* The main event saw The Sandman defeat Jake "The Snake" Roberts. After the match, The Sandman challenged Teddy Fine at the next show in September for the PWU World Title. Diamond Dallas Page was also announced for the September show as he will team up with John McChesney & Johnny Kashmere.

ROH – Night One – Canadian Debut

* Larry Sweeney helped Chris Hero get the big boot in on Ruckus for the win.
* Delirious used the cobra stretch to get Kenny Omega to tap in his ROH debut.
* Sara Del Rey used her size in this domination of Jennifer Blake. After the match, Sara was trying to injure Jennifer, but Daizee Haze made the save.
* Erik Stevens and Go Shiozaki went back and forth. With about 10 seconds left in the match, Shiozaki superplexed Stevens off the top rope. He couldn't get the pin in time. Crowd chants "five more minutes." Larry Sweeney tells the crowd that Shiozaki doesn't work for free and to get more minutes they would all have to pony up ten dollars each. This brought out Lance Storm. He told Sweeney to stop running his mouth. ROH is about honor, not the dollar. He told Sweeney if he doesn't like it, to take a hike. Chris Hero comes in from behind and attacks Storm. Eventually Stevens and Storm got the Canadian Maple Leafs on Hero and Shiozaki.
* Claudio Castagnoli used the big swing and several arm bar submission moves against Bryan Danielson. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Danielson was able to roll-up Claudio for the win.
* Marufuji hit his Shiranui to finish off Roderick Strong.
* Kevin Steen used everything he had, including a moonsault off the top rope to a Nigel McGuinness who was outside of the ring. It wasn't enough as Nigel McGuinness was able to hit several lariats in a row to defeat Steen.
* No DQ Tag Team match between the champions, Age of the Fall (Tyler Black & Jimmy Jacobs) and Austin Aries & Jay Briscoe. The match was in and out of the ring. Mark Briscoe returned from his hand injury. Necro Butcher came out to help the Age of the Fall. Jay finally got the pin after hitting the Jay Driller.

Ring Of Honor – Night Two – PPV Taping from Detroit – Huge Crowd on hand

* Age of the Fall open the show with Jimmy Jacobs on the mic telling everyone that they have the power and they refuse to defend the belts tonight. The Briscoes hit the ring and chase away the Age of the Fall right into the waiting Austin Aries.
* The Briscoes squash Mitch Franklin & Silas Young
* Erick Stevens won a four-way over Ruckus, Delirious & Shane Hagadorn.
* Austin Aries comes out and wants Jimmy Jacobs alone. In Age of the Fall style, Tyler Black and MsChif attack him from behind. Jimmy finally comes out with a large hook. This brings out pretty much the entire locker room to break up the fight. Kevin Steen grab the mic and demands a tag title shot now, but instead gets attacked by the Necro Butcher.
* This brawl ended with Kevin Steen using his Package Piledriver on Nerco.
* Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli for the World Championship with the fans squarely behind Claudio. Nigel used Alex Shelley's Skull F'er and got the "you're not Shelley" chant. He spent some time taunting Bryan Danielson. In the end, Nigel hit the Rebound Lariat to retain the title. After the match Nigel told Claudio he finally proved to him he is championship material and wanted to have him join his alliance. Claudio looked at him in disgust and walked out of the ring.
* Silas Young hit a moonsault on Kenny Omega for the win. Both got the "please come back" chant.
* Larry Sweeney comes out to get Marufuji to join Sweet N Sour. For his attempt, he gets the middle finger from Marufuji. Lance Storm comes out and informs Sweeney that he will be the special enforcer to keep him in line. Roderick Strong & Marufuji go on to defeat Go Shiozaki & Chris Hero. After the match Storm raises Strong hand only to be jumped from behind by Sweeney. Storm eventually gets the Canadian Maple Leaf locked on to Sweeney until Hero nails Storm from behind. Huge "One More Match" chant for Lance Storm.
* I don't think there is anyone more flexible than Tyler Black. He proved it when Bryan Danielson twisted his arm in every possible direction during this match. Tyler showed his strength while in an armbar, picked up Danielson and hurled him into the corner with a powerbomb. It was so strong that the top turnbuckle broke. The place went nuts as the two finished the final five minutes with the top rope broken. Danielson gets the win.
* Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs are killing each other. They brawl all over. Near the merch area a 20-ft ladder is brought into the mix. They fight each other all the way to the top. "Please Don't Die" chant erupts. Nerco Butcher comes out with a chair. Both men are yelling at him to hit the other. Necro throws down the chair and starts to walk away. He changes his mind and pushes the ladder over as both men go flying to the ground and smash through tables. Nerco tells them he doesn't need either of them.
* 20-Man Honor Rumble with the winner getting a title shot. The bottom rope is moved to the top. Bobby Dempsey is the first out, Larry Sweeney tells him to just ball up like a turtle in the corner. He does. Claudio gets announced but never comes out. Bushwacker Luke lasts only a few seconds as he is tossed. Sara Del Rey uses Dempsey as a shield. Nigel enters himself so no one can get a title shot. When the dust settled, Ruckus tosses out Nigel and gets himself a title shot on August 2nd in Virginia.

