Here the complete Interview for Gothic Lifestyle Magazin No3

"I´m a pinkie - that´s all!"...

Now a strong woman, used to resist“.

Still I´m Sad“ meinen Tribut gezollt.

01.  Hello...! We are very happy to feature an
interview with you on our pages.
Whydon't you tell us what you're doing at the moment? Are you working at a new album?
Hello to you out there!
Of course I´ve started working on new tracks for several compilations and my new album, too.
I´m also preparing for some concerts as Genevieve Pasquier and with the group Jägerblut.

02. I am really surprised of your affection for vinyls... Until now you released tons of vinyl (then recollected on the VIRGIN PULSES CD) ... Why? Are you nostalgic about them? Did you grow up buying 45rmps, 12inch, etc?
Hey, do you really think that I´m soooooo old, that I had the possibility to grow up with vinyl? ;-)
Anyway. I don´t know. There was no special passion or idealism or "fetish" to release my works on vinyl. It depended a lot on the labels where the material was released.
I prefer none of them. I like Cd´s because they have an easy handling, but I also love the vinyl for the warm sound, the bigger possibilities for artworks and last but not least ,as you said for the nostalgic charme…..

03. "Sensuality" is one of the main ingredient of your music and personality. Where does this attitude come from?
Did you have models who inspired you this attitude?

It comes from Inside? I only try to be myself. If you see much sensuality, it is only a part of me. I´m not inspired by someone. I´m not a very good actress, so it wouldn´t help me much trying to play a role.
Affected behaviour and the showing of false faces isn´t something I want to show in my life.

04. I see on your myspace that you have a good number of scheduled shows .... Unfortunately we don't see nothing in Italy: why? Have you never been invited to play here? What about your live shows? How do you present your music on stage?

Yes, there is a lot going on at the moment.
It´s a pity that my way doesn´t bring me to Italy this year. And it´s true that there were no invitations til now. If I would be invited, I wouldn´t say no to bella Italia.
I always try to keep my concerts a bit reduced to the basics, no oversized special effect show that deflects from the music and the main protagonist. For me it´s important that the artist and his music including his show are honest. In my shows the focus lies on my performance on the micro accompanied by Dan Courtman on the Electronics supported by a video, some soap bubbles or the spirit of the location (theater, 50´s disco…).
But I always try to use the special features of the locations. In 2003 I gave a concert in the cellar of the club we played. The show was transmitted via two cameras to 16 TV-Monitors upstairs. An artist  painted a morphing picture on  my back. So the show became very "metaphysical".
On bigger stages I have a guitarist or one other protagonist as support of my music with me on stage.

05. Which artists - in music, in cinema, in books and in painting - influenced your way to express yourself?
Music              Enya, Jean Michelle Jarre, Pink Floyd, SPK, Mike Oldfield,
Cinema            Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day, Hugh Grant, Sophia Loren, Audrey Tatou
Books              Madita, The dream of Arden, The Wizard of Oz
Edgar Allen Poe, Platon
Art                   Dali, Francis Bacon,
Surrealism, Expressionism, and of course the grand old masters

06. People and media often describes your music as "industrial". Ha ha .... I don't blame them! I think it is very hard to find a label to describe your musical mix... How would you describe it?
What about your future? should we expect some further new musical experiments we actually don't expect by you?

….as Industrial?!

The best description I´ve heard was "Noise-Chansonette". I think this fits the best.
Yes, there is something cooking….

I´ll never stop making experiments. It´s too much fun. But not all of them are for the listeners. So let´s see, what remains on the next album.

07. Did you never think about doing a collaboration with artists from another musical area? Is there something already going on? What do you think about a collaboration between you and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio?

I´m always in correspondence with other artists. And some of them are interested in a collaboration. But this needs a lot of time, and time is always a problem…
But I still worked with other bands like Bastards of Love, Echo West or Sharcactus.
Working with Thomas would be much fun I guess. While I´m thinking about this, I see us both singing a duett together to a 50´s Rock´n Roll-minimal-appocalyptic-folk-noise track…or so…. So let´s see what the future will bring.

