My lastest album 'Dare To Be Different' is now available to purchase as a digital download in mp3 format. Straight to your iPOD or mp3 player There are several advantages to doing this: 1) It's cheaper for you! Obviously the most important thing....see number 5 for prices. 2) It removes the need for postage, packaging and courier pidgeons. (save the environment!!) 3)
You can purchase individual tracks, maybe just one or two songs. No
need to have all 12 songs, just get the ones you like best. Think of
the album as being 12 singles! 4) You can easily put them on your iPOD, in any order you like. Listen to them on the train and annoy other passengers. 5) It's cheaper! Did I mention that? $9.99 for the full album, $0.99 for one song only. Just click the link below.
ALBUM DOWNLOADS
*Simply select the songs you wish by ticking the boxes in the far right
hand column. Then click the orange bar bottom right that says 'download
selected songs'. To get the whole album click the oragne bar beneath
the album title. You will need to sign up to use the site, but this is
FREE and QUICK. Very similar to using iTunes or ebay.

A little while ago I was blown away to see my first fan film appear on youtube. In case you're wondering (and I was until recently) a Fan Film is where someone makes a visual 'tribute' to something they like. They are almost always amateur films and therefore not for commercial gain. Some people have made short 'adaptations' of their favourite films, eg: Lord of the Rings and in this case a friend of mine from Eastern Europe has made a Fan Film based on one of my songs. You can hear this song right here on my page, it's called 'I DON'T NEED (LOOK AT ME). The film is a combination of this song, and footage from the Final Fantasy X video game. If this sounds a little strange, wait until you see the film!!! Fan Film of SongYou will hopefully find, as I did, the brilliant way in which the video is edited to fit the music. In a way it's created a very moving animation for a very moving song. Have a look and see what you think! And please feel free to comment on the film on the youtube page.

One of my favourite tracks, and it would seem a few other people's too (!), has recently been featured on the web-based 'Ruta 66 Radio'. The song was featured on the week beginning August 22nd. As the site mainly plays classic rock, it was an honour as an independent artist to be featured alongside the likes of Lynard Skynard, Neil Young, Toto and Deep Purple on the same playlist. Check out the playlist on the link above. For fans of this genre of music it's a must! Thanks guys Paul

More albums....
THE CARDIGANS: LIFE (1995)
I think this is the Swedish groups' debut album, but I'm not sure. It's certainly before their biggest hits. Not that this is rubbish, far from it....it's delightfully quirky and kitschy. I love the way this album travels, you're never quite sure what's coming next. Strong melodies, then it suddenly veers off in a different direction. Very much enjoyed listening to this one. Highlights: 'Carnival' and 'Travelling With Charley'.
CATATONIA: PAPER, SCISSORS, STONE (2001)
It may not show in the songs I sing, but I love the late 90s era of female pop, of which the Welsh group were up there with the best. Cerys Matthews has a voice impossible to manufacture, I can almost smell the achohol fumes as she sings...
Unfortunately this album comes after their greatest moments, and shows the band lacking the energy, ideas and creativity. It's their forgotten record. Some songs have a bit of sparkle, and there's plenty of passion, but it's not the greatest. I like 'Stone By Stone' and 'Fuel' best. It's a shame they couldn't keep it together for longer.

It's been a while since I've had time to talk about anything I've been listening to lately, so here goes.... SHAWN COLVIN: COVER GIRL (1994) One of my favourite female artists made this album of mainly male cover songs. I'm not a fan of cover albums as I prefer to always hear what a singer-songwriter does best: perform their own songs. As the music industry became more conservative, more and more covers albums sprang up as safety became a key issue: it was less risky to have someone perform an already well-known song. This led to many disasters but as usual Shawn did it with a touch of class. Aside from her version of the Police song 'Every Little Thing (He) Does Is Magic' (which is still excellent) most of the songs are more obscure including songs by Steve Earle ('Someday') and Robbie Robertson ('Twilight'). There's also a great idea in including several live acoustic tracks to add variety amongst the studio cuts. I have the advantage of not knowing most of the original versions so can only go off what I hear: it's a lovely album. 'One Cool Remove' is one of my favourites, featuring Mary Chapin Carpenter on harmonies and Jim Keltner on drums. If I were writing for Q (God forbid) I'd be giving it 4 stars. * * * *

Thanks to the upping of the songs limit from 6 to 10, I've now been able to post even more songs, which means every time you open my page, it's like you can listen to a whole album's worth of songs! About the 3 new arrivals: COLD COLD DAY: Old fans' favourite, this is the re-mixed version by Ian Catt, the bassist and producer of St.Etienne (name dropping alert). IT WILL PASS: This is also from the 'Lost In Love Town' album and is a song about the darker side of urban life, the homeless etc.... I DON'T NEED (LOOK AT ME): Possibly my favourite ever composition, acoustic and piano ballad. One more to follow..... Please do let me know what you think, and add them to your players!
