Current mood:  fermented
Hello pricks! Just kidding, hello Razors fans worldwide!  I'm Judy and I'm your answer to all things Pink Razors, exclusive for fans like us here on MySpace!  The guys/girl have seemingly been out of touch with their adoring public recently, causing many to speculate on the status of the band and their future.    Well, I managed to get guitarist/vocalist Jeff "Razor?" on the phone the other night to clear up some of these matters for my own sanity, and with his blessing I can now report back to you crazy kids here on MySpace!

As you may already know, drummer Adam Monroe fled Richmond last April, temporarily, for seasonal work in Zion National Park.  That's him currently pictured on this MySpace profile!  That log had fallen and was crushing a mother bear, but Adam's quick work was able to remove the log and save her.  The mother bear was so grateful that she took Adam back to her den and gave him a jar of honey!  I think I still see some honey stuck to his beard.  Nice saw, Adam!

Adam's departure came right after a zany 3 week tour and the recording of a smashing new album, but left the band inactive throughout the summer.  Then, as planned, Erin finished her second year in Richmond, and Jeff, his 17th. Perhaps feeling that Richmond's molasses pace was still a bit too fast, they moved to Bloomington, Indiana.  Jeff was happy to report that they are enjoying themselves in their new town and find themselves in good company!  Justin has been holding down the fort in Richmond, no doubt balancing his school and work schedule with fielding daily questions about the band.

In the interim, Jeff and Erin started working to produce the new Pink Razors record as their first release on their new label, Houseplant Records.  Recorded in early March, its genesis has been slowed by a few things:  a 3 week tour, a chunk of the record accidentally deleted, said chunk re-recorded, moving (on which Jeff commented "that shit takes a long time") and, in general, learning how to put out a record.  I'm happy to announce though that the record, titled "Leave Alive," should be available on 12" vinyl to us fans in Mid October, just before the Razors unite to play a show at The Fest 7 in Gainesville, FL.  "Odds of the Razors playing this date are 99%! Odds of us playing well, significantly lower," Jeff told me.

And finally, I was given a copy of the new album on the condition that I "don't play it for too many people yet."  I'm sure they won't mind my putting up just one song for you small group of loyal fans, so check out "Not The Wrong Son" here on Myspace!  I also added a deep cut from Waiting to Wash Up, the live-show mainstay "Summer Colds."  See you in the e-pit!

We are heading up to Philadelphia March 14 to play a show.  Then, the next day we will begin recording from March 15 -18 with Steve Roche at Permanent Hearing Damage.  We were intrigued mostly by his good looks, but also by his work with Armalite, Amateur Party, and finally convinced after my other band FOOD (I play drums) did our record with him.  "Affordable Analog Recording" are three convincing words too.

Depending on what we get finished before we go up there, this recording will take the shape of either a full-length 12" or a 10" record.  The plan is to release it ourselves and start some sort of record label because fuck it.

Then, the next day we'll continue on our first tour since last summer.  The dates are current on this profile.  This will be cool because we're going to some places we've never played (New Orleans, Austin, Denton, Birmingham, OK City, etc).   Also we're gonna play two shows in New York City because fuck it.

After that we'll have some crazy news so stay tuned.

Hopefully this isn't the place where you first hear this news, but our dear, close friend Jonny Z passed away early Monday morning. You can search for more details online from various news outlets, but you won't find anything that accurately describes what a huge loss this is to everyone who knew him.

Once, I remember being embarrassed when he overheard me describe him to an out-of-town friend as "the coolest kid in Richmond." I'm glad he heard me though, because I meant it. I feel lucky to have known him, and to have introduced him to people who would get to know him, and to have spent as much time with him as I did (though not nearly enough). I am glad that our old bands traveled together and that he was in this band (for about 6 months while Adam took a job in CA). We played a great house show in NYC after spending the day at Coney Island. I like that he was at my parents' house on multiple occassions and knows my entire family. I am thankful that he moved here with some of his high-school buddies and they integrated with me and my high-school buddies. Their stories from growing up are some of the funniest things in the world and make me feel like I was there. I am glad to have lived across the street from him for years and to currently be living in his old house where many late-night kitchen parties and front porch hang-outs took place. He was always the last one to bed and the first one awake. We worked together for a few years at 821 Cafe, where he would typically tell me funny stories while I washed dishes, his laughter being louder than mine and echoing through the kitchen. We took a trip to Ocean City, MD where he spent like 60 bucks on ninja turtles masks/gloves and demanded we take Polaroids wearing them on the beach (we did). These things only touch on my memories, and I am but one of hundreds of people who knew him.

He was the most fun, the most caring, the most generous. Sometimes he was the only one to make you a birthday card (and Xmas, Easter). Lucky for us, while he was here, Jonny couldn't stop creating and we have a lot to remember him by. He was the best around.

Original guitarist/second vocalist of this band, Mike Morris is leaving us, headed for the biggest city: New York City. Actually, he's already up there, managing farmers' markets and hiding his dog from his landlord. He'll be returning to town to finish up his last two local shows with us, April 15th and April 29th. We wish him good fortune and better pizza and know we'll still see each other on trips up and down the coast.

In the meantime, we've been practicing with our new guitarist, Erin Tobey, who will take his place on guitar/vocals. Erin is well-known as a solo-performer and also from the bands Abe Froman and Mt Gigantic, all of which we encourage you to check out. We are working out some old songs as well as writing new ones. Erin will be polishing her palm-muting skills while "guiding the band to ultimately sound exactly like Superchunk." Not so fast, Tobey!

We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition period.

HEY BLOG-READERS-

Our new 3 song 7" is out and available for sale at Rorschach Records online. We will have them on sale on our profile in about a week too. I think Rorschach has a deal where you can get our 7" and the new Brainworms CD for 10 bucks, roughly the price of a pizza (or two Little Caesar's Hot N' Ready's).

The truth is that it actually will improve your life.  When you first hold it in your hand you will smile - instantly making you more desirable toward whichever sex you prefer.  You will have more energy and sleep better at night with each 7" that you buy.  Just by laying the needle on that wax, you will immediately stop smoking cigarettes and eating trans fats.  So get a 7" for yourself (and one for your friend/neighbor/pet) .  WARNING:  Listening to 7" may cause negative side effects such as regret, loss of money/youth, and flooding.

I gotta wake up early tomorrow morning to drive to our private jet in Norfolk, VA - to fly all the way across the country in a matter of hours (science!).

I had great plans to write a really killer blog ("killer" being California slang) but like many things, it didn't happen. The blog was going to talk about tour and perhaps segue intohow I am really sick of Fall Out Boy, specifically, having to see them on this page every time I log in. But that's for another time I suppose.

So, this is just a little reminder to all you west coasters that you can come see us play LIVE by attending any one or more of the shows posted on our profile here. All the info is current and accurate to the best of my ability so help me god.