IWA Mid-South

* Show opens with all the wrestlers around the ring and Ian Rotten inside talking about Rollin Hard.
* Michael Elgin knocked out Jimmy Clough
* Sami Callihan over Egotistico Fantastico
* Two Cold Scorpio comes out and says he was wrong to align himself with BLKOUT. He has seen the error of his ways. He respects Mickie and wants to actually have a wrestling match with her when she is healed. Then he defeats Jason Quick.
* Trevor Murdock hits people hard. Insane Lane felt every blow that Murdock laid upon him. This was not your WWE Trevor in the ring. Murdock wins with atop-rope bulldog.
* Jason Hades defeated Prince Mustafa Ali
* Toby Klein & Deranged won a three-way death tag match.
* IWA announced that the two shows over Labor Day weekend in Sellersburg, Indiana will benefit Rollin' Hard and his family.

Showtime All-Star Wrestling from Millersville, Tennessee

* Rick Santel with his manager Paul Adams, defeated Jeff Jamison with the Santel Slam. After the match, the head of the A-Team, Paul Adams added David Young as his fourth member. David Young was going to be the problem solver. He also mentioned that he doesn't care who wins between Kid Kash and Jerry Lynn because Santel will defeat them for the title.
* Chrisjen Hayme used a hanging spinning DDT and a 450 splash to defeat Tatsu
* Kid Kash retained the SAW International Title when he and Jerry Lynn went to a 15 minute draw. Kash spent most of the beginning of the match stalling. When the crowd chanted for five more minutes, Kash wanted nothing to do with it. The audience started to throw stuffed chickens at Kash. Lynn told Kash that the next time they meet, it will have no time limit.
* Arrick Andrews defeated David Young via DQ when both Santel and Adams started to beat on Andrews. The Tribal Nation came out for the save.
* Tribal Nation (Lennox Lightfoot & Indian Outlaw) won by DQ over the A-Team's tag team of the Tennessee Violence Authority (Hammerjack & Matt Dillinger) when both Adams and Santel interfered. Andrews came out to help even the odds but the show ended with Dillinger nailing the Tribal Nation and Andrews with his pool cue.

Northern Impact Wrestling from the streets of St. Paul

* Arik Cannon and Benjamin Sailer's match did not stay in the ring. Did not stay in the wrestling area. It spilled out into the streets. They stopped traffic as they pounded on each other at the Rice Street Festival. They even fought right in front of a police officer in his car. Sailer hit his La Majistral cradle to win the match.
* The Black Stallion used a power slam to defeat Daivari
* This match also went into the streets and around the black as Pete Huge defeated Ryan Cruz
* Kamikaze Klecker and Nate Bash battled for the belt called "Start Drinking At Noon And Get Drunk At Some Bar On The East Side Of St. Paul Middleweight Title." It consisted of a leather belt with aluminum beer can running with the belt running through them. Nate Bash won the match and told the crowd he was going to retire the title because he needed the belt to hold up his pants.

