In Friday's Journal & Courier, this show was billed as "perhaps the heaviest show of the year in Lafayette", and it lived up to the hype. With the new stage, and Fat Mans Misery's big light show, it was a metal head's euphoria for sure. All three bands pushed the huge PA beyond the limits, so much so that the amps were clipping out and monitors were virtually nonexistent. Yet the bands put on one of the most intense and energetic shows in HARDnHEAVY history, and the crowd was left screaming for more.

Narrow House is a shining gem in the Lafayette metal scene, with an old school thrash sound that hearkens back to when Metallica was actually good, and even more grit and intensity on stage. Nekropsy was up next, bringing their Chicago-style death metal to town, but not entirely confined to the "death metal" genre. While the vocals and the drum machine was all DM, the guitar work ran the gamut of various metal styles. Local death metal heroes Catatonic Atrocity headlined the show, as this was also their CD release show. With crunching old school death metal guitars and Kevin Baum's insane drumming coupled with Kyle Christman's vocals that easily switch from death metal to black metal, this band proved why they are pushing to the top of the regional metal scene. They satisfied the crowd with tracks from their Crematorium Records release "Eradication of Humanity", and then further surprised the crowd by playing several new HUMAN FILLETED songs as well (recently signed to Sevared Records). Catatonic Atrocity had been considered a "side project" by most members who all play in other bands (Human Filleted, Narrow House, All Gods Die), but Catatonic has taken on a life of it's own, perhaps catapulting this band into the forefront.

Here are individual videos of each band, as you can hear, even Fat Mans Misery's PA couldn't handle all the metal goodness...

WBAA Local Music Show
I am one of four new hosts for the WBAA Local Music Show.  WBAA is public radio from Purdue, the show airs Saturday nights @ 6pm, & Sunday nights @ 8pm, on AM 920, or streaming online at wbaa.org.  I will personally be handling the heavier side of local music!  So if your band falls somewhere in the rock genre (punk, hard rock, metal, etc.), and you are based in the Lafayette area OR will be playing here, I need to know about you!  The four new hosts will be rotating shows, which means generally each of us will have one show a month.  That means I have an hour to cover all the upcoming shows for the coming month!  I'll need to know about your local shows, and have your music to play on the show.  Please contact me so we can get the info, and make arrangements for your music!
