A loss of something ever felt I -- by Emily Dickinson A loss of something ever felt I -- The first that I could recollect Bereft I was -- of what I knew not Too young that any should suspect
A Mourner walked among the children I notwithstanding went about As one bemoaning a Dominion Itself the only Prince cast out --
Elder, Today, a session wiser And fainter, too, as Wiseness is -- I find myself still softly searching For my Delinguent Palaces --
And a Suspicion, like a Finger Touches my Forehead now and then That I am looking oppositely For the site of the Kingdom of Heaven --

All I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - by Robert Fulghum
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some every day.
Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK . Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation, ecology and politics and sane living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and clean up our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

All that Glitters: The artful expression of body paint By Image Mag Staff @ 12:00 AM :: 6 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Style, Art |
images: Sean Hartgrove wordplay: Jill Wurnig body art: Kelsie model: Angel
Any high school student or football fan can tell you about painting their face for homecoming or the big game. But what if you took it to the next level? What if you painted your entire body? Then you'd have to go straight to Denver's expert in body paint, Kelsie of the Glitter Freckle.
Almost any guy can tell you, in detail, about the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. And, most guys AND girls can tell you about the even more fascinating painted swimsuit issue they do every few years. Well, Kelsie has taken this idea to a whole new level. For the past five years, she's been body painting professionally. She started locally at clubs and has worked her way into a national market that includes traveling shows and body art balls. At first glance the end result is a bit shocking, but once you understand the time and effort that goes in you can begin to appreciate the artfulness of the paint. The final product of full body paint can take up to 8 hours as Kelsie artfully applies layer after layer to create her masterpieces. Whether she's in a club being sponsored by a premier vodka, or using her talents to create an intricate ballerina, you can be sure the conclusion is a work of art.
As the holiday season is nearing, the Glitter Freckle does private make-up sessions for any ladies who want to look extra fabulous for that upcoming cocktail party. Kelsie also works with schools doing face paint as fund raisers. Check out her myspace page (myspace.com/glitterfreckle) for a sample of her work. Just think, the next generation may study body paint along side Picasso and Monet.
"Kelsie's work on our Image Magazine events and those of the biggest promoters in town at the best venues, adds aesthetic interactive value that is unmatched by lighting or video projection. Body art has been around since the beginning of recorded history and is here to stay with Glitter Freckle and the passion of other artist groups who hold the art dear." --Greg Bloom, Publisher

Who: Body artist Kelsie Young-Ibarra
What started out as a little face-painting gig at Casa Bonita has evolved into a full-on artistic pursuit for body-paint artist Kelsie Young-Ibarra. Though the 32-year-old Lakewood mom says she was always interested in makeup, industrial design, special effects and prop building, it wasn't until a friend encouraged her - again, and again and again - to move the airbrush off kids' faces and onto models' nude bodies that she found her real calling. Next weekend, her work will
be showcased in The Body Art Ball, where her work will parade down the runway in a kinetic performance art extravaganza.
You're highly enthusiastic about costuming other artists in a coat of latex paints and glitter. Why? I love replicating art pieces, like work I did for Van Gogh Vodka, and clothing replication. I get so much artistic satisfaction out of it.
How is costuming a performance artist different than working on a painted Halloween costume, for example? It's been an upstream battle for me to get people to notice the art form, how beautiful it is and what an honor it is to use a body as a canvas. Seeing a passionate performer in your paint, using it to the fullest, is amazing. They are as into it as I am.
How long will it take for you to create your performer's costume on Sunday? It's a whole-day affair. All of us are there at 10 a.m. There is some down time during the day. By around 9 p.m., we'll start an hour of live painting in front of the audience, where we're putting on the finishing

Do you paint by the seat of your pants, or do you try to plan your outfits? Last year, I did an Army girl and they kind of threw it at me at the last minute, but they gave me everything - the materials, the basic picture that they wanted. Artistically, I can bust it out, but I'm going to smile so much more this year if I have time to plan.
Any goals for the future of body painting in Denver or in general? I want people to appreciate it for the art that it is and not say "Gosh, she's naked!" This is not a boobie show. It's something I worked hard on; please appreciate it!
WATCH A BODY ARTIST
Kelsie Young-Ibarra will be one of 15 body artists transforming performers into living works of art for a runway show Oct. 1 at the Gothic Theatre, 3263 S. Broadway, Denver. Because the event is sponsored by Tuaca, the only way you'll get a ticket to the show is by cozying up to a barkeep in a joint that sells the Italian spirit. For details , visit the bodyartball.com. Catch a glimpse of Young-Ibarra's work at myspace.com/glitterfreckle or theglitterfreckle.com. |
