Glimpse - Drifting E.P. - Planet E (inc Carl Craig Remix) Out Now 2008'Planet E starts the new year with a monstrous release by Glimpse including a remix by the maestro himself, Mr Carl Craig. Infectious and emotive Detroit tech grooves as you would expect. Tip !!!' GLIMPSE - Drifting (Planet E) 4*
Christopher Spero has become an extremely in demand producer and remixer over the last few years with his releases on his own Glimpse imprint and now this strong release on Planet E. As one would expect from a Planet E release its heavy on drama and atmosphere with some Detroit stabby synths, a long drop which really builds the tension and a drawn out epic feel. On the flip its none other than Carl Craig that steps up for the remix. His contribution is more immediate and aimed at the dancefloor jugular. Slamming beats and hats raise the energy levels but the original works best.GLIMPSE - IBIZA VOICE REVIEW.
Glimpse has spent the last 7 years honing his production skills, culminating in a raw talent that is awed by a legion of top producers. Richie Hawtin championed his music back in 2001 and remixes of his tracks have been offered from the likes of Carl Craig, Jay Haze and Johnny D.
Glimpse starts the new year with some old skool flavour and a release on Planet E. This package includes a rare remix from the maestro himself, Mr Carl Craig and oozes infectious and emotive Detroit techno grooves. 'Drifting' was a track buried and forgotten on a hard drive until Glimpse's friend and supporter Dean sent it on to Carl Craig, who immediately snapped it up for release. Topped with a rare remix from the man himself, this EP is reminiscent of an early Planet E release and classic techno cut, with glimmering synth sounds and choppy beats.
Christopher Spero AKA Glimpse is an experimenter with sound who finds true solace in music. Long heralded as a pioneer of underground electronic music amongst his peers, his tracks have found fans across the board including Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Jay Haze, Francois K, Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin - who licensed his tracks to a MINUS compilation and champions many of his releases.