08. Talking back about your way of expression, I don't know why, but your character reminds me a lot of somebody coming from a past era... What about? Are you personally affectionated to another Century, another era or another kind of society?

Well, as I said, I´m only the way I am.
But I´m a bit affected from the 20´s to the 60´s. The style, music and society in this time had a great charme with lovingly detail for the simple things, it conveys harmony and diffuses a lot of flair and glamour in my eyes.
But I don´t try to copy it or to live in it.
I think in my way of expression you can see a bit of their influences. However, I don´t want to be a copy of an old fashioned diva. For me it´s important, that the listener see, what I´m doing and how I´m looking is my own way to express myself. It took many years to find myself and my way of styling and music.

09. What's your opinion about pornography? Should we consider it an art or not? Do you think there's an association between pornography and erotism? Or not?

I love pornography.
If it´s art? Hm…
You can look at a picture of an great artist but for you there no art in it. It´s the same with the pornographic art, I think. A good porn can be art, and the bad ones are real waste.
Porn can´t exist without erotism but the erotism can also exist on his own.
But the opinions about pornography are very individual. As you know Lina (Deutsch Nepal) likes "Tiroler Sex", others like feet or fetish. For everybody erotism arises through other stimulations. But most important is that all have fun!

10. What about your next releases? A new CD? New vinyls? What about a DVD release?

Till now I started to write new songs and make experiments, try new instrumentations and
arrange a few songs. But I can´t say much about the way I will release the next Album. First I have to write more lyrics ant think about the conception of my work
Perhaps in the future there will be a DVD. But in the next year there is nothing planned

11. Thanks again for this interview!
Could you reveal us your musical dream...

I also have to say thanks.
My personal dream is an old theatre with a red curtain on stage. Only a microphone with me in the middle. Wearing a long glittering galadress with a small hat. The Orchestra plays to my music. A Spotlight on me. Soap Bubbles are floating through the audience. After the first songs the curtain opens and a big 20´s scenery with some men in dress-coats appears. And the performance get started. Now you can see the analogue synths on the both sides of the stage...

An old fashioned-noise-classic concert with charme-elegance-erotism and flair.

 Who is Geneviéve Pasquier?

A little pink girl almost lonely in the middle of ..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />bavaria

Who is your favourite freggle? And why?

It´s Red. She has really the coolest haircut and colours

As a kid, what did you want to become when you were grown up?

I want to become an artist. But never thought of being a singer in an industrial project.

I also wanted to become a ballerina, actress, talkmaster, a princess, and guess I'm
nothing of it all except the princess

Is Summer Darkness the first concert in the Netherlands? And what do you expect from it?

Yes it´s really my first concert in the Netherlands. And I expect a lot of fun and many new
people I´ll meet.

Perhaps I´ll see the sea, no hills, flat earth, many Marihuana-trees, Ms. Antje and her
Cheese-wagon and al lot of junkies. Am I right? ;-p

What's your favourite food on the bbq?

Hmmmmm Yum yummy it´s already gone!

I guess it was chicken with roasted corn and potatoes. Some tomatoes with cheese,
a good mixed salad. And at least a bit black burned sausage.

Everyone has an addiction, shopping, smoking, chocolate and so on. What is yours?

definitely chocolate and shopping. What else? I´m a woman.

If you could organise a festival with every artist (even dead ones) who would play there?

Frank Sinatra and his daughter. Pink Floyd, SPK, Minamata, Jean Michelle Jarre, Edith Piaf,
Buddy Holly. That´s enough.

What cd's are currently in your cd player?

Messer Chups, Tonal Y Nagual, Snog, 80´s compilations

How does the ultimate Geneviéve day looks like?