Florida Championship Wrestling – Tampa

* FCW already made an announcer change as Todd Grisham is gone and Brian Kelly now will be calling the action with Dusty Rhodes.
* FCW Tag Team Champions Eddie Colon & Eric Perez defeated Vic Adams & Charles Evans. Adams & Evans are a larger version of Cryme Tyme
* Drew McIntyre over Heath Miller with a fall away slam into an X Factor.
* Afa Jr. over Colt Cabana. Afa is turning into a Umaga clone. Colt is using a combination of the European style and comedy. Afa hit Colt with flying splash.
* Six man tag match with a bunch of people and Mike Kruel. Gabe Tuft got the victory for his team.
* Maria comes out. Batista gets introduced. Sheamus comes out and is sick and tired of all these superstars coming to take away his spotlight. He pushes Batista which caused a smile from the animal. Then a boot to the belly and gets him ready for the bomb, but Sheamus escapes. Armani Lee is outside of the ring and throws Sheamus back into the ring which Batista spinebusters him.
* Announced next week that Mickie James, MVP & Kane will be on the show.
* Tyrone Jones squashed Lupe Martinez. After the match Tyrone says he is there to destroy FCW
* Joe Hinnig used the perfectplex to defeat Jay Bradley
* In a diva tag team match, the Bella Twins defeated Alicia Fox & Roucka via DQ. Nattie Neidhart attacked the twins causing the DQ.
* FCW Champion Jake Hager hit a modified Blue Thunder Driver from the top rope to defeat TJ Wilson.
* "The Natural" Nick Nemeth & Shawn Spears had to face the Hardy Boys. The place went crazy for the Hardys. The match started off, back and forth. Lots of near falls from both sides but after a hot tag by Jeff, Matt cleaned the house and then hits a twist of faith and Jeff hits the swanton and that was all they needed.

  • Bump machine Evan Bourne returned and even got some "Sydal" chants during the match.  This match was all Afa Jr.  Bourne got in a few kicks and then went to hit the shooting star but missed.  Afa picked him up and hit an inverted F-5 for the win.
  • Chris Jericho comes out and tells everyone that they don't deserve to cheer him.  Everyone in the building are a bunch of liars and hypocrites.  He brings out a wrestler who has a bright future.  Nick Nemeth.  He also brings out Joe Hennig.  He tells Joe that he has to choose a path.  Listen to him or all the liars and hypocrites.  Joe chooses not to listen to Jericho.  This makes him mad, so Jericho and Nemeth put the beat-down on Hennig.
  • Another 6-man with a bunch of people who all look a like and was pretty boring.
  • Kelly Kelly comes out and puts over the FCW Divas.  They have a twist off and it turns in a big cat fight.

JAJOUKA'S NOTES....

  • I had the chance to talk to people who saw Mickie today.  She is in a lot of pain.  The surgery took a little longer than normal due to the amount of muscle mass in Mickie's legs.  The muscles spasmed after the break and caused he bones to slide past each other.  The doctors had to stretch the bones back into place in order to insert the titanium rod.  Doctors expect Mickie to walk out of the hospital tomorrow.  She already had her first Physical Therapy session today and is allowed to eat food again.  They feel she should be back in the ring anytime between three and six months.  Even though she is in pain, when she found out that a video on YouTube of the injury, she wants to kick the person's arse for illegally doing a digital recording at an IWA show.  So watch out, Mickie on one good leg will still kick everyone's arse.  Ian Rotten has spoken to Terry Taylor who in return spoken with Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett and they've assured him that she will not lose her spot and look forward to her return.  Get well Mickie, you are indeed one of the good guys in this business.  I can't wait to see you perform soon!
  • Cheerleader Melissa is once again registered for the AIDS Walk in ....San Francisco.....  She has set a very ambitious fundraising goal.  Right now she has raised $725 dollars on her goal of $1000 dollars.  If you'd like to be a sponsor, you can visit her AIDS Walk page by clicking on this link.  AIDS Walk Link

RESULTS....