GLIMPSE : FEAT TAKA BOOM - WE EXISTED - FOUR TWENTY RECORDSIDJ MAGAZINE / IBIZA VOICEWith frankly amazing singles on his own Glimpse Recordings and Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom earlier this year, 2007 is shaping up to be one hell of a year fro Christopher Spero aka house/techno prodigy Glimpse. Here, he delivers his debut for the UK-based bastion of quality that is Four:Twenty with a superb collaboration with critically acclaimed Taka Boom (sister of Chaka Khan) in the form of "We Existed". The fusion of the super smooth forward thinking deep house of Glimpse with Boom's subtle, sultry vocals is an inspired one which results in an original and impeccable track.Another great UK talent, Tom Demac is first to remix "We Existed" and does so in fine style. It's plain to see why so many labels of note are requesting releases from Tom on first listen to his skilful, deep and dubby excursion into Detroit inspired house. Jay Shepheard, not to be outdone, turns in two remixes for the package. His "Alternative Remix" is up first and is a driving affair with a percussive punch and nagging FM chords providing the perfect base for Taka's vocals and some well placed keys. The "Main Rmx" from Compost man Shepheard carries on the mantle of quality with a decidedly more electronic and epic feel: a shrinking violet this is not. Finally, Spero himself returns to deliver bonus track "Always On My Own", and what a bonus it is. Electronic funk at it's finest, the track has a trippy melancholic-but-not vibe which makes it like an aural desert – totally irresistible. 5/5-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Giles Smith DJ Magazine (UK - Print)
Really like this release from the hugely talented Glimpse who seems to be able to move in different territories. Here with the vocal talents of Taka Boom (Chaka Khan's sister) he moves into a more Detroity House direction with "We Existed". Its a slow burner, deep, melancholic and seductive with its lo-slung percussive vibe and sassy spoken word vocal. On the flip "Always on my own" is along similar lines with some lo-fi fuzzyness, voice like synths and some nice musical flourishes.Giles Smith (DJ magazine / secretsundaze)' 4.5/5-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nitzan Clash (UK - Print) Christopher Spero is the person behind wonderful house producer Glimpse.Following some acclaimed releases on Planet E and his own imprint Glimpse Recordings, Chris delivers his forward thinking vision of house music, featuring the great vocals of Taka Book(sister of Chaka Khan). The title track, 'We Existed' ,manages to finely balance dance agenda with modern soul touch, standing out from the regular mini beats drill, nailing it with wonderful Detroit like chords, really elevating this number.Fellow UK producer Jay Shepheard delivers the my favourite remix, just giving the track a nudge more towards the dance floor. Quality.' 5/5----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Bill Brewster IDJ (UK - Print) Glimpse as always is IMMENSE., it's all about the original. Glimpse Raum Volume 1 Mixed By Glimpse
IDJ MAGAZINE REVIEW MAY 2008 ISSUE
Raum certainly have nothing to prove when it comes to backing a winner which is why it's not surprising that they've enlisted the hotly tipped Glimpse to mix their inaugural mix cd. As you'd expect from an artist who happily infuses jazz with both techno and deep house, this comp is by no means a one dimensional affair. Glorious, modern tech-house such as Agnes' remix of Tom Demac on Hypercolour sit merrily alongside slightly colder (but no less funky) minimalism of the likes of Mark Henning and Appendics Shuffle to create a flowing yet varied mix. With 54 tracks crammed on to one cd, there's certainly a lot going on, but it doesn't feel rushed or overly cobbled together. The standout cuts are Glimpse's own productions, particularly his collaboration with Matt Tolfrey, "Misunderstood", which sums up the mix excellently - deep, groovy and original. A really strong mix from someone the UK should be very proud of. 5/5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
........ GLIMPSE - ELEPHANT SKINS E.P.- LEFTROOM RECORDS
If Glimpse's music has escaped your notice it's time to pay attention. Chris Spero's textured sound unveils one of the most talents producers in the UK. Elephant Skins uses an array of live instruments and conjures an atmosphere of exotic shores. Snippets of brass and string instruments work through rhythmic beats and various haunting sounds generate a fanfare of techno. The EP package comes with remixes from Johnny D, saviour of the underground and Jay Haze, master of diverging genres plus another exclusive Glimpse production, Find A Way. Jay Haze enhances the original track in his remix, building on its curiousity and grace. Firmer drums, drawn out horns and flamboyant guitar riffs with Spanish flair ignite the energy and intoxicating vigour of the track. Find A Way is a warm and inviting track. A whispering vocal glides over the high synths and bubbling beats, a stunning track that proves Glimpse's versatility. Johnny D is one of the lead artists on Oslo Records, one of the fastest growing new labels to emerge and highly respected for its output. His remix shimmers with percussion and peppers over a gentle vocal loop. The track gradually filters dramatic synths and extends the drums to draw you in to its drama. Glimpse has gained big name fans including Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug and this EP has been recognized by Ricardo Villallobos. The next few months see him in Brazil, Japan and Germany with his exclusive live show. A true creative he started Glimpse Recordings in 2001 with the unique concept that all the releases on the label were to be produced soley by him. A unique and refreshing set of productions from an exceptional producer and team of talent create an inescapable EP from Leftroom.

Glimpse - Elephant Skins - Leftroom Records
With each record Glimpse releases he shows that you can still do something new and surprising within techno today. His talent is very refined and his sound is very musical. He has a strong sense of stucture and harmony. His tracks have the sounds of timeless classics. Glimpse is house, minimal, techno, pop and jazz.

