Current mood:  blissful
Category: Friends
We had a really good rehearsal tonight.  There was some minor arguing
towards the beginning, but once we got to work we got a lot done.

I'm really lucky to be working with such great musicians.

Al
is always working on music.  He owns a studio, is usually quick to
answer the phone or call back, and knows plenty about chords and keys
and everything that should matter to a guitar player.  He's handy with
a saw, drill, hammer, knife, and any other tool, and is always good at
finishing projects.  He's sometimes reluctant to begin a complicated
project, but once he's started, he at least gets a good workable rough
draft out the door.  He's got a hilarious vocabulary of catch phrases
that I have happily ripped off.  "Let's roll up to the studio and
mother on it.  Hell yeah, that riff is POWERful!"

Khanrad is
just that.  Fucking rad.  He rocks the tuba like no other, and almost
always has a positive attitude and solid organized approach to solving
small problems and details.  He's completely conversant in music and in
business, and is always ahead of the game and ready to rock.  His
girlfriend Carly is super cool, too, runs the merch booth BRILLIANTLY,
and his parents have pretty much supplied us with half of our transport
for the last few months.  Plus he's fucking hilarious.

Aaron
is one of the 5 most knowledgeable musicians I have ever worked with.
I say 5 because there are at least four others that are beyond my
ability, and therefore not fair for me to judge entirely.  He's an
absolute wizard on the sound board, has probably forgotten more about
music than most people ever learn and has almost perfect tone and
intonation on a constant basis.  He's a team player, super friendly,
and a total character.  I only wish we could get him more money more
often, so we could have more of him, since he is quite popular with so
many bands and students and such.

Hallison (sp?) is totally
hilarious.  He's genuinely good hearted, with a twisted evil mind that
always has something irreverant and uproarious to mention.  He's super
solid on tempo, almost always totally on time, and generally a joy to
be around.  Having such a diverse collection of percussion added to the
mix is fucking rad, and I can't wait to incorporate more and more of
his random skills into new music and across new genres.

Donald
Trumpet is a consumate performer.  He brings an energy and
schizophrenia to every show he plays in.  He's ludicrously good at
mercy, can drink his weight with almost anyone, almost always has a
smile, and brings a sense of fun everywhere he goes.  He's a gifted
salesman who could sell salt water to a mermaid, and has the ability to
work his way into any deal like a pro business man that most bands
don't get to work with.  He's good at graphic design, knows computers,
and also has two great siblings that I thoroughly enjoy seeing
everytime they show up.

Mikey is super solid.  He's down to make
it work through all obstacles, is always super reliable, handles half
the business right off the bat, and has absolutely no problem holding
almost any bass line down through sheer methodical and relentless
practice.  He's totally generous, always has the necessary supplies,
and always gets the job done.  He's secretly super popular, and totally
down to earth.  He always has a surprising interest in random stuff and
music that most people have never heard of, and always has an
interesting fact or idea related to that that nobody else has.  His
folks are also totally friggin rad.

Devin is possibly as well
educated in music as Aaron or myself, or possibly even more.  He has
flawless tone on every note, and never plays too far out of the box,
locking the whole group in together with solidity.  He fucking ROCKS on
the baritone sax, and the bari-sax is fucking RAD.  Like Aaron, I wish
we could buy him away from the rest of the world outright, but when he
can show up, he's SUPER reliable, always on time, always has a good
attitude, and always helps set up and tear down.  And he's arguably the
funniest guy in the band, which is saying a LOT considering the band
has myself, JP, Mikey, Al, Aaron, Don, Khanrad, Hallison, and Smoothini
in it, and literally every one of those guys has an amazing sense of
humor.

Smoothini is fucking rad.  I'm lucky to have got to see
him perform his magic and comedy AT ALL, much less to get to work with
the guy.  He's so ridiculously smooth with the crowd, with people, and
with cards that nobody trusts him automatically, even though he's
totally down to earth, friendly, and good-natured.  Plus his mind is
literally like a fucking library.  I wish I had that data storage
retrieval in my head!  If you haven't run into smooth at a bar
somewhere in North County, you are probably a Mormon.

