1. How long have you been djing and what inspired you to start?
Ive officially been on air as a DJ for almost two years but I have always wanted to be a disk jockey.Listening to the radio when I was younger was something I did all the time. Before school, sneaking in a walkman during school and attempting to do homework after school I always was listening to the radio.
2. What do you think makes a good DJ?
Its all in your personality.Dont try to be something you are not because your audience can see right through it.Be relaxed and pay attention to the people.Interact with each and every one of your listeners and treat them as if they were a best friend from High School
3. With the qualities stated in Question 2, who do you think is a good DJ?
Renel in the Mornings on 98.1 KISS FM
Big Von on 106 KMEL
The Dogg House
Sway & King Tech from The World Famous Wake Up Show and of course . . .
The King HOWARD STERN!!!
4. What's the most memorable experience in your DJ career?
The most memorable thing for me so far has been two things actually. One most recently was getting the chance to interview Nas just about a week ago while he was on promo for the release of his album. He is a ICON and a legend in this game and was a real cool humble dude. The other one was going down to L.A. to do a radio junket for the Idlewild movie.I was able to interview the whole cast including Terrence Howard,Paula Patton and of course Outkast.Outkast is one of my favorite Hip Hop groups of all time and they were by far two of the most entertaining and humble dudes I have ever met
5. What advice do you give to new djs that are pursuing a successful career like yours that you wish you had received when starting out?
Keep your nose clean.Stay out of all the BS that comes in and out of radio.Just focus on yourself and dont look around to see what other people are doing.Remain humble and always push yourself to the best of your availabilities.
6. What are you currently working on?
Currently working on my show on KMEL which is called "The Hot Box".Myself and my DJ Dj Amen put it down every Friday night from 2am-4am on 106 KMEL.We also throw a concert series here in The Bay Area called Super Hyphy. We have had acts such as E-40,San Quinn,Keak Da Sneak,Mistah FAB,The Team,Dem Hoodstarz,Big Rich,Bailey,B Legit,Turf Talk,The Federation and many others. We do them about once a month and there is always a BIG turnout.Im currently also working on a bunch of mixtapes that will be released in 2007.The follow up to Ya Boy's - Future Of The Franchise mixtape is one of my top priorities for 07.
7.When can they see you live? What clubs coming up?
Things vary from week to week and month to month.Definitely check out the Super Hyphy Concert series and for all that info just keep checking out my myspace for all the clubs, concerts & parties that Ill be at.
8. Tell us about your local music scene. Who are the top local artists?
Im fortunate enough to be in a real hot area for music right now. With the launch of the Hyphy Movement happening right here in my back yard it makes it easy to be proud of all of our local artists.E-40 hands down is the Ambassador and is responsible for pushing us into the mainstream.San Quinn is a legend and is hands down the KING of San Francisco.Keak Da Sneak is running Oakland and the bay area. There is alot of other artists making noise and we have more then just Hyphy/Rap music.J Valentine is a extremely talented song writer and R&B artist who just signed a deal with J Records.
9. What is a song that you hate to love ? (guilty pleasure)
Hmmmmm thats a tough one...Prolly . . .
Diddy feat.Keyshia Cole - Last Night
Hes definitely someone I look up to as for as entrepreneurship but when it comes to rapping..."Quit That...Quit That"
10. As a street marketing professional on the promotion side of the music industry, what suggestions do you have for independent or new artists in creating a buzz for themselves? And how can they get to you?
You have to own your own area.If people in your own hood and city dont know who you are then you have NO chance.Go out and market yourself locally to those around you and gradually branch out.Oh yeah another thing...Just because I play your record on the radio doesnt mean you have achieved all there is.KEEP WORKING!!! The easiest way to get in contact with me is on myspace.DAMN THAT SHIT IS ADDICTING!!!
11. What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome?
The hardest thing for me was prolly just gaining the acceptance of my peers.Im a white boy doing hip hop radio in the 4th largest market in the country.Go figure! LOL!!!
12. Who were your influences growing up?
The Dogg House
Rick Chase
Sway & King Tech
Chuy Gomez
Renel
Franzen & Trace Dogg
13. Who would you like to share the stage with? Who have you shared the stage with?
Howard Stern would be the ultimate.I mean come on it doesnt get any bigger then Howard Stern. He has been in this business for a long time and has mastered the craft.
I was fortunate enough to be in the presence when Sway & King Tech came back to The Bay Area to do The Wake Up Show live on air in our KMEL studio.Watching them work was something I will never forget.

15. What else do you do besides DJ? And what are your typical working hours?
Besides doing the radio thing.I do promotions, throw concerts, host clubs and parties, work for a couple independent record labels(Done Deal Ent & Street Cred Music Group) and I just started working on production.
16. What has your experience on MySpace been like so far? How did you first heard of MySpace? Is there anyone or group of people that you would like to re-connect with? If so, who?
Man! Its been amazing.MySpace is a great tool to promote and get your name and face out there. It makes it alot easier to talk with people that in most cases you would never get a chance to.I remember first hearing about it like 3 years ago when people were on the Friendster hype. One of my good friends girl friend told me that myspace was way better and allowed you to do way more.Once I checked it out it was a wrap. There hasnt been a day in 3 years that I havent logged on atleast once.Even on vacation or in other countries Im on it either through my lap top or my sidekick. As far as people Id like to connect with I would have to say just child hood friends!