The perfect day starts very very slow around 11 am. A long but small breakfast, watching TV,
going shopping for 2 hours, eat a little bit chinese food, watch TV, and then after watching TV
again I go to bed (mostly not alone ;-)) and fall asleep and dream nothing.

You also sing in Jägerblut, what is the difference in singing between your own music
and Jägerbluts music?

With my own project I make the music I want to do, something out of my soul. The lyrics always
reflect me and my surroundings. So I always try to play  more with my voice that it always sounds
a bit different and more expressive.

In Jägerblut I interprete my roots, my home, my bavarian country. My voice sounds more classical
and liturgical.

How did you discover you could sing? Are you a trained singer or a born singer?

In school I was a member of our choir. There I learned a bit classical singing for 4 Years.
After School I quit singing. And after, I guess 7 years I discovered while making music that there
is a little bit left of what I have learned. So I tried to get better and started singing again in a bit
more experimental way.

How do you get rid of stress before a concert?

Many big long hugs. If you know a better way-let me know.

We know you are shy, is it hard for you to communicate with the audience when you are on
stage as well?

It´s magical. On stage I'm not as shy as in real life. Every shyness is blown away

Following four smashing years of Summer Darkness including 2006's show by the legendary Bauhaus, the revelation Welle:Erdball and a euphoric Tivoli crowd during VNV Nation's victorious gig, 2007 marks the festival's fifth birthday. A special occasion with a special programme, with more superb underground top acts than ever before. And a lot of smashing headliners too!

Summer Darkness 2007 proudly presents EBM-grandmasters Front242, electropop topsmashhits And One and Covenant and metalseanstions My Dying Bride and The Netherlands' very own Epica. Crossoveract Client will bridge the gap between pop mainstream and underground electro, Modcom merges analogue sounds with dance floor mania and The Crüxshadows are back due to popular demand following their devastating show two years ago.

Can one mix EBM and folk? Well, we think one can and newcomer Heimataerde will prove us right. Jaegerblut offers an experimental take on Bavarian folklore, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio is a lot more sensual and Rome takes the ritual and martial route. Chamber will open the festival at the traditional acoustic free opening concert at the medieval Dom Church.

Furthermore Summer Darkness 2007 presents darkwave  (The Frozen Autumn), batcave deathrock (Frank the Baptist) and distorted industrialelectro (Angelspit) which makes for a varied and very internationally oriented programme featuring acts from Japan to Australia, Sweden tot Canada and the USA to Estonia. As usual the festival also plays host to a special NL-stage showcasing new and upcoming Dutch underground talent such as Outerspace Overdose, [Alt-F4] and PerferatoR23.

Across the medieval city centre of Utrecht, Summer Darkness will take place in the venues EKKO, Tivoli, Tivoli de Helling, ACU and the Dom Church. This unique city heart, vibrant, beautiful; and historic features some very special wharf cellars, canals, churches, squares and museums. That's why Summer Darkness will feature several special events apart from the musical programme. This years there will be city walks, guided museum tours, an open air gothic markt at the Dom Church Square, boat transport along the canals between our venues and lots more so stay tuned for further updates on our special events because Summer Darkness is not only a stage on a field with a camp site and not only a musical festival; it's an all-encompassing lifestyle event of music and the city of Utrecht in one.

GENEVIÉVE PASQUIER
VIRGIN PULSES/SOAP BUBBLE FACTORY

Respekt. Man ist gespannt auf mehr.

Pink Noise: Genevieve Pasquier

Interview by Frankenstein Radio Control

Genevieve Pasquier from Bavaria was only known in the Industrial scene, before she teamed up with "Bastards of love" on the german electropop label "We rock like crazy", that was active between 2004 - 2006. Her compositions are somewhere between Industrial, Electronica and Experimental.

1/ Can you describe your entry into electronic music? What made you interested in writing and performing?

It happened very quick. When I came together with my husband, he took me to the disco and I was flashed of what I heard there. It was the first time I ever heard this noises and electronic soundscapes. I always was interested in writing and performing and did this before. But it became more concrete during the work with Thorofon.

