My vote is for a food court... not the Battlefield Mall kind of food court, but the "Food Life" kind of food court: http://www.foodlifechicago.com/You? What would you like to see on the bottom floor of the Heers building?

The vast majority of retail stores and restaurants are closed on Sunday in downtown Springfield. That's my favorite day to go out to breakfast, casually shop, or and see a movie... but its a ghost town on Sundays. How about you? Do you think downtown should be open on Sunday? Do you think Monday is a better day for businesses to take the day off?!

Current mood: focused
I can't find any good resources online about this... that clearly spell out where we stand with the renovation of Park Central Square.
What I can figure out it this... and I could be totally wrong, but:
1) The City got some funds to renovate the Square. 2) Butler Rosenbury and Partners was hired to do the design. 3) In late 2007, there were a series of public meetings about what this new Square should look like. 4) Plans were revealed in Spring 2008... yeah... excitement. 5) Then a historical society somewhere outside of Springfield (anyone know the name?) said those plans wouldn't work because they included tearing down the fountain... and this was supposedly designed a famous architact named Lawrence Halprin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Halprin http://www.tclf.org/landslide/Park_Central_Square/mclaughlin_parkcentral.htm
6) Now we are in limbo waiting to see if the fountain is declared a historial site... all development plans are on hold.
What do you think?
Personally, I'd like us to move on to 21st Century design. The Square is ugly... could be great... I am not a big fan of the fountain. Not one of his best works, huh? Time to move on folks. But I am not an architecture afficionado either... and never have heard of Halprin.
Share you thoughts here... and be sure to take the poll on the left side of the Downtown Springfield MySpace. Thanks!
