while watching her move

among people, Grounded, strong and AUTHENTIC!

As a matter of fact, I was taken back by her REALNESS.

(Not that I expected superficiality or anything, but I use the word

REALNESS in the way that we of the hip-hop generation use it.

She's SO real,

for-real,

I thought to myself, THAT is what you call grace under pressure.

but I digress…)

SO, imagine how powerful a person Oprah must be to change someone's LIFE

by simply having been in her space,

and I don't speak just for myself.

I heard over and over again from

EVERY SINGLE PERSON I SPOKE WITH,

at the parties, meals, at the airport

and even ON the airplane,

that they were PROFOUNDLY moved.

Moved by both Oprah

AND

by Oprah Winfrey's

Leadership Academy for Girls, class of 2012 and 2013.

They will heal the world with their minds, just the way Oprah does.

Over a 3-day period I wrote a song for "Oprah's Girls."

I played it for them and asked what they thought it should be called.

They named it BEAUTIFUL FLOWER.

(I call it BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT, POWERFUL, RESILLIANT ....... because

that's what they are… but maybe that title's too long.  LOL!)

After ALLLLLL the festivities,

a LIVELY and ACTIVE 5 days and 6 nights of safari, A big dinner in the

bush,

a New Years Eve celebration like None Other (YET ANOTHER ESSAY!)

and countless breakfasts and dinner conversations with

the most inspiring group of people I have EVER met.

It was refreshing to have a simple quiet moment with the girls.

So the morning of my flight home,

after everything was over,

I went to the school and played some songs

for them, including "Beautiful Flower"

After I sang "Beautiful Flower",

Oprah walked across the room to me and said with tears in her eyes,

"That was REALLY Beautiful,

REALLY beautiful."

We hugged,

and with a million things I wanted to do and say in that moment,

Out of respect for her time and space,

I said "Thank you"

and she said,

"I gotta go do CNN,

but REALLY,

that was BEAUTIFUL."

AND THAT! was the moment of connection I had prayed for before I even

boarded the plane to South Africa.

Now THAT was being touched by an Angel.

Of course, I still have lots of questions I'd like to

ask her, but her REAL Angel Network, her circle of

friends and employees, have answered many of those questions.

NOT BY "WHAT" they said about her,

But rather,

for WHAT, "WHO" THEY ARE, said about her.

It was the energy, meaning the sum total of

those peoples life force, that taught me about Oprah Winfrey's Power,

and

MY OWN.

Its the law of attraction.

Those people were there to show me that which I am.

In South Africa I saw what a true earth mother and world servant looks like.

I saw what ONE person is capable of.

I saw what I am Capable of.

I saw that ALL things are possible.

I saw the future,

I saw MY future.

Oprah showed me ALL of that,

without saying a word.

I saw it in Oprah's vision,

I saw it

In Oprah's Eyes.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill.

In the room of 200, he asked,

"Who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you

But first, let me do this.

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air.

Well, he replied, "What if I do this?"

And he dropped it on the ground

And started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.

"Now, who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson.

No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value.

It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives,

We are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt

By the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or
what will happen, you will never lose your value.

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased,

You are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you.

The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know,

But by WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE.

You are special- Don't EVER forget it."

If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to,

Or the hope that it can bring.

Count your blessings, not your problems.

"And remember: amateurs built the ark ..

Professionals built the Titanic.

If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.

Jah has kept me here for a reason. I survived because He has a plan for me. All my bad relationships, the addictions, the consequences, the bad credit, the repossessions, the death of my loved ones, the back stabbing from my friends, the negative thoughts, or the lack of support; I made it because I am blessed!

I release and let go of all past hurts, misunderstandings and grudges because I am abundantly blessed! I recognize them as the illusions they are, and sent from the enemy to kill my spirit, steal my joy, and destroy my faith;

For Jah is all there is. All else is a lie!

Be Encouraged, Be Inspired, Be Blessed and walk in victory!!!!!!!! The Will of Jah will never take you where the GRACE of JAH will not protect you.......
