Band Member: reSEARCH (Poetic Chaos)
Location: Harriman, TN while DJ Frantic is from Miami, Florida.
Together Since: Early 2006. ShadowFacts formed around 2004, and Poetic Chaos is a love child birthed out of our ShadowFacts union.
Discography: "Life In High-Def, Wisdom In Lo-Fi" EP. "Steez Of Change" coming soon! "ShadowFacts - Emerge" releasing VERY soon. "Vision1 - Trials & Thorns" is done, and will be releasing this summer as well.
Influences: All the beautiful old school hip-hop growing up influenced me the most. Run DMC, Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, even my crew ShadowFacts definitely influence me nowadays. Waking up in the middle of the night broke and hungry, has definitely influenced me. Being screwed over at least once a week, for the last 10 years of my life, has definitely influenced me.
How Did Poetic Chaos get together? DJ Frantic and I were the two more ’laid back’ members of ShadowFacts. So we were usually chillin’ while Obstacle and Details were working. Plus, we like a lot of the same music, and strange styles, so we decided we should attempt to make something beautiful happen. He does all the production/beats, and I run my mouth.
Have you got to play with any cool bands? Yeah, we’ve done shows with Mars ILL, Listener, Kaboose, Lojique, Surreal, and lots of other dope obscure hip-hop groups that you’ve never heard of. We just recently did a show at Java in the Old City with the HR Department. Much love to all of those guys, for coming correctly, and blessing East Tennessee with authentic hip-hop. Check out that "New School Suspension, Vol. 2" by the Fluid Engineerz coming out soon!
What do you think of the music business in general? It’s a shady business, run by lots of rats with the almighty cheese. It takes money to make money, but it’s crazy that payola is still in operation, even locally here in Knoxville. It’s disheartening to turn on the radio, or MTV, and hear all the garbage that’s being force fed to the listeners. If the public would stand up, and demand better, maybe things could change? Until then, I’ll only stay tuned to shows like they have here in Knoxville at WUTK 90.3 on Saturday nights at 9:00 p.m. called the "Edutainment Hip-Hop Show." Check that out for some incredibly fresh music.
What is the hardest thing about being in Poetic Chaos? The distance. It’s tough because DJ Frantic resides in beautiful Miami, Florida. I’m trapped in Harriman, so it makes it hard to get together and exercise our creative forces. It also makes it more difficult to do shows together, obviously.
What is the coolest thing? The distance. If he were any closer, he would be eating all of my food. Nah, the coolest thing would have to be the artistic creativity. DJ Frantic is an incredible producer, and he has dropped some really abstract beats on my desk, so it’s cool to really challenge each other within the work we’ve done.
What are you goals? What do you want to accomplish this year? World domination. I think our goal for taking over the world is set for somewhere around 2008. So we’ve got a little time. In the meantime, hopefully we will finish and release our full length album "Steez Of Change." We’ve also got our ShadowFacts album "Emerge" that is inches from being released. I’m also in a duo with an incredible MC named Details called "Vision1." We have our album entitled ’Trials & Thorns’ that is finished, and waiting patiently in line to be released. Somewhere in the middle of all of THAT insanity, I hope to finish my solo album too. I’m also in a new crew on "End Of Earth Records" called "Drop Sci Giants." We’re just beginning work on our first project as well. There’s got to be some sort of art to the world of hustling, right? Also, check out a local project we’re doing called "Can’t Ban The Graf." It should be in all of the local spots, (Cat’s/Disc Exchange) alongside the Poetic Chaos EP.
What (or why, right?) should we listen to you? "This is Mario Savio movement type of speech - Fight Club" Hip-hop is so much more than just MINDless BANTeR. In my opinion, real hip-hop isn’t going to brag to you about what size my rims are, or how fly my new gear is. When hip-hop captivated my attention, it was with songs that intrigued me with authentic lyricism. Songs such as "Fight The Power" by Public Enemy, that actually caused people to take action. If there ever comes a day, that I feel like I have nothing left to say to the world, then I’ll stop doing hip-hop. I’m just one revolutionary/visioneer who sees that our world could be better. My music is my attempt at speaking hope into a very hopeless world. Everyone knows the problems, but there aren’t enough answers. Hopefully when you take time to listen, you’ll find that I’ve ’been there’ and found the answers for myself. I pour my heart into every verse I write. So feel free to take a piece of me with you, right through each of your problems and struggles. If I can help one person make it through, then all the lonely nights I’ve spent gagging over Ramen Noodles was worth it.
Last but not least, What is behind the name of your band? It’s something I came up with long before I met DJ Frantic. It’s how I’ve always felt about my life. Everything seems like it’s out of control, until the end of the day, when I reflect on how beautifully everything seems to always work out. I’ve always thought "Poetic Chaos" would be a dope name for a band. So when DJ Frantic and I united, it pretty much defined us as artists. He’s a pretty chaotic individual as well. I started out writing poems, and hip-hop is essentially poetry. So there you have it.