2/ How did your involvement with Thorofon begin? What experiences have you taken from that period into your current work?

It began with love! My personal experiences are: Never trust a concert booker; Analogue equipment makes more fun; The direct way is often the best one – and if not try again; There is no rivaly - we are all friends.

3/ What are you expressing in your song-writing? How do you approach music production and composition?

I express myself. It´s the best way to handle life, special situations, feelings, thoughts and wishes. Sometimes I start with the lyrics. Sometimes with the music. There is no special way I´m working. I do my music intutional. In most cases I rearrange my equipment completely to give me the most possible evolvement. I doesn´t use preset-sounds, I prefer to search sounds, noises and rhythms randomly and to arrange them in many different ways.

4/ A recent review quotes,"Soap Bubble factory features songs ranging from minimalistic soap pop ballads to distorted dancefloor smashhits and shows the ongoing promising development of Genevieve´s music."Is there a link between these apparent differences?

Yes, it´s always me. I never defined my music-style. I also don´t see myself as part of any scene. So you can say: my listeners will never know what I will make on my next release. But It will always be honest and pink ;-)

5/ How about a planned K6 compilation with one of your tracks?

Actually I only wanted to switch a record with Beta Evers. The next I remember was the offer to make a track for a compilation. (Editorial note: the label closed in December 2006, the compilation was cancelled)

6/ Musical tradition vs. non-tradition. Genre vs. Individuality: Where do you stand?

Inbetween and nowhere.

7/ What is the UMB Kollective?

This is a plattform for artists. At the moment there are THE MUSICK WRECKERS, GENEVIEVE PASQUIER, JÄGERBLUT, TONAL-Y-NAGUAL, DOGPOP, LAMBITANI.

It was actually made to give these projects a home and the possibility to make exchanges of music, personal interrests and knowledge. Or making collaborations. We also make releases, not very often but from time to time. At the moment we release the forthcoming Jägerblut – CD "1896-1906" and the debut CD of Tonal-Y-Nagual. Both will be out in March 2007. We also had concerts as UMB-Kollektif. Totally improved and live played gigs, where most of the members "conspired" to create an experience just for the moment.

8/ Recording on Ant-Zen,how does it feel? A recent review I read highlighted that your Ant-Zen release is unusual for the label- What are your thoughts?

It feels good, very familiar. There is always some tea and some cookies. Normally I don´t care about such things. Isn´t it nonrelevant on which label you are or if you fit in? The main thing is that you get a good deal and the possibility to release something generally.

9/ What would you most like to see occur for you in your musical career over the next five years?

Virgin Records!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10/ Have any hints on upcoming releases for us?'

I´ve planned my new release and I´m still working on it. But I guess it takes till December or so till it will be ready...

geneviéve pasquier's debut cd 'soap bubble factory' introduced this outstanding artist to listeners who do not have access to a record player (having a vinyl collection isn't expected anymore). now, after countless customers' requests, both geneviéve and ant-zen are presenting g.p.'s finest vinyl tracks on compact disc (for the first time). what you will find is the complete 'virgin thoughts' lp, three 7" tracks, 'fairy tale' from the split-10" with bastards of love, g.p.'s 'in stahlgewittern II' compilation contribution - and the previously unreleased 'blitzkrieg baby' (part 1 and part 2).

the style ranges from distorted noise-influenced industrial ('don't think i am...') to dark electro beats ('pulse'); also included is her take on a pop tune ('today the disco'). this retrospective shows geneviéve's artistic variety right from the beginning. the mastery of many electronic sound facets, combined with her exceptional voice - claiming, alluring, repelling, suspicious - was and will be g.p.'s trademark. all of this is perfectly displayed on this truly fine release.

  1. Please, introduce us Geneviève Pasquier in few words? What is your musical objectives?

Unkonventional – sexy - playful – pink – hard but warm – accented different – aggressiv – coquetry – ladylike – and somehow dreamlike.

