We played a fantastic show (fun!) at the 100 Club in Collie on the weekend... It was the first time we’d played as a band since The Fairbridge Festival back in April. But it didn’t seem to matter - we had so much fun playing together and really rocked out. It is such a pleasure to be playing with Arun and Roy as a team... we all just seem to talk the same language musically speaking. Arun brings so much drive and energy and just all round good vibes - which makes three of us contributing in the same way. Love it. Jaimi opened the show with his band and totally blew people away. He is really cookin’ with his band. And a really top bunch of blokes too. He’ll be back in Dec some time to tour WA again. Thank you to the crew at the Cardiff Hall for the hospitality. We look fwd to playing there again soon!

Hi from Katherine, in the Northern Territory of Australia! I'm up here on a bit of a holiday from touring - and loving it despite the steamy temperature. I actually love the warm weather - it's about 35 most days and about 80 -90% humidity. Great stuff. makes you feel alive.
The recent gigs in Dunsborough, Albany and Redcliffe were so much fun and we played very well each gig. I was expecting the gig in Dunny to be a bit of a messy school leavers drunken night - having to please totally smashed people songs i don't really won't to play. But it was alright in the end - it was messy as you would expect in Dunny but they we all pretty well behaved. Not a particularly inspiring gig but worth stopping in to play. It was also a fantastic rehearsal for our fill in drummer, Arun, who played fantastically well despite not having played with us before.
Albany was a blast. It is always a blast down there. They just love their music and really get behind original music and especially those that bother to go down there and play. We've always had a good following in Albany - thank you!!! i'll be down there again soon - a lot sooner than a year - like last time. Once again Arun just shone like a true pro and we had a ball playing some old songs done with new flavour due to our new percussion man. His driving style made us pump all night... i think we ended up playing for 2 hours or more! straight through.
What a great old building the Vancouver Arts Centre is too... I believe it's an old hospital that been an arts centre for some time now. It's got such a great feel to it and the accom next door has the best view in Albany over the inlet and off in the distance is some magnificent wind turbines that hum away powering up albany with no smoke stacks. Love it.
Redcliffe. Well what can i say... You never know what sort of a gig were gonna do there - because you never know who might rock up and get up on stage with us. This time it was the very talented young Tim from You Me and Ryan. Great dude and fantastic keys player. Also Dan from the Sneaky Weasels jumped up on guitar too... Dave and Nicole, the owners there, are two of the most dedicated music loving people in the country - along with Big Mick. Actually there is a whole bunch of music loving crew out there but some just LOVE IT. Dave and Nicole put on some great acts there down at Redcliffe and they also do a great feed there on the Sunday arvo. It's always a pleasure to play at Redcliffe. I love it. Can't wait to lock that one in again. I also found out that Dave is pretty keen to donate some veggie oil from the kitchen there for use in our motorhome that i was talking about in the last diary entry. Which is great news for Bec and I.
Alright. take care you mob an thanks for tuning in again... I'm gonna try to set up my new acoustic CD on itunes. Might be a while but hopefully worth it!
Cheers!

 Solo run.. 14/11/08

Well the Grace Emily gig was tops last night as always, small crwod but made up for by the vibe. There must have only been a hand full of dedicated fans and some new listeners too that came from the Jeff Martin gig last week. I poured my heart out to them and they seemed to like it. They didn't leave at least anyway. They bought Cd's so that's a good sign that they also got their $5 worth. Thanks again Clanger for giving birth to such an Gem of a venue in a sea of pokies. Tonight i'm in Melbourne! Well Yarra Valley actually... but nicer! at a winery called Innocent Bystander / Giant Steps. The people here are fantastic... really friendly and the food form the kitchen is outstanding. This  is where i am sitting writting this email right now. on the couch sipping on tea and munching on a pear danish. yum. but not quite as yum as the pastries i had in france but that is very hard to beat. Non the less, it's a great vibe here. tonight i'll be playing to a dinner crowd - so a little bit talky but it makes up for it with fun from the staff and the food and the atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to seeing my truck that Bec and I have bought for the eco truck home. It's a beauty. I'll be seeing it on Monday for the first time and moving it to a friends place. I only got my license the other day to drive a truck so it'll be interesting. But the dream is very much alive and i'm ready for the next step now of building it! far out. A mamoth job. Anyway back to music. The new CD is selling well and people are commenting on the recording or versions of the songs that are also on other releases... like I Always Said. someone said last night they prefered the newer acoustic version of the song.. which is ironic because that was how i orginally wrote the song.... to be a more acoustic feel... i think both versions are effective and good in their own ways. Thanks Andre for your kind words and cuppa this morning!