Glimpse - Elephant Skins E.P 4/5
It's hard to know what to expect from Glimpse. Chris Spero is just as comfortable throwing up proggy bangers ('Caught On Train'), a spot of deepness ('Pushing Claude') or even Kompakt Pop-baiters ('Rocket Love'). That's, of course, a good thing and a bad thing. As someone who can travel between genres easily, Spero is an undoubted talented fellow. And, yet, because of this, you can't help but get the feeling that the guy doesn't spend enough time in each to get a real complete handle on anything—before going off somewhere else to interlope some more. On his latest, he goes "abstract": 'Elephant Skins' would fit on any mind-bending minimal compilation of recent vintage. The track is dubby, but not dub techno. It has strange distended horn samples, but doesn't get too out there. The drums sound like tribal warriors consigned to a simple, boring pattern. For all its "weird" (read: safely strange) signifiers, though, the track goes down like a charm. Spero's obviously an expert in production matters and, more importantly, knows how to balance a track's elements against one another. What could have been an exercise in the dull paint-by-numbers Villalobos turns into something just as engrossing as some of his earlier work. The Jay Haze remix may be even better. The groove instantly picks up from the original and Haze turns the horns into staccato reminders of what they once were. Add in what sounds like a flamenco guitar (the taste of which seems to be all the rage at the moment) and you've got a satisfying tune that betters an already solid original. On the B, Glimpse continues apace with the deepness. 'Find a Way' mines Cassy's production box, layering two separate vocal samples to hypnotic effect. In some ways, it almost sounds like a parody, but it hardly matters. The end result of Spero's building groove is one that elides any sort of criticism—quite simply, I'm dancing too much to complain. Man of the moment Johnny D turns up next for another version of 'Skins', which is something close to massive. A hard-driving piece of work, D takes a vocal slice from 'Find a Way' and layers it over top a slightly-tribal pattern that should serve to build any set towards a climax of epic proportions. Excellent. 4/5 Todd. L Burns --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GROOVE MAGAZINE REVIEW
5 EASY PIECES & ELEPHANT SKINS Chris Spero has no trade-mark sound. The absence of a style recognition is not stacking against the London based artists. His force is the fulfilling of Sounds which are floating in the air. This sensibility makes each one of his rare releases more than special. The title track of the "Elephant Skins EP" presents itself with powerful minimalsound and several samples of exotic instruments like Onur Özer inspired – the other track "Find A Way" takes reduced house like the Mountain Peoples and add very soft singings. The "5 Easy Pieces" translate the warmth and instancy of classical and jazzy deep house in a modern techno language. This is the sound of the presence and also timeless music – a little piece of art -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Electronic Beats Review
Boom Boom there is an Elephant in the room. Glimpse, the up and coming Brixton based producer follows his recent sublime 5 Easy Pieces with Elephant Skins, his latest release on Left Room. Dark conga drums, which really do sound like the jungle radio, leads you into things before some seriously spooked out vocals, and touches of Jazz sax appear like animals showing themselves one by one. Jay Haze takes things in a more generic House direction, but Johnny D delivers a stunning remix, taking the jungle intensity upping it a notch or two and stripping the track back down to a driving minimal beast.

Mix Mag 5/5 ! House Record of the month
Buckets of funk, soul and classy vocals drench this imppressive four- track E.P. Glimpse (aka Chris Spero) Studied scultpture at Saint Martin's. But since graduating in 2000 he's dedicated himself to sculpting music. This four-tracker opens with the ace 'Misunderstood'. It starts off as a warm deep houser, but builds into a more energetic cut via some trumpet and piano. 'Pushing Claude' is a dubby, reverb-laced cut-up with oodles of funk and a great vocal. '100% Shiraz' combines retro riffs with techno beats while 'in my soul' is a Freerange-style loopy jazz treat, with some moody filtered vocals. For fans of modern house.
5/5

House Single of the month IDJ Magazine
House Section / Single of the month 5/5 Straight out of Brixton come these four delights, and you can see why the cognoscenti are getting tickled by Glimpse and his enonymous label. There's hints of Moodyman, Recloose and Shazz to be found in there. With strong jazzy influences, off the wall vocals and moody drums. If all that sounds a bit po-faced and beardy then so be it ! 5/5
Minimal Section / Recommended 4/5 'Chris Spero's textured sound has won him fans from across the techno spectrum, and this new release on his own label sees him investigating deeper moods with typical conviction. 'Misunderstood', a collaboration with Matt Tolfrey, is suffused with plaintive washes and sweet piano stabs, 'Pushing Claude' and 'In My Soul' fuse trad-house vox with smart micro-swing, and Barcelona's Undo reworks '100% Shiraz' in bombastic style. House music rarely sounded so futuristic.'

GLIMPSE - 5 EASY PIECES
There are actually only four tracks on this release from Chris Spero (on his own Glimpse label), but when you're making music this good, arithmetic skills are of secondary importance. All of the cuts are graceful and subdued, with vaguely Chicago-esque house beats laced with snippets of piano, vocal samples, synthetic bleeps and similar sonic filigree. "Pushing Claude," with its squelchy bass and driving rhythm, is probably the most clubworthy of the bunch, but the standout is "Misunderstood," which sounds like Carl Craig's jazz-tech vibe crossed with the electronic soul of Âme. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DE:BUG MAGAZINE REVIEW GLIMPSE - '5 EASY PIECES' - GLIMPSE RECORDINGS
Glimpse - 5 Easy Pieces (Glimpse Recordings) It is not like the title suggests on the E.P, you will only find 4-tracks. The first track glides like pure jazz a collaboration with Matt Tolfrey. The track is very casual with blowing effects over a smooth Groove and some great live piano work. This is music perfect for the first spring sun and the next open air party. Soft, deep, relaxed, and with the secure feeling that everything has its on place on the track. The Undo remix of "100% Shiraz" is deeper, not to save large synths and highlights happy with bass from Detroit in a world where the trendy bleeps almost expected. Hey, this does not sound almost like Underworld again? "In My Soul" moved everything back in the groove and jazzy saves not with samples from the deep soul crate, sings from the deepest throat and drifts of Detroit from across the globe. Glimpse is Chris Spero whos EPs label the peculiar permits have fun with each release blacker to 20%. The last track, "Pushing Claude", is also the deepeste rounds and the Ep with elegiac Orgelakkorden and finely verdubbt itching sounds too much soul, and even has a kind of refrain. A classic. 5/5