Shimmer – Volumes 19 & 20 recorded on July 5th....

  • Two dark matches prior to the tapings occurred and dubbed, Sparkle Dark Match.  Match One saw Jordan McIntyre defeat T.D.
  • The second dark match was a very nice pairing of Egotistico Fantastico and Jeff Brooks.  Both men can do the high-flying or the ground & pound styles of wrestling.  It was a treat to see both of them come out and work a comedy style match.  It all started out with announcer Joey Eastman letting people know that it was a 10 minute time limit with five minutes remaining prior to the match starting.  WWE dropped the ball on Ego as he got the win over Brooks.
  • Now time for the taping of Volume 19.  The show opened with a Shimmer Battle Royale with the winner having a title shot later in Volume 19.  Every thirty seconds you'll get another lady coming.  The crowd went crazy for Lufisto and she and Cheerleader Melissa had a great forearm battle in the middle of the ring.  Sara Del Rey brought her more violent style into the ring.  You can't forget the power and dominance of the Amazing Kong.  One point she military press Portia Perez out of the ring.  Unfortunately for Kong, having her back turned to Princess Ariel, she and others quickly flipped her out of the ring.  The end of the match had Jetta, Sara Del Rey, Nikki Roxx, Mercedes Martinez and Ariel left in the ring.  Sara tossed out Nikki and Mercedes and Ariel came up behind Sara and used her momentum to toss her out.  This left Jetta and Ariel left in the ring.  Jetta placed Ariel on the top turnbuckle and still upset from her elimination; Sara pulled Ariel down to the floor and started yelling at her for costing her chance at getting the belt back.  The ref didn't see this happen, but when he turned around he saw Ariel on the floor and awarded Jetta the winner.  Sara continued to attack Ariel by throwing her into the barricade.  The assault ended when the referees were able to force Sara to the back.
  • Daizee Haze was out and announced that she injured her ribs during the week during a training session and will have to miss her first Shimmer taping.
  • Portia Perez power bombed Shark Girl out of the corner after Shark Girl got the ten punches in the corner.  Perez got the win with a little help of her feet on the ropes.
  • Serena Deeb first time back since being under the knife defeated Danyah with her breathtaking spear.
  • Ashley Lane & Neveah hit the single legged dropkick/flatliner combo to defeat Cat Power & Veronica Vice.
  • Lorelei Lee had the unfortunate opportunity to be sacrificed to the angry Amazing Kong.  She did get a couple of moves in, but two hard backhands and a spinning back fist got Kong the win.  Lorelei suffered a jaw injury from the match.
  • Nikki Roxx got a huge pop from the crowd in her singles return to Shimmer.  She used her Barbie Crusher on Nicole Matthews for the win.
  • Allison Danger got the rollup on Jennifer Blake.  After the match, Allison got on the mic and told the crowd that Jennifer is the greatest young Canadian talent she has seen in some time.  Cue the music and out comes Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews.  Perez was upset by Danger's comments and that she and Matthews hold that distinction.  She also called Danger a "Diet Canadian."
  • LuFisto got the huge "welcome back" chant and used her burning hammer to get the win over Rain.
  • Sara Del Rey ambushed Ariel as soon as she walked through the curtain.  She hit stiff kicks and torturous submission holds in the new Sara attitude.  Ariel got a few moves in during the match and climbed to the top rope for a cross body, but was caught in midair by Sara and then put her in the Royal Butterfly for the win.
