Project: Observation of Behavior
.. ..
My
intent was to study a person’s general, displayed reactions during moments of
pressure and anxiety. I chose to observe my classmates behavior while they gave
an oral presentation in front of a classroom filled primarily with peers and
one authoritarian figure (The classes’ professor) at Austin Community College,
Pinnacle campus. I was not able to attain each speaker’s communication
apprehension before his or her presentation so I started with a baseline
presumption that everybody had a pre-existing anxiety to public speaking due to
the fact that most humans wish to conform and therefore not stand out. My logic
follows that public speaking is a form of being noticed & standing out
because you are forced to be the focus of attention in a group which is the
opposite intention of conformity therefore it is more acceptable for me to
assume that because of a any given person’s disposition to conform they are
likely to be fearful of public speaking, By assuming everybody was fearful of
public speaking I could not merely observe every displayed reactions alone, it
is important to notice those with low levels of communication apprehension and
observe what physical behavior they shared with the people who attain high
levels of apprehension so I could eliminate the behaviors they had in common as
not being related to fear, pressure, or anxiety. My project is only concerned
with the behaviors of the frightful or anxious speakers.
The
most noticeable thing, and the most common trait, of those with fear of public
speaking was the lack of eye contact they shared with their audience. I believe
the anxiety they feel is most conveyed through eye movement in the form of rapid
shifting. The highly apprehensive will move there eye’s quickly from paper, to
floor, to random points in the room that are usually above the eye level of a
sitting observer. It is important
to mention that they do still make eye contact with people but only sparsely,
usually every 4 – 8 shifts will result in contact with somebody but this
connection is severed after a period of one second or less and is not repeated
with the same audience member more than twice. While the fright was showed when
speaking to their peers, comfort was conveyed and sought through making
prolonged eye contact with the professor. For multiple occasions with multiple
people, eye contact was sustained with the professor for periods of up too ten
seconds and occasionally, but only rarely, for longer amounts of time (never
exceeding 20 seconds). The obviously most favored dodge shared by the frightful
was a pension to continuously stare at the floor or the paper they were reading
from, this usually resulted in a monotone presentation. A lack of emphasis was
also conveyed through most, they chose to do no more to make them self stand
out than was absolutely necessary. No voices were raised to make a point and no
arm flailing was used to drawl attention, those who were not holding their
paper chose to keep there arms at their sides or rested on the podium. A lack
of physical movement was noted in general, most chose to remain static with
feet firmly planted in a single location, none chose to move about through the
classroom or in front of it.
In
conclusion, I wasn’t surprised by my observations. I believe all actions shared by the highly apprehensive of
communication can be explained by what I would call a strategic but instinctive
downplay of their presence. The lack of eye contact with the audience is a way
to disconnect and dissociate with the realization that they hold the center of
attention. If you don’t connect with anybody then it is as if you have spoken
to nobody, which allows for evasion of embarrassment or anxiety from the
situation they are in. It’s the same principle as out of sight, out of mind. In
this case the audience is what is being put out of sight in order to put the
anxiety out of the mind of the speaker. The prolonged eye contact with the
professor can be explained by one or both of the following reasons: Either they
feel an unmatched comfort with this person or they try to trick themselves into
believing they are only there to present to this person and the audience is
merely there as unavoidable silent observers. By believing they are only presenting to the professor it
removes some of the anxiety from the situation by deeming the audiences
experience as free from judgment because the presenter is not there to speak to
them at all, in essence the audience might as well be in another room watching
the presentation on a television or monitor. While the speaker clearly knows
that either way they are being watched, but they have no care for the
observers’ entertainment and therefore have no care for their opinions of it.
The lack of physical movement in the presentations is another way for the
speaker to remain low-key in a situation that is dominated by their presence.