Glimpse 5 Easy Pieces
Glimpse itself is not a flashy thing, he investigates, mutates and changes constantly in search of electronic music of dance of quality and with something specific to say. If in its previous reference The masculine Ep moved toward symphonic and melodic courses now in this Five easy pieces is returned more deep, including directors and arrangements jazzies, with a great electronic complexity of fund that them dá the just point of futurism. This ep is one of its more mature works to date. Pushing Claude opens the disk with a groove very to the style Metro Area, very full, cosmic disk of you feel analog and alone of moog. With some samples vocal worthy of the very same one Frank Zappa. Temazo. In my soul continues in this line but throwing toward territories more house deep of that of all the life, fine and fat to time. More cream and more calité. In the third theme causes helps for its godfather Matt Tolfrey in the cut more minimaloide and of season of the be reread. To close the tremendous work, a remix of Undo, in key more neon more digestible, pretty trance and more mainstream than the other three tracks. A complete, good disk that opens me the eyes to new forms to see the electronics of dance.
8/10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------REVIEW SOUND REVOLT
Glimpse - 5 Easy Pieces
Glimpse Recordings clearly have a dedication to quality over quantity. With this, only their seventh release in four years, they flow against the tide of digital detritus and set sail with another selection of beautifully crafted tracks.
Previous releases, including the '% Black' records, have seen a Dj fan base growing to include a veritable 'who's who' of dance music. With Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice, Ritchie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier & Steve Bug among the many that have added Glimpse releases to their sets he has become a mainstay with gods of techno.
'5 Easy pieces' is a four track EP. Opening with the warm and stripped 'Misunderstood', a collaboration with Matt Tolfrey, the record heads straight into Carl Craig territory, deep, melodic but with a certain edge. Next up is 'Pushing Claude' with the divaesque vocals of Patricia Wade set over intense synths and jacking drums, this track retains a real sense of techno soul. Third in the line is '100% Shiraz' remixed by Undo, originally released on Glimpse's '80% black' single, the remix takes things to a new heights and delivers a glowing piece of electronica. Finally we have 'In My Soul', weaving hypnotic vocals and deep chord stabs to give birth to a deep house classic.
This is a set of diverse tracks with a strong soulful thread that ties it all together into an outstanding package. Glimpse Recordings releases may be few and far between but they are certainly worth waiting for.
'5 Easy Pieces' is released on Glimpse Recordings in April.

365 International Music Magazine ..tr>..tr>..tr>..tr>..tr>..tr>..tr> ..tr>| GLIMPSE - '5 EASY PIECES' There's actually four tracks of superb electronic house and techno on this EP, but with quality like this, we're not going to quibble with those lovely people at Glimpse Recordings. Luciano, Ricardo and Laurent are rarely wrong about these things, you know… In the record business, unfortunately quantity is often confused with quality. So many labels just keep churning out the tracks without exercising a vital music production skill that is often forgotten: quality control. However, this is one fault that can't be attributed to ace UK label Glimpse Recordings; in fact their output in the last four years comes to only seven releases. And each of these has been a beautifully crafted piece of music, which has lead to the label becoming much beloved of minimal masters like Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos, as well as more established talents like Richie Hawtin and Laurent Garnier. The % Black records have been the really popular ones with clubbers and DJs alike…that is, until now. "With the 5 Easy Pieces EP, it's easy to see why this label has such a solid rep." With the 5 Easy Pieces EP, it's easy to see why this label has such a solid rep. The first track, Misunderstood, might as well be a statement to other less discerning labels, as well as a sterling deep effort with Matt Tolfrey collaborating with Glimpse main man Chris Spero. All waves of warmth crashing all around, this is a real piece of sonic craftsmanship, with the keys and horns giving a (Cobblestone) jazz feel. Next up is Pushing Claude, with the serious vocals of Patricia Wade contrasting with the twisted nature of the track's other elements. 100% Shiraz (originally 80% Black but now remixed by Undo) takes us into bleepy and jazzy electronica territory, while In My Soul is a triumphant deep house number. What more could you need? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Chris Spero creates dark yet strangely satisfying slim line techy compositions as Glimpse. This EP kicks off with the polite bleeping key and retro sax driven Misunderstood, created with Matt Tolfrey, before moving onto the vocal and key slicing Pushing Claude. Undo of Factor City fame gives 100% Shiraz the epic Spanish tech house treatment as only he can, whilst In My Soul ends proceedings with some weird vocoder work and serious keys. "