  • When these two meet up, they put on a woman's match that is like none other.  Mercedes Martinez and Cheerleader Melissa just beat on each other like there will be no tomorrow.  Brutal strikes and a ton of finisher reversals.  Finally Mercedes succeeded in hitting the fisherman buster for the win.
  • Final match of Volume 19 saw Shimmer champion MsChif defend the title against Jetta.  There was a lot of screaming from MsChif and Jetta being startled by them.  Jetta got some big moves in and had the opportunities for the win, but MsChif hit the Desecrator for the win.
  • Shimmer Volume 20 started with Veronica Vice's first singles match against Shark Girl.  Shark Girl with the stunner for the win.
  • Allison Danger teamed up with Jennifer Blake to take on the "Canadian Ninjas," Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews.  Both ladies had matching T-shirts with, "Just To Let You Know, I Am A Ninja."  Portia informed everyone that she is now the master of avoiding the body slam.  She will be putting up one thousand Canadian dollars on the line if Danger could body slam her within the first minute of the match.  With that she tagged out right away and stayed on the floor until the minute was up.  When Danger and Perez were in the ring together, Perez worked on the arm and collarbone that Danger separated a few months ago.  Perez locked on the Fujiwara armbar for a submission win.
  • The next Amazing Kong sacrifice came in the way of Danyah.  She did get some offense in, but tried to hit the fireman's carry on Kong.  Power bomb by Kong.
  • Cat Power went right after the injured knee of Daffney.  She got the submission win with the figure four leglock.
  • The International Home Wrecking Crew came out with T-Shirts which depicted Lacey as a missing person on the side of a milk carton.  Jetta & Rain defeated the Ohio Blondes of Ashley Lane & Neveah when Rain used the tights to pin Neveah.
  • Positive chants for both of the next two happened throughout the match.  Even a chant of "Cheer for both!" happened.  Ariel took on Nikki Roxx.  Ariel got a surprise roll-up for the victory.
  • It took a lot for Sara Del Rey to final finish off the smaller Serena Deeb.  Sara focused on the arm in the first part of the match.  She then hit the Tree of Joey Lawrence and a hard kick to the knee, she changed her focus and started working over her knees.  Serena got the ball rolling in her favor but went charging for Sara but she moved out of the way and Serena went all the way to the floor.  Del Rey went out and hit a Dragon Screw into the guard rail.  Sara rolled back into the ring waiting for the count-out victory.  Serena got back in at nine and nine tenths.  Sara won with a leg submission.  This was a match of the night for a lot of people. Serena took a beating and just kept coming back.
  • If the Mercedes & Cheerleader match from Volume 19 was hard-hitting.  This made that match look like a pillow match.  LuFisto taking on Cheerleader Melissa had to follow probably the match of the night.  Well, they took the honors of match of the night as they threw everything at each other.  Melissa got wheelbarrow whipped in the guardrail.  This match had the right balance and build to any match you could ever dream of seeing on TV.  Cheerleader Melissa got the win and could easily be one of the best woman's matches in years.
  • After two incredible matches, the main event was still to come with Mercedes Martinez getting the shot at the Shimmer Champion MsChif.  MsChif screams at Mercedes and she gouges her eyes.  This match had the two trying to set up each other's big move.  Finally Mercedes hit two spinebusters but it was MsChif's desecrator that was the one move that resulted in a three count.  The last three matches proves that the women can wrestle just as good if not better than the men on TV.

  BMF Wrestling from ....Lafayette.., ..Indiana........