Lastly,
I'm stoked that I've gotten to work the last SIX YEARS with JP.  He's a
creative guy, always down to try new things, and tackle new frontiers,
places, and genres of music.  He's a big part of the success I've
enjoyed as a musician, a reliable guy with a positive attitude, and a
natural communicator with tons of friends and fans all over the west
coast.  Not to mention, he positively DESTROYS the fucking drums every
night (as long as there's a decent crowd).  I'm really glad and happy
that he's been my team mate and homie since that first show back in
2003, at Zip and Zack's.  We've had tons of other coworkers, half the
places we've played have since gone out of business or sold, but we're
still rocking it together, pumping the crowd, playing the music of
humanity's spirit, and giving a big FUCK YOU to the corporations, the
police, and the lying media that works for them.

People ask me all the time, "How would you describe the LeperKhanz music?"

I
tell them the truth:  WE PLAY EVERYTHING.  We play rock, irish music,
disco, heavy metal, classical, funk, bluegrass, reggae, ska, techno,
country, blues, jazz, cumbia, tejano, polka.....  We play our hearts
out every night for people all over the planet, we do it out of love
for the fans, the music, our friends, families, and all living things.

When
the CIA or the media corporations inevitably kill me because I'm
calling them on their bullshit, I hope these great guys keep rocking
until they are old and gray, and I hope they keep the spirit of love
and violence against tyranny that we've had since the beginning, that
is a spiritual release for every person at every show, and that is so
important and missing in the music industry today.

Much love to my band, much love to the fans, and much love to all living things, from the aardvark to the zygote.

rhY

PS We have an epic tour lined up for this Paddy's Day.  If you have friends or family anywhere near any part of the west coast from San Diego to Portland, you'd better tell them to get ready and definitely make it to the show!!!

The LeperKhanz are still going strong, rocking shows, writing new material, hustling T-Shirts and CDs, and gearing up for an EPIC St. Patrick'z Day Tour, as we turn 6 and get ready for first grade!

That said, we still have NO representation, either for booking, or for recording, or any kind of respect from TV, movies, or radio.  I mean nothing.  The media just keeps playing the same cookie cutter copycat crap they've BEEN playing since forever.  The Jonas Brothers, Brittney's triumphant return: YOU'VE GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!

We still have a couple holes in our Paddy'z day tour, and would LOVE some help filling them.

Gigs that still need filling for this tour:
San Francisco: March 12
Eureka, Arcata, or Sacramento: March 15
Ashland, Medford, or Grants Pass: March 16

The rest of the Paddy'z tour is booked and in stone, and is going to be epic:

March 11: Fishlips in Bakersfield
March 13 & 14: Gallagher'z Irish pub in Dublin
March 17: Club Platinum in Corvallis, Oregon
March 20: Miramonte Winery in Temecula
March 21: Churchill'z Irish Pub in San Marcos

If you are a brave soul, take the week off and come with us!  It's going to be an epic good time!!!!

If you know ANYONE on the radio, on TV, or in the movies, PLEASE burn them a CD, or show them our YouTube, or SOMETHING.  FUCKING CORPORATIONS!!!!!!

rhY

PS We have gotten a LOT of fan requests to play "The Auld Dubliner" or "Killarney's" in Riverside.  I don't believe either location will hire or pay us.  You may take it up with them!  Thanks, and keep coming to the shows and rocking!  We'll be there, sweatin' and bleedin' and FUCKING ROCKING FOR YOU!!!!

PPS The views expressed above may not fully represent the views of the entire band.  I'm the insomniac running the MySpace at the moment.

PPPS I just wanted to keep you guys excited about the next album whenever we find the $30k to record it.  The potential track list for that album, should a magic $30k show up might include:

PowerLine
Dirty Old Town
The Kumbia Del Sol
Black Velvet Band
The Red Apple
Whiskey, You're the Devil
Sleep Tight
The Empty House
The Structure Breaks Down
Are You Willing
The Hills of Khan0Mara
Human Greed
Jump at the Sun

I think we can all agree that would be a kick ass album and make whoever lent us $30k a lot of money, should a label choose to do so.

Hey, y'all. This is the LeperKhanz wantin' to send y'all a new news item special to brighten yo' evah lovin' dayz in these times of adversity and impending depression.

We hope most of you still have houses to live in, your health, your family, and your happiness. Much Love to everyone.