The lack of physical emphasis coupled with the lack of eye contact makes the
presentation bland or boring and more likely to be forgotten, quite likely not
the event in its entirety but the subject matter and/or the presenter will not
be favored in the audiences’ memory if they have made no significant impact. It
remind me of Jurassic Park and the Tyrannosaurus Rex, if you don’t move at all
then you don’t stand out and you essentially become an inanimate object only
recognized only through the projection of words or speech and after all this
the human speaker has all but transformed himself or herself into a stereo
speaker.
.. ..
....Ya, I mentioned Jurassic Park. lol. Grade: 95/100

I live in the dark so I urge you to see the light. Find happiness. - November 27, 2009
MONTREAL, Nov 27, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Insecure adolescents experience more intense pain in the form of frequent headaches, abdominal pain and joint pain, researchers in Canada found.
Dr. Isabelle Tremblay of the University of Montreal and Dr. Michael Sullivan, a psychology professor at McGill University, said these teens are also more likely to be depressed than peers with secure attachments.
"Although previous studies in adults found that an individual's security level was influenced by painful experiences, it was not clear why relationship security should be related to pain," Tremblay said in a statement.
"We found that adolescents with insecure relationships tend to be more 'alarmist' about their pain symptoms; they have a tendency to amplify the degree of threat or severity of their pain. This amplification leads to more intense pain and more severe depressive symptoms."
Some 382 students, in grades 8 to12, were recruited for the study and asked to fill out questionnaires on the frequency and intensity of their emotional and physical pain.
The study is published in the Journal of Pain.

I start this SUMMER, Jun. 1st till Aug. 8th.
2 Classes: TV Production (Basic, Multi-Camera Studio Production) Intermediate Algebra (Algebra 2 refresher-course, at one tme I was able to write the text books. I'll need this refresher for the Physics degree I HOPE to someday recieve:)
I'm doing the summer classes just for the head start & because I really love Audio & Video production..... almost as much as math & science. ha.
I really dont have any info about my Fall semester yet, I've been spending most of my time working on being set for the summer.... Its a lot of paper-work, online forms, & run-around.... plus suspense & anxiety.
I've got a bitch of a commute all the way to North Austin everyday, Braker Lame, Northridge, about a 1 hour drive.
I dont have much else to say except I already ball at video & audio, I dont really need much luck for grades but I am a somewhat absent-minded klutz at finding places so wish me luck on finding my class rooms lol
I TRULEY APPRECIATE ALL THE LOVE & SUPPORT I GET FROM FRIENDS. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Let me start with a slight Disclaimer: I have Zero college degrees, I have been unable to talk with a cosmetologist or physicist about this theory, I do not claim that my theory is ultimetly right nor do I believe it is unreasonable, and my sole qualification for stating this is the fact that I have an IQ of 150 (LUCKY ME!).
Secondly, If you do not know what dark matter is you can refer to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter
Or, read this Laymens explanation by Me: DARK MATTER: Dark Matter is supposedly the invisible force in the universe that keeps everything from attracting toward eachother & clumping at the center of the universe around the most massive object. Its suppose to be equal to gravity & thats why *BLANK* circles a more massive *BLANK* instead of being drawn inward or away.
FOR THE RECORD, DARK MATTER IS ONLY A THEORY & HAS BEEN BY NO MEANS BEEN PROVEN CORRECT OR EVEN PROVEN TO EXIST.