TRANSLATED FROM SPANISH Glimpse is one of the hidden talents of the British electronics, after his excellent black series, he has decided to change the labels style somewhat to a more complex and relaxed exercise, deepening in the melodies and the pads and boradening the space. But keeping the detroit influcence from the 'Black Series' , With clearly inspiration in the classics. Five very personal cuts. For flure opens the ep, with its melodies of cello and violin sprinkled by sequences of feels cosmic and random and human voices treaties digitally, a delight. In Lonely Sundays itself about Al Metro style disk sound Area in the bases and rounds the theme with some directors very ochenteros, sung by he himself, very original and surprising. Temazo. Recalls me to Fad Gadget. In the expensive one B, opens Masculine with an aftertaste to the first Transmat of Rhythm is rhythm, sounds of digital bells, pads dynamic and sequences FM, on beats of 909, a trip in the time, classical and unclassifiable. Your hand on me continues in that same vein, but more direct Al dance, without doubt this is the best track of all the maxi. To close a small detail acid house with Work one of those themes of root chicagera and rowdy, more close to its back series. Tremendous E.P., original, risky, finely made and a margin of times. Well done for Glimpse. Excellently deisgned music once again from the unimpeachable Glimpse - wadeing through a growly bassline which will sound unbelievable on the bigger boxes, 100% shiraz risks it all by throwing multiple elements into the mix, but manages to emerge with all credibility fully intact - a self-effacing but considerable piece of work. "Mr go encore" is fully weaponised and seems to lock horns with Sleeparchive and Sahko in jump up minimal mode, "The mask" cleaves to the dark detroity side, "Stealing Nina" toys with some harder funk and a destroyed blues sample - rocks hard and still. Wonderful twelve - discover immediately. Glimpse has stealthed upto and as far as its third release with minimum fuss and maximum quality assured. "Strip down" is ideal material for the 006 dj, rampant bass, clipped but functional rhythm and ominous vocal, huge tune – no doubts. "Body slip julia" shows the continuity of this music with european electronics and detroit techno comign together, a mighty whomping beeline again and pointillist rhythm manoeuvres guaranteeing a busy floor. "Carmenera" is simply addictve – nagging toppy riff and that by now telltale bottom end, shelving down ever deeper down below. Massive and highly consistent twelve - minimal magic!
Glimpse & Alex Jones - 'Fellaz' Hypercolour Records We're pleased to announce the return of glimpse to hypercolour, following up his acclaimed 'talking to girls' ep with a stunning new track made in collaboration with hypercolour head honcho alex jones. 'felaz' sees the pair boiling down a digi-disco groove to its bare bones for a masterfully constructed, low-slung techno epic. grand chimes ripple over an ethereal vocodered refrain, while a chugging, burbling bassline pulses endlessly below. discarding the soulless glitches of contemporary minimalism in favour of elegant sound design and straight, richly textured synths, it's a deeply powerful slice of highend dancefloor gold. on the flip, offenbach's super-hot prodigy matt star gets stuck into 'felaz' with a strippeddown, gentler alternative to the original's swelling pyrotechnics. --> --> --> --> --> -->
It would be idle to peg London-based Glimpse as minimal techno artists. Fortunately they seem to be too boundless and too enquiring for that. Not least through varied moods that attract attention. Whether more gloomy and hypnotising as in 'Sculpture' with that ominous riff and droning bass line. Or classicly Chicago-esque with acid and bleeps in 'Sort U Out', when everything is close to falling apart! Finally 'Julia' seduces on a deep-house-trip with sexy female vocals and beautifully arranged frisky percussion patterns. Extraordinary debut single from a newborn label! --> --> --> --> --> -->