Anyway sweet dreams everyone... speak soon. thanks for tuning in.

 Back in Aust. 31/10/08

Hi Folks... well the tour has ended and i'm back in my home of Freo...soon to be heading down to my real home of Margaret River. Can't wait. The tour was such a success... I had such an amazing time... The last two gigs in Ireland we good fun... a little more low key but fun all the same... actually Bandon was a bit of a meat works but they enjoyed it despite being incredibly pissed and rowdy. Ross's bar in Durrus was a quite little pub run by a local, Ross, of course, and was a truly Irish experience. Lots of Guiness and words of wisdom that i couldn't understand because of the speed of accent. I just nod and say yes most of the time and hope they're not asking me question..at which point you feel like an idiot. An "eedyot. Anyway. Thanks so much to JJ, Eric and all on France, Mike And Julia and Tony in Ireland and especially John my manager for making it all happen. I hope to be back over there next year around the same time. Perhaps a bit earlier in the year...when it's a bit warmer. Though with the way the weather is at the moment, it's impossible to pick how it's going to be. Lets hope between now and then, the civilised nations of the world have done little more to reduce their emissions. Not that it will effect the weather next year... thought. More the weather for our grandkids and their kids. You get the idea. Till the next gigs... I had an absolute ball on this trip... I can't wait to go back... with more CD's next time!

Peace,

Dave Mann.

 Ireland 25/10/08

Well, last night was a cracker at Mc Carhy's Bar in Kenmare. Incidently the Irish are just fantastic - love their sense of humour. For those of you that haven't been to Ireland... Mc Carthy is pretty famous lad... pretty busy too... he has a Mc Carthy's in every town just about. Anyway this particular one in Kenmare was a beauty. The night before i played there was some pretty serious rain that flooded the bottom end of the street causing a lot of shops and house to be under water... didin't seem to bother them too much though... they were in full force the next as if nothing had happened. The night started well with e beaut meal - local seafood... and the waitress pretty keen to tell us there was some aussie guy playing tonight so we should stick around! She was kiwi. Pretty funny. Good service with smile and first name basis after that. The gig preceded along with few pints of Guiness... and in all the music went down well... i had a very attentive audience - we all had a great time. I need to mention the road between Bantry and Kenmare... it's this amazing pass over/through the mountain... beautiful forrest and winding road along the mountain side... Even though the speed limit 100km/hr there is no way on earth even the best rally drivers of the world could possibly tackle these roads at that speed... they're barely wide enough for one car rather than two way traffic! and don't be fooled to follow the white lines on the road - they're likely to send you into the barrier or off the edge! Anyway as usual it's not a problem here and nobody complains. I love it.

 Ireland...23/10/08

Hi folks! an update on the tour... I'm now in Ireland... what a fantastic place. I love it here. I've been looking forward to coming here for quite a while now... and it lives up to my expectations! even exceeds it! I'm staying in a fantastic bed and breakfast called Carbery Cottage in West County Cork... near a town called Durrus... it's nestled right at the start of a beautiful peninsula called Sheeps Head Peninsula... absolutely stunning country.. This is the place that Jeff Martin now calls home... he has a studio right here where i'm staying and it's a pretty magic spot. Certainly an inspirational place... your can see some of the influences that have made their way into some of Jeff's recent recordings from the country side here...

The weather is wild today though... been pissing with rain for 2 days... and strong cold ocean wind. It's nice. They're getting the rain that Western Australia is missing out on. Aparently, They've had the wettest summer here that they can remember.... funny that... Australia is experiencing some of the driest condidtions in quite some time. Anyone else draw any paralells to some majour shift in weather patterns? climate change. We are seriously affecting our planet folks. Times are changing. And faster than we can adapt. anyway... more on this subject another time.

Last night i played a fantastic gig in Clonakilty.. De Barras Bar. A fantasic little bar - classic old irish style... and played to a small but very attentive audience. The night was organised by a famous fella of Ireland, Gavin Moore. It was an absolute pleasure to play there and everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves...Another fella called Martin Hutchinson played too.... he's an Irish Dutchman... fantastic songs. Gavin also played some tunes and delighted everyone with his wonderful stories in song. I'm looking forward to the next coupla shows... and then heading back home. Cheers! Thanks for tuning in.