Now before I tell you my theory let me tell you the story that lead me to this universal conclusion; I was with some friends, one of whom was Christian Flores, & he was telling me a story about how he blew a smoke ringand as the ring moved away & expanded in diameter he slowly placed his hand in the center of the ring and then suddenly & very quicly moved his hand back toward him. The ring collapsed & moved back toward him. Now this by istelf is insignificant, & meant nothing to me at the time but later that night I was watching "The Universe" on The History Channel. (maybe that makes me a loser... maybe not, lets stay on topic) The subject of the show was The Big Bang & on there they momentarily talked about the universe before the Big Bang& as somebody else threory states: BEFORE THE THE BIG BANG THERE WERE 4 RINGS:: GRAVITY, SMALL NUCLEAR, LARGE NUCLEAR, & ELECTROMAGETIC FORCE.(If you've ever seen the movie "13 Ghosts" there is a machine at the end with all the rings of it circling around eachother, the four rings would have looks similar tho that. Sorry I dont know the name of this formtion, i should) Gravity was the first ring to break away a split second before all the others (I think Its possible that the break of the gravity ring caused the Big Bang itself, what cause this ring to break however is unknown) Once this ring broke it began to shoot out in all directions expanding both exponentialy & equally while moving faster than the speed of light.(the speed of light is 186,000 miles/second. Einstein did say nothing moves faster than the speed of light but I believe that because were talking about Gravity itself & not matter this speed might be possible but Ill save that that for my next theory)Now, the fact that it is Gravity itself expanding means its not hard to imagine that the Gravity Ring could explain the expansion of the universe,AND since its Gravity moving away from the center it must be this Gravity which perfectly counters the Effect gravity of all the object in the universe.
This is where the smoke-story comes into play, see when the hand moved it pulled the smoke... (now theres plenty of logical reasons why this happend & none of them related to my theory, instead ingore all of that & just focus on the fact that 2 unconnected forces can effect one another) ... ,now gravitry being "The Hand" & the universe being "The Smoke", as the gravity ring where to move outward it would exact a pull on the universe within its Diameter &there-fore creating the ever-expanding universe we know today.
My theary also fits into other popular theories, such as the one that says eventually (Billions of years down the road) the universe will stop expanding & suddenly collapse inward. This is because, as stated above, The Gravity Ring is moving faster than the speed of light & the universe is only expanding at a rate of 70.8 [km/sec]/Mpc [Mpc = MegaParSec, a unit for measuring distance to our nearest galaxy, which is 3.26 billion light years away] (give or take 1.6 (km/sec)/Mpc), meaning that the Gravitational Ring will eventually out-run its pull on the universe & cease its expansion (Much like the Hand will no longer pull the smoke once its gotten far enough away). Ounce this happen the Universe will collapse in on itself as already predicted.
Like this theory? give me kudos. Think im wrong? tell me why. Wanna theorize? Lets talk!
on a side note, I get the slight feeling Im forgetting something so I might add on to this theory in the future

FIRST OFF: THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL ADVICE FOR PEOPLE NEW TO EDTING. ITS SIMPLY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY & BASICALLY AMOUNTS TO JUST BEING MY OPINION. ITS YOUR CHOICE WHETHER OR NOT TO VALUE IT. DONT TALK TRASH CAUSE IM NOT SAYING THIS IS RIGHT / BEST WAY TO DO THINGS.
THANK YOU & I HOPE THIS HELPS
1) dont rush it. you cant rush perfection. the best advice i can give you is edit when you wanna edit, when feel inpsired.
2) think about it.
3) plan it out in steps: imagine your intro, then picture your tage, and finally your credits.
4) try out everything, find out what each button is & wat it does. its simple, just click it ; ) lol.
5) with Fx, dont be afraid to mess with'em cuz you can for a reason. and be sure to think twice about what you doing ok. its a debate between over-editing & not, whatever you prefer i suppose. but be smart about it, think.
6) transitions, dont go to nutz. keep it simple, overlap clips, dissolves, flashes, overlay, cross effect. and you can use fx kinda like transitions too, like in the beginin of the clip to start it, u know.
7) dont be random
8) synch with your song & pick a good song that in somewhat appropriate & you one can really get into. something you can feel. you know its a good song cuz ur just jammin & at the same time as you liten you can just see the montage playin out in your head.
again, it come back to you being inspired.
check out some of these for some ideas, there some of my favorite montages. & trust me, cuz IM ONE TOUGH CRITIC. i barely like watchin tages as it is. lol