I want to express myself and all that affecting me. My thoughts, my feelings, my soul- this is what my music expresses.

  1. Which are the main differences with Thorofon? How did happen the transition to a solo artist?

Beside the equipment à everything is different to Thorofon. There my job was mainly in the background and on stage.

Geneviéve Pasquier is my personal platform filled with my own experiences and ideas. The transition happened at the same time I joined Thorofon in 1999. This was the first time I came in contact with electronic music equipment and it was rather impressive what I was suddenly capable of doing with it. But it took 3 long years to explore the style I wanted to create which finally leaded to the "virgin thoughts" Debut LP in 2003.

Additional to that I could collect different experiences with collaborations of some projects like Thorofon, Jägerblut, Dogpop, Lambitani, The Musick Wreckers, Tonal Y Nagual and Bastards of Love.

  1. Successful first album "Virgin Thoughts" was only edit in vinyl. Why it was made in this format? Tell us about the persons who haven´t equipments to play it? Will this album issue in another format in the future?

The vinyl formate was for us the best solution at that time, and mainly made for the industrial-scene which prefered vinyl releases rather than CD´s.

Therefore I had more place for those "gimmicks" like the poster or the clear vinyl , which transportet the "virgin thoughts" idea perfectly.

But don't worry, for thosepeople who doesn´t own that old fashioned record players:

The time for waiting is over now, throw away all your bad ripped MP3´s. I finally decided to re-release the first album plus some tracks of my 7" and 10" releases, a compilation-track and 2 new songs. It will be released on Ant-Zen in octobre 2006.

  1. Why "Soap Bubble Factory"? Is there a special reason for this curious album´s name; isn´t there?

The whole album deals with the theme of humans, consuming, perfect styles, the total loose of values. We are thinking too less about who or what we are. We only live for the society and not for our own. We are fixed on the perfect day, work, man, girl, style and don´t know what we really want. What the meaning of our life is, or what we should do wisely with it.

It´s an album asking for what we´re existing. Asking questions and give some new ways to think about. And show the inner strife in life when you are confronted with them.

You can say that life is like a Soap bubble.

  1. Explain us the mix of sounds of Geneviève Pasquier? You sing in different languages and tones, unusual instruments and a mix of styles... Is an album really interesting and different, isn´t it?

I´m a big dreamer. I like to experiment with my Equipment and all stuff standing arround. I always arrange my Equipment in new ways and look what happens. It´s much fun. I´m singing in different languages because I like to try something new. Also new instrumentaions  and mixes and new tones are so exiting to work with. I like albums with different styles. I wont release an album where every song sounds the same way. I think this is boring to listen. I need songs wich are like a wave. Swelling, flowing and descending. A steady change of tempi, a developing of  moods and many facettes.

  1. Probably "Soap Bubble Factory" is one of the most "calm" álbum issued by Ant Zen. How do you see this?

Probably this is right.

I don´t think about such things. The work af Ant-Zen is good. They are a good label and an artist is in good hands.

  1. Geneviève Pasquier transpire sensuality musical and visual. Tell us a little about it?

Well, I think everybody knows I´m not the hard Industrial-girl. I´m not black, grey or brown. I´m the pink spot in a male world. The sensuality and feminin way of clothing, singing, moving- well that´s me. I´m only what I am.

  1. Which are your expectations for Machinenfest 2006? Tell us about your live performance?

I hope it will be big fun and to see many people I really like very much. And to meet new nice people. See good bands and have a good time.

The people will see me, a Theremin, my husband do the electronics, and maybe some or many soapbubbles.

Vielen danke for the interview... Any final message to fans and readers?

Thanks'! And for all of those who didn´t already bought the Soap Bubble Factory-CD a little poem:

Masculine pink Lady – androgyne young man

Come together and maybe – fuck as long they can!