  • In a very bizarre main event.  The BMF All-Invitational Champion Billy Roc faced the larger Osyris.  Osyris and Lawrence Poffo came out with American Flags, claiming that Billy Roc's little secret was, he is a Communist.  Roc fought and fought, but the big man was too much.  Osyris won the title and continued to hurt Billy.  He used him as a lawn dart and tossed him into the ring post which put a huge gash in his forehead.  Osyris continued to hurt Billy Roc and laid-out over a dozen wrestlers who tried to come to his aid.  Even when the ..EMT..'s came to the building to help Billy, they were unable to, until PT Hussla & Brian Roberts came out swinging chairs and chased Poffo & Osyris out of the building and into their cars.  The place got very quiet as the ..EMT..'s worked on Billy Roc.  He was placed in a neck brace and then onto the stretcher and taken to the hospital.
  • It got stranger while the ..EMT..'s were working on Billy, the place was somber with sounds of people weepeing including Billy's wife who had rushed to the ring to check on Billy.  There has been no update on Billy's condition at this time.

IWA Mid-South from ....Joliet.., ..Illinois........

  • Jeff Brooks defeated T.D. with a shooting star press.  After the match, Ian got into the ring and stopped Jeff Brooks and said, "I have an invitation for you."  The crowd was a little shocked by this.  He then said, "I'm just kidding, get the hell out of here."  The crowd went crazy.  He then turned to T.D. and said he was going to make T.D. his pet project and make him a star.
  • Joey Eastman come out to the ring and welcomes himself back to the IWA Mid-South.  The crowd really doesn't like Joey.  He also tells everyone that he has acquired the services of Prince Mustafa Ali.
  • This brings the six-man tag match with Ali teaming up with Troy Walters and Ricochet teaming up to take on Team Ja(y)son (Hades, Quick & Dukes).  Crazy dives including Quick doing a 900 off the top rope.  Hades was setting up Ali for the Killswitch when Quick came flying over the top rope and hit a flying kick to Hades.  Ali then hit him with the Weapons of Mass Destruction (inverted 450) for the win.  After the match Ian took a survey to see who thought they were going to see Jason Quick's brains all over the floor, everyone raised their hands.  Ian also announced that Ricochet was invited into the TPI and that his first round match would be against the defending champion Mike Quakenbush.
  • Drake Younger and Sami Callaham brawled all over the building, but Drake got the win with the Drake's Landing onto a chair.
  • Kimberly Kash was the substitute opponent for Daffney as the IWA Mid-South Women's Champion Daizee Haze is out with an injury.  Daffney said she would return to take the belt off of Daizee when she is healthy.  Daffney used the hammerlock Northern Lights suplex for the win.
  • A moonsault from the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Champion Dingo put away the former two-time champion Chuck Taylor.
  • Sex, Drugs & Wrestling (Ash & Kris Chambers) defeated the Naptown Dragons (Scotty Vortekz & Dustin Lee)
  • Michael Elgin took on Egotistico Fantastico in which both guys went toe to toe.  Ego blocked ....Elgin....'s first attempt at the ground and pound.  Ego went for a double springboard moonsault when ....Elgin.... moved out of the way and then hit him with the ground and pound for the win.  Jeff Brooks ran in and attacked ....Elgin...., but he was not very successful.  Scotty Vortekz then ran out and attacked Fantastico.  He kept yelling that "Scotty Does Know!" while attacking him.  Ego's entrance music has a line in it that say's "Scotty knows what's up."
  • The main event 30 minute Iron woman match between Sara Del Rey and Mickie Knuckles went to a no contest due to the leg injury that happened to Mickie.

International Wrestling Cartel from ....Ellsworth.., ..Pennsylvania........

