I crossed the mountains to get some peace and write the new album. Right? I didn't expect to like this side so much. It's really great here, and as much as I miss Seattle, the music I'm writing makes it clear I'm exactly where I'm suppose to be for now.
I've had the good fortune of crossing paths with http://www.myspace.com/horseandridermusic aka Jae who is recording and producing the cd, and I'm thrilled with the direction we are going.
I'll be back in Seattle here and there to play some shows until this is finished.
Can't wait. -Bee

Current mood:amused
Category: Music
It's been too long since I've actually said something here. I have been a lot more into writing in private.
So, I'm here, in Spokane, writing music for the next album. A lot of it. I have written plenty for two albums at this point, I just want it to be really right. So, I'm taking my time.
I wrote this a couple of days ago. As you hear, it's rough, you can hear my chair grumble as I move to get closer to the mic, I think at one point I knocked over a wine bottle. It's cool though, I like it that way.
I put it up here because, sometimes it's necessary to just DO things without thinking. I am a master at that. Besides, what's left to do but feel when the thinking is over? Exactly.
Zoe came over with a bottle of wine and graced us with some cello.
Parker came over and we had 2 more bottles (doing the math here?) and he who normally plays piano picked up the electric guitar and beat on it in a very lovely way. It was fun, hope you like it.

I had the pleasure of experiencing The Kin two nights ago at Tractor Tavern. It all just seems so right. The way I met them, the music they play, the show they put on, the fact that I experienced signs all night long that I was exactly where I was suppose to be.
It started like this.
My friend Jessica came to visit me at work, drink Bloody Marys, and just chill on the deck while I finished a frazzled day of waiting tables. When I was done, we went outside to smoke and my plan was to go home, walk the dog, and have a totally relaxing night...having to get up at 4am the next morning was all I could think of.
But no, Jessica had to talk to some guys walking down the street, who turned around and came back to talk to us, (which totally annoyed me, until I realized they were genuinely cool, and playing at the Tractor that night...where I'd played 2 nights prior). They gave us a cd, invited us to the show said goodbye. Super nice guys. I went home to do the plan. Listened to the album on the way. Turned around and came back to Ballard and stayed there until 2am watching The Kin, and wondering how music so beautiful doesn't just transcend all barriers btw. us, all of us, all the time, everywhere.
I do not come across music often, at all, that I reccomend to people, but The Kin got under my skin. The chord progressions, vocal melodies, and harmonies, depth of they lyrics, passion with which it's delivered is astonishing.
They are already something. Go to their myspace, they have millions of friends. They are doing something right, but there weren't a ton of people at the Tractor, so I didn't know. Their CD is beautiful. their live show left me speechless. Their drummer, Tabber Millard is a fucking bad ass. I just, I just don't get to experience tears at shows often enough. If you get a chance, see them.

Love to you.

Valentines, Paris, The Showbox...
I have to say, the last few months of shows has been really incredible for us...but Valentines, I guess it's just nice to be pleasantly suprised. We had so much fun with the friends who came out, met some new and wonderful people, and enjoyed the shit out of Velvet Drive and Bens Jazz Kit. Damn.
I leave on Monday for Paris. I'm so excited. I can't wait to see Nate's work (Feder Federici) in my top friends...he has been planning this art opening for years. It's going to be amazing. I will be playing my most fragile tunes, doing my best to compliment the the body of work he has chosen for the space.
Beyond that, we have plans to shoot a music video all over the city...I feel so lucky to have a week to take it all in. I want to wake up in the morning, have an americano (no, normally I don't drink coffee, but hey, in Paris)...buy some baguette, maybe some cheese and just walk. Snack on that all day until night time when we settle in somewhere to drink bottles of wine, and talk for hours and hours...brainstorming, throwing out insane ideas for our art, and feeling like we are understood, which for a moment in this life is a gift. It's pretty fun to be able to focus on art and music only. I will live this up.
When I return, we have the Showbox to look forward to! I will hit practices with the boys, and I will be so excited because a) I will have missed them so much and b) I cannot WAIT to play Showbox at the Market! This show is going to be amazing, and it's our first all ages. yea.
I am loving my life right now. Nothing could be better. Nothing. If one thing changes, then another would, and I like everything the way it is right now. -Bee

Check out a review of our Neumos show at www.nwmusicblog.com/
I was certinaly struck by a band called C-Leb and A-Bro last Friday night at Neumos. A sound check that literally floored me had me thinking about their upcoming slot DURING my performance earlier in the night. I am horrible at describing music, always have been, but I WANT to describe C-Leb and A-Bro, and have been for the past four days. A brief version would be "Sexy, dirty, crazy driving overwhelming sound that draws u in and slaps u in the face with a 'just poppy enough' chorus to give you chills and satisfy."
Check them out, and join me in my new found fan status. www.myspace.com/ceeleb
Anyway, they said they liked us too.

oooh oooh more of my trip. From the troughs to the hills...emotion not following suit, let me just say, what an amazing experience. Everyone should get over there if they have any desire at all. Floating in the Dead Sea Hiding, apparently Sand Duning---the Seven Pillars of Wisdom close by...........PILLARS Can one fall in love with a child? So precious Camels don't spit...where does that come from? Bite yes, spit? Trying desperately to like this man... NO ONE want's to ride in the back seat of the skeletal version of a car smaller than 'smart' while at midnight speeds in a city of 18-25 million...ah, Cairo Oh the joy of laughing with all of onesself...ahem... Indoor skiing a the mall in Dubai...woah 'parrently there's a 2 year wait for the rest of the world for a crane...Dubai's Sheikh must have had a moment of inspiration I recently read a comic that made me take pause...it's was simple, just three frames, and it said "If the only prayer you say in your life"..........."Is 'Thank You'"..........."That will suffice." Amen.

I've can't even begin to describe the learning...woah. I began in Israel, spent a bit of time learning about what I THOUGHT I knew from all my days in Sunday school. To enter a land where religion dominates is, well, slightly odd...not in the ways one may think, however. It's refreshing. To have a moral standard, rules by which we are obligated to comply...something that no other trip has revealed. To have ethics be the base of a society...a place where three religions suffer, thrive, fight, and get along in the most delicate balance. Balance only being achieved by, itself, experiencing the swing of the pendulem. I can't spell. aaaaaaaannnnnnyway...what a fucking trip. Excuse me. Seriously though.
So, from Israel to Jordan to Israel to Egypt to Dubai...no border crossing being a small deal either, this has been an amazing journey. My favorite part of the trip would be due to the relationship with the bedowins in the Sinai Desert. To have nothing, and yet, have everything you could ever need...it was unbelievable. Now, we are, in sharp contrast, staying in Burj Al Arab. I've never in my life had a glass of this life...and I now understand why. It's concentrate. haha.
I'm so blessed to be able to experience these things. This world is so so so so so big. It's never too late to start over. If you want something fucking grab it...excuse me again, but life is too short to be anywhere but where you want to be. I'm coming home, I'm happy to be coming home, but I will be back to the desert, of that I am certain. To find a place where one can actually FEEL God? Priceless.
