The Yellers—who alternate between the modifiers “Old” and “Auld”—are newbies by comparison, having formed in 2003. But their deft Americana is at least four decades old, recalling the boogie of Canned Heat, the sweet melodicism of the Band and, in its nimble guitar work, the Grateful Dead. Matthew Singer, Willamette Week, 2009

The Old Yellers [American Roots Music] are something to behold.  This band isn't just old timey, laid back, sweet country sounds of yesterday.  No Sir!  They are also foot stompin, rabble rousing, hootin and hollerin good time music of here and now.  They have it all, great harmonies, tender ballads, and nothin but good times.  You just get yourself down to catch them if you can.
Burlingame Review, May 2007.

The Old Yellers [AMERICANA] have several things going for them.  Singer/Guitarist Michael Berly who's deep, expressive voice and gregarious presence on and offstage draws talented players and appreciative audiences alike.  Musicians like Matt Voth and Darin Joye, who make music come to life in a way that is palpable to everyone who attends their impressive live shows.  And nowadays, if all else fails, Berly has his acupuncture practice to fall back on in case all of the above come to naught, which is unlikely.   Don't miss this band.
Jeff Rosenberg, Willamette Week, June 2008.

PORTLAND, OR Friday, March 17 at venues across the kingdom, McMenamins will offer live music, Irish dancing, and even a bagpiper or two in celebration of St. Patricks Day. Bring the kids, friends, and family and raise a rousing cheer for ol Paddy with our seasonal Irish Stout, handcrafted using green, eco-friendly energy.  Again this year, back by popular demand, The Old Yellers grace the stage mixing Irish music, Americana, great ballads, and rock and roll with original songwriting.  This band of talented musicians puts on one heck of a live show every time they hit the stage.  If last years show is any indication of what is to come, prepare for all manner of hullabaloo and jubilee. McMenamins Press Release, March 2008.

A roots rock band from Portland, Oregon, The Old Yellers are a talented group of musicians/songwriters that combine the stomp of a backwoods hoedown, whiskey infused honky tonk, high-energy rock and roll, and sweet ballads with solid songwriting.  Their large repertoire of original music fits in perfectly with tried and true traditional songs and all the classics.
Curtis Waterbury, CitySearch, October 2005.

The Old Yellers have earned a solid reputation and represent what is great about live music. Solid vocals and harmonies, good songwriting, and diverse instrumentation gets the room up dancing, segues to fine ballads, rocks, rolls, jigs, reels, and always homes back to the honky tonk. This band simply rocks. This Americana roots rock is down-home goodness at its finest.

Musicians like Matt Voth and Darin Joye, who make music come to life in a way that is palpable to everyone who attends their impressive live shows. Great taste in band names switching from the lovable and now defunct Cornbred to a tighter, tastier ensemble known as The Old Yellers. And nowadays, if all else fails, Berly has his acupuncture practice to fall back on in case all of the above come to naught, which is unlikely. Don't miss this band.

Another amazing weather day in dublin, we have seen some great days since we have arrived. back in dublin. did a nice show at the cherry tree, a new venue in walkinstown south dublin, a great listening room with a dark music quality. very cool. played with jezzebelle and Al O' Donnel, both awesome, especially Al, who is a true musical inspiration. we can not wait to hear his upcoming cd, his first in something like 20 years, it is gonna be a great great record. Took saturday off for a good ole fashion BBQ in the heart of clontarf, north dublin, went to hear our friends the Rough Deal String band, and then a night off and out with friends. Played the next day in the stunningly beautiful wicklow mountains at Lynaghms of Laragh. A favorite spot to be sure. Had a mad packed jamming gig with sound provided by our friend Colm from Ulysses in Bray. Ended up playin till 1am and then going home with Ciaran Brennen from Clannad and having a grand time playin music till the wee hours of the morning with him and some friends. We played the next night in dublin at the cobblestone, a great room in a great music venue. Our last night of playing music for a bit, hard to play a last show, but all in all a very good night. Then suddenly it was time to leave and after a final day of seeing dublin, selling our guitar, meeting some great music industry folks, hearing that our new friend ciaran had won the irish national life time achievement award, goin with our good great friends to a fantastic dinner and pints all over dublin, we prepare to return back to portland, a bubble of hope in the homeland of usa, now offically titled by the neocons, THE HOMELAND. which is scary and downright one step from the edge, and altho we are ready to just stay, we go in order, we might just be able to return. let you know how it goes from there...

after a run of 4 gigs, from dublin with al o donnell, which was amazing beyond words, his music was inspiring.

to wexford, and lobster dinners, to wicklow town and the 2nd song bar brawl that cleared the place out with flying chairs, glasses, pints, people. and everything but the band basically, what a night, some descirbed as legendary.

now we are in amsterdam, soothing our heads so to speak, and we are about to head back to the emerald isle for a bit more.

hope you are all doing as well as we are.