15 Questions to Genevieve Pasquier

If I may speak freely (and utterly subjective) here, Thorofon were one of the last truly original Industrial bands - a collective capable of switching seemlessly between sweaty, brutal mechanical rock n roll and deep, soul-searching meditations. Now the group has officially been disbanded (not before exploding in a supernova of a double LP concept album), its members are looking for new ways of expression. Genevieve Pasquier has certainly found hers. Even though her discography starts much earlier, "Soap Bubble Factory", released by the renowned Ant-Zen label can in many ways be considered her true solo debut and features a unique style somewhere between electro, acid, trance and pop. There's so many sides to this work that it can be confusing at times, but everyone with patience will be rewarded with an eclectic, personal, energetic and timeless experience. And yet, this is only half-way near her vision of "chansons of the 20s, combined with the impulsive rock n roll of the 50s and a plethora of destructive frequencies" presented "in a breathtaking dress on a big open air stage." Expect her to keep working on this dream after finishing a reworking of her old Vinyl classics, to be published very soon. With the demise of Thorofon, something beautiful may have died. But Genevieve is definitely keeping the banner of originality held up high.

1) Hi! How are you? Where are you?
Hello to you, too! I am well, thanks for asking! And can you believe it: Im sitting behind my computer in my house in Bavaria on this planet in this universe somewhere in the void.

2) Whats on your schedule right now?
Not that much, really, answering some interview questions, enjoying my leisure and maybe work on some new songs. Oh, and for those who are interested: Ant-Zen decided to re-publish my Vinyl-releases as a sort of Best-Of. I am currently remastering some pieces, adding newly sung vocals.

3) What or who was your biggest influence as an artist? Do you see yourself as part of a certain tradition or as part of a movement?
Id like to mention my parents as the biggest influence. It was thanks to them that I got to know Kraftwerk, Jean Michelle Jarre, Pink Floyd and other similar bands at a young age. Didnt that just pave the way for how my life was going to be! One could say that they were slightly different. The more or less social environment certainly played a role as well. My fantasy, for a big part, which already got me into trouble in school. And finally, my husband, who showed me a new world in musical terms.

I dont think I conform or belong to any traditions, at the same time I dont think that Im part of some kind of new movement. What I do could just as well have been done 10, 20, 50 or even 100 years ago, if it had been possible at the time. Actually, I dont consider myself as part of any group at all, simply because I never had the right access to those scenes or bonds. Id like to keep things that way.

4) Whats your view on the music scene at present? Is there a crisis?

A crisis? Looking at it from a global perspective, Id say no. If related to certain scenes, maybe. And if there is, then theyre the ones to blame. Musicians and listeners alike were slowly but surely deterred by too many and too mediocre releases over the last few years it simply wasnt any fun any more. It got too easy to quickly burn some stuff on your home computer and then sell it as your new album. You can blame those musicians, who shit out a CD each month, thereby making it a terrifyingly hard task finding the really good stuff among the thousands of releases. There just isnt any functional filter any more, seperating the wheat from the chaff.

But lets get slightly more serious again everyone who wants to make music, should do so. Its just the way of the world, everything changes. Maybe for the good. Maybe for the bad.

5) What does the term new mean to you in connection with music?

Theres no such thing as new music! It basically always stays the same. Only time and arrangements change. Everythings been done before and if you listen carefully, youll quickly find the parallels. There were abstract compositions in Classical Music, then you had the futurists of the 20s, etc... And everybody gets influenced by this, everybody!

6) How do you see the relationship between sound and composition?
Either of the two cant exist without the other. It will only remain a sound or a tone, as long as it remains singular. Two noises or tones already constitute a minimal composition. And then its up to yourself, what to do with them or how complex to arrange them. Or would anyone like to disagree here?

7) How strictly do you separate improvising and composing?
Composing, in itself, is a way of improvising. You start with a tone and then go from there. What I try to do is to use different arrangements, sequences and harmonies in order to create a mood, which reflects my own at the time. Sometimes, I will start with a certain theme and prepare a pool of sounds and lyrics, mirroring it in the best possible way. Making music, to me, is an expression, a sort of feeling, which I translate into sound. Really composing in a concerted way would imply a certain coolness of heart:  aa b aa b aa d b aaaa bb aaaa bb a b d aa b aa b aa bbbbbbbbb dd b a bb dd .... My god, itd be so boring!

