2009 is here and the first Soul-A-Go-Go of the year is ready to rock
your socks!!

Head down to The Laundry Feb 7 as we kick off with a Chicago Special. Caught somewhere between the down-home charm of Memphis and the catchy confection of Motown’s Detroit, Chicago Soul came in many forms - from the gritty gospel sounds of Otis Clay, to the eclectic melodic genius of Curtis Mayfield and the proto-rap of Syl Johnson.  Chess Records, had dominated Chicago during the blues era and stayed on top through the 1960s by evolving a more sophisticated urban but eminently danceable sound exemplified by the likes of Etta James, Billy Stewart and Sugar Pie Desanto.  Other important Windy City hitmakers include Gene Chandler, Johnny Sayles, Harold Burrage, Alvin Cash, Betty Everett and Tyrone Davis whose records still keep dancefloors going on strong in Soul rooms all over the world today.

In the Soul room catch Mohair Slim (Blue Juice), Pierre Baroni (Soulgroove '66) and very special guest from Sydney DJ Bernhard.

Bringing the funk will be Miss Goldie (Boss Action), DJ Manchild (The Breakdown) and self proclaimed freedom funk fighter Mr Lob.