  • Josh "don't call me Abercrombie" Raymond defeated Christian Able.
  • The Balds beat up Michael Façade prior to rolling him into the ring so Jason Bane could hit him with a modified F5 for the win.  Troy Lords came out with a chair, but Bane took care of him.
  • Shark Boy used his Stone Cold Chummer for a win over Bubba the Bulldog.
  • The Best Around put up a great fight, but the double superkick by the Motor City Machine Guns was just too much as the MCMG's got the win.
  • Larry Sweeney didn't like his entrance music and demanded some classic rock or disco for a dance off against his opponent Super Hentai.  Flock of Seagulls' "I Run So Far Away" was played and in the end of the dance off, Sweeney bowed to the winner, Super H.  Winner to get a shot at the Super Indie Champion Jerry Lynn.  Super H. got the win and will be facing ....Lynn.... on August 2nd.
  • The John McChesney versus Ricky Reyes match saw a ref bump.  This allowed the heavyweight champion Dennis Gregory to hit the ring with the belt.  McChesney held up Ricky for Dennis to hit with the belt.  Dennis missed Ricky and hit John.  Pissed off, Dennis left the ring and Ricky took advantage and got the pin.
  • Because this was an outdoor show, there was noise from a battle of the really crappy cover bands going on down the road at the fair.  At one point during a really horrid song, Dennis Gregory hit a move on Delirious.  The song stopped and Gregory said that the move was so good, they had to stop playing.  Gregory got the win and kept the heavyweight title.  He got on the mic and said there is no one left to fight which Reyes hit the ring and got him in the triangle choke.  John McChesney also came out and told him that there is someone left.
  •  Sexual Harassment defeated the Family in the main event.  The losing team had to go to the dunk tank.  More brawls and eventually people got dunked.

Pro Wrestling Guerilla from Reseda, ....California....

Wednesday, July 02, 2008
I sit looking for something to write about when I stumble across the list of today's birthdays. Can you believe that one Scott Garland (aka Scotty 2 Hotty) turns 35 today. ..Thanks to Scotty, today we have the one wrestling move that still makes me scratch my head and say why? Yes he does the WORM. Working for the WWE, he was a two-time tag team champion, one-time light heavyweight champion and one-time tag team champion. Currently he is taking independent bookings. End of this month you'll be able to see his debut with Full Impact Pro in the Tampa area and shows for the Eastern Pro Wrestling on July 31st in Plymouth, Massachusetts. That show will also feature Jerry "The King" Lawler and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. If you're at Disney World today, I'm sure you'll be running into Scott and his family as he is a huge Disney World fan.

"Little Naitch" was also born on this day. He is referee Charles Robinson from the WWE. He got his nickname for being such a huge Ric Flair fan. He wrestled a few times for the WCW and basically was a Ric Flair clone. He had the robe, he had the "woooo" and he used every dirty trick that Flair would use. He had two matches since his second match he was severly injured by Randy Savage on a botched elbow drop in which several of his vertebrae were cracked along with a collapsed lung. He is currently off of WWE TV since he got beat up by the Great Khali on Smackdown a few weeks ago.

  • I watched the train wreak called Orlando Jordan and the Ultimate Warrior.  There was so much ring-rust on the Warrior that he feared his car might rust during the match.
  • Shimmer – Shimmer – Shimmer this weekend in Chicago.
  • I'm so happy to have seen Samoa Joe & CM Punk in their indie days.  Now he wants to see Colt Cabana or Matt Classic on the TV set.  Support the indies, cause you'll never know which one of those performers will one day be the World Champion.

Current mood:  happy
Category: Music

It is my yearly trek to the great music conference called SXSW.  In the past years I've spent hundred's of dollars on a pass that would get me into everything.  Sometimes I would spend around a hundred dollars for the wristband that would not gaurentee me entry to a venue, but if I arrive early enough I might get in.  A few years back I started to notice a trend of free parties happining during the day.  Over the next couple of years I watched as I could see a lot of the bands playing SXSW for free, during the day!  This is the year I go free.  Especially when the wristbands can only be sold to someone and that someone has to be in line.  Plus they are now going for $175 dollars!

Day one of the festival has come to an end for me.  It is only begining for those who paid for their badge or wristband.  Will I see enough music to make my "no-cost" approach to the conference worth my time?  Today was a great start.  Just needed to go to one location for a few hours worth of music.  Mother Egan's was the place to kick off 2007 SXSW.