8) What constitutes a good live performance in your opinion? Whats your approach to performing on stage?
A good live-performance should visually present the music the best way possible. If I visit a concert, I want to be drawn in by whats happening on stage. And a good concert should always be honest.

For my music, a background video should work as an accompaniment and a support, but it should not act as the sole carrier of the music. I mostly focus on my voice during concerts, on little gestures and facial expressions, which go along with the music. I am not a person of grand gestures. Simply because were pretty active live, pieces can sound quite different, which brings us back to the question of improvising. Its the overall-picture that matters.

9) A lot of people feel that some of the radical experiments of modern compositions can no longer be qualified as music. Would you draw a border and if so, where?
The way I see it, everything which has to do with sounds and noises is music in some way or the other. You can call it sound art or experimental music. There will always be at least one listener, wholl consider it music and if only the composer himself. Music knows no boundaries, only the human mind does, or its threshold of tolerance.

10) Are serious and popular really two different types of music or just empty words without a meaning?
Its all just empty words. Serious music, popular, succesful I mean, these are just questions of image and marketing. The clothes you wear, the video clip you shoot and the label youre on can be helpful in this regard. On a social level, the border between the genres runs from the academics onwards. Popular music stays in the charts. And what about good music? Who knows?

11) Do you feel an artist has a certain duty towards anyone but himself? Or to put it differently: Should art have a political/social or any other aspect apart from a personal sensation?
Art und music are free forms of expression. Everything should be allowed as long as it doesnt get abused as propaganda.

12) True or false: People need to be educated about  music, before they can really appreciate it.
The fundamental things in education happen between the age of two and six. Looking at it from this perspective, one would have to influence the subconscious for that. I doubt whether thats the right way.

I am, however, in favour of allowing everyone capable of making up his or her own mind to inform him- or herself about the current musical styles. The internet has made this thoroughly possible, but education in schools should consist of more than just Mozart and Beethoven as well. Its rarely that one finds out about contemporary music and mostly it ends with Jazz or Pop. Musical education is always 50 years behind. What a pitty!.

13) Imagine a situation in which thered be no such thing as copyright and everybody were free to use musical material as a basis for their own compositions would that be an improvement to the current situation?.
It wont make too much of a difference, whether copyright gets lifted or not. Its either that were marking time or there are more and more bad cover versions. Using certain basics is a nice thing, in a way, but it also seduces one to just take something old and leand it a new face. On the other hand, it doesnt really matter for the underground. Noone cares if anyone should steal some notes from Herbert Grönemeyer (Germanys biggest pop/rock star) or not.

14) You are given the position of artistic director of a festival. What would be on your program?
If possible, Id prefer a mix. Doris Day accompanied by the Einstürzende Neubauten, SPK in the original line-up of 1981, using contemporary instruments. Jean Michel Jarre performing Equinoxe, Frank Sinatra should be around as well. Ahh... you could start dreaming....

15) Many artists dream of a magnum opus. Do you have a vision of what yours would sound like?
Itd be nice using the old recording equipment, like old amplifiers and microphones. My dream of an epic would be a perfect symbiosis between chansons of the 20s, combined with the impulsive rock n roll of the 50s and the plethora of destructive frequencies of already existent instruments, as well as some new entrants. Presented in a breathtaking dress on a big open air stage. Simply the condensed beautiful, intense vocals with the enormously charged rhythms and the simply congenial rock guitars and their full force of destruction. It would be a dream being able to work with this and to explore the full range of instruments and styles, to be able to experiment and to tap everything out to full potential, thereby creating something new and getting lost in a new world.

Lovely sounds, which destroy themselves just like myself.