I rearranged our top 9 YouTube videos to represent what I feel to be the best 9 live videos we have, both according to popularity, and to explore the diversity of the show, since we play these songs pretty much every night at the show (Thanks again to Mike and Al for so quickly picking up so much material!).

http://www. youtube. com/user/crhylove

Please feel free to encourage as many people as you can to check out those videos, but for god sakes, please remind them to turn the volume up, as getting good audio on a live video is hard enough when people have their volume on half on their tiny computer speakers. I do not recommend listening on a laptop without head phones for instance, and honestly, I recommend you have a subwoofer for your computer speakers. It really helps, and is much cheaper than buying a home stereo ANYTHING.

Further, as we continue to work on the new album, we invite you to come and check out our latest shows. This weekend we have a show at Patrick's in Poway, on Friday, and on Saturday at what USED to be Tom Giblin's in Carlsbad. If last week's show was any indication, these next two shows should be two of our most epic yet. Those of you who were in Carlsbad LAST Friday know what I'm talking about. You've been warned.

In other news, feel free to check out the pix of our new LeperKhanz skateboards, which are available at every show, and we might also have new shirts this week, and yes, stickers and the new CD are coming, though, the stickers will probably be WAY ahead of the new CD. We may release a single first.
Let us know your thoughts people!

We are doing a Riverside County Tour in late November, we have not forgotten about the rest of the world, and we love you all, so mark your calendars!

In the meantime, if you, or anyone you know has ever had a good time at the show, feel free to post one of these videos to all of your friends, email them, and then feel free to send the letter at the bottom to any record company, record executive, friend, or family member who might know someone who might be interested. These are tough economic times, but if we can blow up anyway, we'd love to reinvest in significant ways in the future by giving all of our old friends and fans good, high paying jobs.
To the bus, to the show, and to Conan O'Brien!

rhY (not all of my views are completely endorsed by all of the LeperKhanz).

PS We are actively working on bulking up the hornline further, and may even have Tuba again soon. If you have all missed it as much as I have, then I'm sorry, and please know we are trying to bring it to every show. Also you might want to shout out to Devin (a good friend of Don and Aaron's) who is slated to start coming to shows soon. We are still looking for a couple of good employees, too, though with budget constraints you may have to intern for at least one show. In particular we are looking for a bus driver who wants to be safe, sober, and who might know a thing or two about mechanical issues, navigation, safety, and legal driving precautions. Everyone can give a big shout out to janelle though, too, who is our new merch person, and should be there to help you get the gear you want this weekend.

PPS If you're not gonna come to the show, if you're not gonna come rep a shirt or a skateboard, or if you wish you could and are just too broke or far away to make it happen right now, at least go to our youtube, watch a video, and forward it to a friend. It will benefit you, and it will benefit us, and it will probably benefit your other friend.
Much LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEE! Times are hard enough as they is!!!

Letter to potential record executives, tour managers, labels, production companies, and legal counsel:
__________________________________________________________

We have the material to do just about anything. We even have most of the equipment (PA, Tour Bus, Instruments, fans, bodies). We need some dynamite management, and some good promotions. Let us know if you are interested in finding us some of that.

http://www. youtube. com/user/crhylove

Our most requested songs are "PowerLine" and "Black Velvet Band". I'm not sure I always agree with the crowd, but I try to mostly.

We have been hesitant to post ALL of our original material, but we are actively working on a full new album right now. Do you know licensing well, or have contacts that can handle that? Thanks in advance. We are diligent and reliable.

So A LOT of people have been asking me, "What is up with the LeperKhanz?".

This is just a blanket update on what is going on, what our plans are, and how soon you will be able to see another show.

We've been a VERY hard working, touring act now for over 5 years. We've met a lot of great people and had a lot of success, and made a decent living doing it.

Unfortunately, the music industry is still very much geared towards glam teen bands that play music that *i* personally find pretty fucking horrible. As a result, bands like us that try to accomplish something bigger, better, or deeper often get pretty solidly ignored by record labels and companies. This is a double edged sword. Without record company or label sponsorship, recording an album can be very expensive and hard. However, without a record label we are also free to pursue whatever musical and political ideas we want. I'm not really sure how far *i* would be willing to compromise over politics or music with a label, but we are in the semi-fortunate position of not having been asked to be on a label, so I guess that is an internal debate we have been lucky enough to avoid so far.

