New Hope for the Tocado Festival

(voor Nederlandstalige tekst zie onderaan!)

Yesterday our office received a call from the city counsil saying they are reconsidering the cancellation of the permiot for the Tocado Festival.
A final decision will be made on monday.
The option of relocating the festival to an indoor location is not agreable forv us since too many people are bound to show up and we insist on doing this outdoors since we think our music should be heard by unsuspecting people too sionce we ourselves also have to listen to things we don 't like from time to time in this city. Student parties for instance!
There are two options left : either the festival will be relocated to 'Het Leuve Hoofd" (right next to the bridge we use in our logo!) or the festival will be held on the original location in the cente of Rotterdam and  shortened from 13:00 to 19:00 istead of til 21:00.
Both options are OK with us but relocating wil mean the city will have top provide us with an extra 10.000 euro's for extra expenses since we won't be able to use the fscilities made available by 'Hert StadsPodium'. (the city stage).
More on monday!
We decided to go ahead with the pre party at De Unie (Mauritsweg 34-35-Rotterdam) although the main festival is not 100% sure to continue.

Tocado Records celebrates 12 1/2 anniversary

........................

Tocado Records celebrates 12 1/2 anniversary

"Do It Together". After twelve and a half years the ground rule for Tocado Records is still intact and straight forward.
The record company, established in 1997 which has always stood for music as an expression instead of a mass-product, was more than able to keep it's head above water in between the wolves of the industry.
"Together we stand strong" is the slogan. "Do It Together" is obviously a continuation on the "Do It Yourself" (DIY) attitude of the punk-scene. Tocado is a community of bands not only promoting their own but also each other along with booking tours and most important of all; sharing a network.
Tocado, originally founded as a punk-label, has put a great variety of music on record for over the passed twelve years; from the heated experimental jazz funk of "
Stöma ", the Nu-Wave of "Lushus", the soundtrack-music of "Spektr" to the ultimately grinding electro-punk of The Suicidal Birds. Tocado also has a history of scouting new talent. For example; it was Tocado Records who discovered "Elle Bandita" and released her first album.
Although there were a lot of different styles released by Tocado over the years, the punk-spirit never disappeared. Do what you want... how you want it... regardless of what the rest of the world thinks of it. And Tocado proved that there is an audience for these stubborn musicians. Tocado artist "Harry Merry", who took care of several two month during U.S.A.-tours every summer for over the last seven years (The big dream for every artist but not too obvious for the biggest among us), can be seen as the living proof that the Tocado code works.
The productions are getting better and better looking and the label is getting more airplay every year.
Despite of the non-commercial attitude of Tocado, their working methods are far from old fashioned or corny. Innovation comes first so there will always be the intention to bring the music of the involved musicians to the people and put some food on the table. That’s why publishing deals are also a fact at Tocado nowadays where they already handled the so called "360 degree-deals". Tocado is co-operating with an ever increasing number of distributors, bookings-agencies and promoters.

Twelve years non-commercial, twelve years artistic freedom, twelve years of success!
Party time...

The festivities on the twelve and a half year anniversary of Tocado will start on August 22th at De Unie, Mauritsweg in
....Rotterdam.... with a pre-party where Tocado will be presenting two bands who are in negotiation with Tocado for a record-deal; "Doodoo's Coffee" and "The Bullfight". There will also be a solo-performance of "Mark Lotterman" this evening.
On August 29th is the day the big "Twelve and a half years Tocado" festival on het Grote Markt Plein behind the Laurenskerk (Laurens church) in
....Rotterdam.... will take place. Almost every Tocado-band/artist will perform that day. The festival starts at ..13:00.. with in the following order: Jugend, Pony Pack, Harry Merry, The Monroes, Yoshimi, The Suicidal Birds, Skinnerbox, The Stilettos, Lushus, Mark Lotterman Band, Stöma.

An after-party at De Unie, Mauritsweg with Harry Merry & the Must, The Monroes and Lushus will start at
..22:00..

....

Please note: the Suicidal Birds and Pony Pack have switched places in the line up due to another Suicidal Birds show this same day in Koln (Germany)

....................

PERSBERICHT: ....

.. ..

12 ½ JAAR TOCADO-RECORDS

De "Do It Together" instelling van Tocado-records is 12½ jaar na dato nog altijd intact en oprecht. ....

12 jaar non-commercie, 12 jaar artistieke vrijheid, 12 jaar succes!
Tijd voor feest.......

.. ..

Jugend, Pony Pack, Harry Merry, The ....Monroes...., Yoshimi, The Suicidal Birds, Skinnerbox, The Stilettos              ....

Lushus, Mark Lotterman band, Stöma. ....

.. ..

Daarnaast verzorgt De Unie op de Mauritsweg zowel een preparty op 22 Augustus met The Bullfight, DooDoo’s Coffee en Mark Lotterman als een afterparty op 29 Augustus vanaf 22:00 uur met Harry Merry & the Must, The Monroes en Lushus.....

Spektr tour postponed

We had to postpone the Dutch Spektr tour which was planned for Oktober. A couple of very good gigs weren 't confirmed on time. For instance the Amsterdam Dance event thought Spektr wasn 't enough of a dance band 9damn right they are NOT; and hurray for that!)

A couple of options for high profile gigs came up last minute but didn't fall into the touring period we agreed with the band but these gigs were too good to let go. We're able to plan things a lot better now so stay poised for a Spektr tour in Holland soon!