Walked in the tent located outside of the bar, Michelle Shocked just walked onto the stage.  This is a great way to start off any festival.  I've been a huge fan ever since I heard Texas Campfire Tapes.

Since it was lunchtime, I headed into the pub to sit at a table and get some good 'ol traditional Irish food.  I've never had anything at Mother Egan's that wasn't delicious.  Today I was in the mood for some Corn Beef & Cabbage!  After washing this down with a nice pint of Guinness, I was ready for some marathon set of music in the tent.

David Olney was the first to take the stage.  I've not ever heard of him before, but when Jon Dee Graham calls him the most dangerous songwriter, that got to be something.  He took a little blues and a little folk and mixed in some great stories to make his set just fly by.  I became a fan.

You can't go to Austin and not see Jon Dee Graham.  He is what Austin music is all about, gritty, bluesy and downright nasty.  He can play slow, he can play hard and he can play rock in an oversized, puffy sweater.  He is a staple of my SXSW trips every year.  I don't think there is a year I've not seen him play.

Being in Texas, you can't escape the fact that country music is part of life down here.  So from time to time I've had the opportunity to see some of the legends play here.  Most of the time they're in town to try something new.  This time I get to see the legendary Pam Tillis.  She called her music, Kentucky bluegrass.  Putting her voice behind some original bluegrass made for an enjoyable set.

James McMurtry has been on major labels.  He can sell out shows wherever he goes.  He will say things in his lyrics you wish you've said yourself.  He is one of the most political songwriters out there today.  He usually rocks out on stage with a full band but today it was just James and a 12-string guitar.  He played it lick a whole band was on stage with him.  If you get the chance, pick up a live CD or see him.  Well worth the money!

A legend from the punk days, Tommy Ramone, is in town to promote his new band.  He was the drummer for the Ramones.  Now he fronts a band called Uncle Monk.  If you were expecting some classic punk, you will be sad.  He has changed his drumsticks for a mandolin.  He has gone bluegrass.

One of the other bands I couldn't wait to see is The Silos.  I got the album Cuba, oh so many decades ago and flip for these guys.  They cut their teeth in Austin and move to NYC to make it big.  Now they return with a new album on one of my favorite labels, Bloodshot Records, called Come On Like The Fast Lane.  To make things go over the top, Jon Dee Graham played lead guitar!  This set was loud.  This set was rockin'.  This was the perfect way to end day one at SXSW.

It is just after 8pm here in Austin.  All the wrist banded folks are just coming out to play.  I get to go to other parts of the city to have fun and relax before another round of afternoon fun in Austin.

It is time for another tour of the West Coast.

We start out in Los Angeles with the LA Book Festival. I had one goal. That goal to meet Craig Ferguson.

It would have been a great photo if I didn't have my out-of-control hair!

There is a band that plays from time-to-time at various book festivals.  Their name is Rock Bottom Remainders.  The group is a revolving door of authors trying to be rock stars!  They are good, not great, then again what do you expect from people who make their living writing!

Band members from left to right...Dave Barry's brother, Scott Turow, Amy Tan, Kathi Kamen Goldmark, Greg Iles, Roger McGuinn (of the Byrds), session drummer, Ridley Pearson, Dave Barry and Mitch Albom.

Next up...San Fransisco and Son Volt & The Drive-By Truckers at the Filmore.

Tonight I decided that if I had to do some work at home instead of being out having fun. I'm going to have an enjoyable enviroment to work in. I've transfered some of my CD collection to my home jukebox over the past year. So I turned on Marvin and let him pick the music. Yes, I named my computer/jukebox Marvin. Someday's he can be happy, but most days he picks sad songs. So I gave him a beer and told him to entertain me. He currently has 19,138 songs to choose from. Marvin must have good thoughts about Christmas, since he threw in a couple of them to keep me guessing on what his next choice might be! You can decide if he did a good job or not.
