Simple question: What''s news?

In Jan and Feb, 47 people were murdered in Philadelphia, 85% or more were minorities. Over 30 were gunshot deaths. Notice:

No Google news spread.
No sorrowful tales.
No front page story.

Two college caucasian girls and (Auburn and UNC) are murdered (with condolences to the families because their losses are real, however)... its big news.

Bottom line? People report what they believe people want to read about. And they are probably right. Notice how they seldom (never?) report the stories of the minorities in murders unless :
1. they did the murdering or
2. murders were in-mass and there happened to be minorities included.

Why? I can only surmise that the "majority" just... dont... care.

So what really IS news? I feel for these families, but do you guys have any idea how many funerals there were in (lets just say) East coast cities since valentines day? Crimes like this are not racial crimes. They are crimes enacted between the haves, and the have-nots. And many readers and decision makers in our "society" care only if the victim(s) looks like them.

So I ask again: what''s news?