That being said, if a label did step in and help us record our originals that we are planning on recording, they would stand to make a LOT of money. Probably. I think the originals we have planned for the next album are pretty significant. So, if you know a record label person with an open mind, feel free to let them know we are shopping.

JP and I have had extensive conversations about what the next plan is, and basically, we are aiming squarely for a radio hit. Those of you who have been to the show, and heard "Are You Willing" will know which one we think has some of the best potential. To that end we have secured a working partnership with both Aaron Saxophone, and Donald Trumpet. We are obviously going to need bass AND guitar, and I'm excited about working with Al again, and maybe at some point for some things Colin, too, but for the purposes of recording, I might as well just record most of the guitar myself, since it is pretty damned easy stuff we need for "Are You Willing" anyway. As far as bass goes, we were very happy to work with Mike before we left, and may get together with him again, and JP also has a couple of other friends that might sit in here or there, as do I. Probably one per month, and only at larger venues like the Belly Up, the Coachhouse or the Galaxy up in LA. We've played a lot of places like that before, and from now on we are going to have perfect sound at every show, through a built in house PA that is designed specifically for our sound.

Those of you who enjoyed seeing us in the pubs, well, JP and I (and probably some other musician friends) probably will STILL be playing the pubs every now and again, and probably playing LeperKhanz material as well, but it's all going to be very relaxed and not OFFICIAL LeperKhanz dates. Those dates will be posted as soon as we have some.

Thank you for all the support, and start getting excited for the next album, which we are definitely going to begin working on this week.

Much Love,
rhY

What's up! Hope you are having a great Day/Week/Month/Year! Nino offers many apologies to anyone in or out of the band that I have may disappointed. There is so much detail I can get into right now only from one's perspective that so many of you could agree on. However, my intent is not to point fingers or call out names on why I did not show. Many of you got to chat with me in the past time and might know what's up. Nino's motto when it comes to Business is: if you can't take the heat get the FUCK out the kitchen.
I found out after all this time spent, SACRIFICE SACRIFICE SACRIFICE is a MUST!. Who's in shooting for the big picture?.

Reasons why Nino (one) is on Hiatus from LeperKhanz:

1. Who's telling you I quit? YOU SHOULD SMACK THERE FACCCCCCCCCEEEEEE!
2. The Bleeding Irish is on tour Rhy's gone, medium rare please!. Big up's to Don Trumpet for making that happen, sorry about the Rudes.
2. I am not Irish, It took me this long to find out LOL. I enjoy being in this group. Just not all time, you hang with your friends 3-4 times a week and paint a perfect picture. MOVE!
3. Original Music, not the priority. Much Love for songs like Powerline , Structure, Are U Willing, Empty House, Whiskey Your The Devil, JUMP @ THE MOTHER FUCKING SUN!!! WOO HOOOOOOO!! etc. A peace of me are in these songs.

There's a fork in the road with ONE saying look it's there! TWO saying no IT'S OVER THERE! and another ONE saying is there a Middle road??? Shut The Fuck up Donnie!

I am not a bad guy, we all have goals in life. REACH FOR IT!

Regardless of the out come beware of my young Frankenstein!!!

Best wishes for all you Nino fans that do not want me, not to be in The LeperKhanz (Rhy's Cadillac) and for all the years of Support! you know who you are! Let the Sun Shine! let it SHINE!!!!

I love you,

-THEE INFAMOUS NINO

Yes, the rumors are true, Colin is leaving The LeperKhanz. He is still our good friend, and will be playing a few more shows until the end of January. The Khanz are moving along, and have started working with Al Padilla as the new guitarist.

Welcome to the new website! The LeperKhanz would like to thank everybody that came out to support us at the Canes show.

The LeperKhanz are already booked for St. Patrick's day 2008. They are scheduled to play on the main stage at 3:00 pm in Dublin, California. Other Bay Area tour dates are in the works.

For all of you in the Khanz Army disappointed by our lack of local shows, the band has been working diligently behind closed doors on a new album. There is still no release date set, but as there is more information, you can read about it right here.
