I figured that I would show off my newest setup on the web. I did post these each individually a while back, but now I have made sure that they have an actual home on the web. There is a news item on the Vexations blog about this subject.
The series consists of four stories--very short stories. Each one is written in the second person and sits next to an image depicting the season. Autumn, Winter, Springtime, and Summer. The stories are a cycle, they have no beginning and no end, but if read in the order of the seasons tell an entire narrative. The beautiful artwork is painted by Sanjana Baijnath; the text written by Kyt Dotson. One of the images has even become famous, and a print is available for those who want to buy them: Vex Harrow Autumn. It was a great deal of fun to create, the artwork is gorgeous; if you haven't read it before go check it out now. Mill Avenue Vexations Seasons.

Mill Avenue Vexations Volume 4 has gotten a review on a goth webzine. Blogged also today on the Vexations blog. Volume 4 is full of portents and strangeness foretelling the doom coming to Phoenix. Things have been going down that are a little more on the eerie side, the drought continues, and the heat is still rising. Vex is still trying to pin down clues and strange events that she's been a part of and thing plot drives forward like a taxi to its destination. The literary reviewer, H. M. Garber of goth e-zine Gothic Angst, has published a review of Volume Four from Mill Avenue Vexations. People should trot on over there and check it out.

Since I’ve neglected to actually advertise the release of Volume 6 or 7 on here, I need to make sure that I keep up the news for you folks! This is to let people know that Cranes is officially at the press! The artwork has been released as well, so go look at it! There will be copies down on Mill this Saturday, and I will put a bulletin out Friday about this fact -- and maybe a blog -- hopefully with the cover and other pretty things to make people sit up and pay attention.

I write this after I've learned that my friend, Emmanuel, has died. It is likely that few of my friends here know him, but I am recording my speech here nonetheless, lest my memory of him ever be forgotten.
- - -
It's not often that I have the need to write biographical speeches…and less so about someone that I cared about, found smiling in the Saturday Mill Ave lights, and now won't see there again. So say "I barely knew you" rings hollow for anyone who likely knew him a lot longer, and a lot better than I. But here is my experience. As a person, Emmanuel was a welcome sight. Quick witted, truthful to his core, cheerful and thoughtful about his speech, his composure added something dramatic and driven to our little gatherings. Easy laughter and jocularity became the hallmark of his conversation and he used them often to soften the edge of his keen, curious intellect. But the one thing that he left with the most of us – and what anyone who has spent time will them will carry away – is the warmth of his compassion and the comfort his company brought. Writing a speech like this is all about saying what perhaps doesn't need to be said, because everyone is already thinking it. I ask for everyone's indulgence by closing with what doesn't need to be said, because everyone listening already has it written on their hearts: "Emmanuel, you will be missed." Kyt Dotson

For the hell of it, I wrote a story that basically cameos Cory Doctorow ( read Hello Cory here) and after I sent it out to him for him to look at he put a post online about it -- next thing I know, a wonderful guy named Paul Parkinson adapted it for audio. I've posted the news on this subject on Mill Avenue Vexations news.

I would like to announce the release of a special color-cover edition Mill Avenue Vexations Volume 5: Drum Circle. They are available from my very own Vexations web store, and you can also just buy them from us in person (although not on Mill since we won't carry them for fear of scuffing up their lovely covers.) Fans of the Vexations series should also come by the website to keep up on news and other interesting events -- we'd like to hear from you all! Volume 6 is in pre-production and should be showing up soon.

Mill Avenue Vexations Volume 5: Drum Circle by Kyt Dotson has officially been released to print, e-book, and HTML! It is right now available for order in our online store. (Note: there will be a special edition release of this volume with a cover printed in color, but it will probably cost around $10 and a very limited number will be made.) Once again one-hundred copies have been printed (black & white versions, however) that I am taking with me to the Ave on Saturday nights with the intent of giving them away to fortunate passersby. If you so desire one of these coveted and collectible versions try to make your way out to the place where this all started! Furthermore, I will be spending time at the eponymous location for this volume—our very own drum circle. As always, much cheer and welcome to all my fans and readers. I look forward to many more volumes in this series as we are bringing up the next three volumes this year.

Mill Avenue Vexations Volume 2 (yes, they're moving up the ranks) has gotten a review on a goth webzine. Blogged also today on the Vexations blog. Still loving it. She's been trucking through, although I'm late in reporting it -- this is the volume where Nathan shows up and some portents are revealed as the plot begins to move in that creepy direction that show spell disaster for Phoenix. The literary reviewer, H. M. Garber of goth e-zine Gothic Angst, has published a review of Volume Two from Mill Avenue Vexations. People should trot on over there and check it out.

Mill Avenue Vexations CASE NUMBER: 33-7612-21/A by Kyt Dotson has officially been released to the web! This is part of a small series of stories that will involve characters other than Vex describing situations that she is involved in. CASE NUMBER 33-7612-21/A is a tribute to the police and their work protecting citizens from criminals; a duty that sometimes runs across the supernatural and Vex's domain. It is a story told in a series of police reports, memos, journal entries, and interviews. Enjoy. That means that you can read it online. Just follow the links to the page where it's at. While you're at it you can also see the other posted stories that are available.