Lushus does Russia

Lushus send a sms to us from Russia; they are doing very well. The tour schedule is heavy but the band has a very good time, the audiences love them and they sell many a cd. A complete tiour report will soon follow

De Dood; new drummer and on the go again

Drummer Floyd left de Dood to finish his studies in june so the band had to take a summer leave and find a new drummer. In the meantime they did; his name is Wouter van der Kemp and he is well endowed; like the rest of the band. The fist gig with Wouter will be in Exit on august 30 as support of Koudvuur, who will shoot a video that night.

Reviews for Stöma and the Must.

Dutch magazine reviews for the Boe! Album by Stöma are finally coming in. All of them are pretty nice so far. They're all in Dutch off course but here's the link:

Harry Merry and the Must got some very nice reviews on the web and one pretty darn hilarious bad one in Music Maker. Don't get us wrong we love bad reviews if they are passionate like this one. Nobody has to like any of our bands; we rather have dumbasses hate us! Read the reviews here:

Every set on the party will be filmed and aired live on a specially made 3voor12 digital TV channel. Without doubt the whole thing will get several reruns so it's no excuse NOT to visit this party, OK?

Boe! ; the new album by Stöma is doing pretty well. The album was aired on 3voor12's Luisterpaal (hard to translate; ehh listerners pole?) and stood in the highly acclaimed list of the forum of that same luisterpaal the whole 10 days people could listen to it by a streamer. Several reviews are to be found at music sites. No printed reviews yet; that'll take a while...

We reprinted the booklet for the album since we were not satisfied with how the plant treaded it and a few names were misspelled. So everyone who bought Boe! In the first month of it's release now has a collectors item.

The Suicidal Birds are back from their UK/Ireland tour and are working on a new 7" vinyl single that will be called 'heavy heads'. A videoclip will also be made for that same song. XFM launched the single in the show of John Kennedy; the music that is since the single is not pressed yet.

De Dood just released a new titleless promotional cd; old songs but recorded with the new line up consisting of Floyd on Drums, Joost on Bass and Vioncent Niks on guitar/vocals. The results are awasome; tight as a duck's ass and even more agressive. More about de Dood here http://www.tocado.com/?action=cmsmsg&cmsmsg_id=660

We've got a lot of new stuff coming your way in 2007; here's a short list:

The Stainless compilation album with 9 Dutch metalcore bands will be available on january 5. The first chance to buy it will be on our releaseparties in Waterfront, Rotterdam on january 5 and Het Paard van Troje, The Haque on january 6. In Rotterdam you'll get the cd for free with your entrance money and in The Haque you can buy it for €.5 at the merchstand. The third releaseparty will be on january 21 at Melkweg, Amsterdam and you can buy the cd there for €.5 too.

Harry Merry and the Must will release their first 7" single in february. We're still planning a releaseparty so we wait for the date. The Must must plan a couple of rehearsels before we can set the date, but that will happen this week. We also need to do a photoshoot for the cover of the single. That's another thing that's hard to plan since Harry is on tour most of the time, but who's complaining about that...

The songs on the single will be "don't touch the clutch too much" and "been through Friday". We will press 300 copies only and the single will only be sold through the Tocado webshop and at Harry Merry gigs so be quick about it.

Before the Must will go on their USA tour in March we plan to release another single with "the Panorama paper" b/w "harbour fair".

After the tour the Must we would like the Must to start recording a full length, but we'll see what happenes at the time.

The Killdaddies will release a split album with Solecisme Pedestri called PUNK ROCK COME DIO COMANDA. Both are Italian punktrockbands and they sure rock hard. The cd will be out on january 17. The Killdaddies will tour Holland before spring. He band is already working on dates.

Stöma will hit the studio in january to record a single featuring turntablist D.J. Eniless. We can't exactly say when the recordings will be ready since the band will take their time and come up with something outrageously good and we're used to that so…  Release will hopefully before Stöma will go on the USA tour as part of the Must in March (yes, they will play as Stöma too on the tour; not to worry!!).

The Stilettos are a new band on our roster. The Stilettos are a garagepunk band from Utrecht with a line up of drums, guitar and voice. The Stilettos already released 2 albums and a couple of singles. Their first album on Tocado will be called StimulusBlackBoxResponse and will be out in march.

Elle Bandita just told us she will start recording her new album in february. Elle has written a bunch new songs and is also working on a brand new show. We absolutely have no idea when the album will be ready, let alone when we can release it. But you can start anticipating!

Mindscan is working on the preproduction of their first full length. They will probably start recording in february. The band plans to record at the Excess studio and mix in the studio of one of the members Textures who is a great producer. Again there's no telling when this one will be ready. Mindscan plays a lot of shows early 2007, so if you want an idea how the album will sound like you should check 'm out.

Tocado will sign Marie Celeste this year and release at least a MCD or single. But the girls first have to make a good demo after their recent line up change. It's all really early but we just can't shut up about this band… Hilde, who played bass/vocals in Lady!Die is in this band. We couldn't do an album with Lady!Die two years ago since the band broke up, but in the end we signed two bands with ex members of Lady!Die (Mindscan is the other one).

Tocado records will celebrate our 10th anniversary this year and that won't be going on unnoticed. There's a lot of plans for compilation album to celebrate our first ten years. We will do an albuym with studio and live recordings containing alternative/abvant-garde/weird stuff made by bands from all over the Globe. Mostly bands our artists met while touring and befriended.

Another crazy plan is to release an album containing songs by Harry Merry performed by a host of bands in all kinds of different genres. A lot of bands already signed up for this one. No, we won't mention names yet, but be sure you'll hear Harry songs in punk, metal, accoustic, folk, electro and yeah, well whatever!
