Frosty Freeze, also known as The Freeze To Please (born Wayne Frost on 8 December 1963 in New York City, New York, U.S.) was a legendary old school hip hop B-Boy best known worldwide as a member of the second generation of the acclaimed hip hop/Breakin’ crew, The Rock Steady Crew.

As a member of RSC, he was known for his comedic, highly acrobatic but yet fearless and inventive style, due to his trademark move, "The Suicide", also known as "The Death Freeze Drop" (a move that he created accidentally by attempting a poorly executed backflip and landing on his back).

His talents with the crew were featured in movies such as Flashdance, Wild Style, Style Wars and The Freshest Kids and made history as the first b-boy to appear on a magazine cover (The Village Voice, 1981). He was also featured in early hip hop music videos like Afrika Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force’s "Planet Rock" and Malcolm McLaren’s "Buffalo Gals".

Unfortunately Frosty Freeze has fallen extremely ill and is on life support as of March 27, 2008. The Legendary Frosty Freeze of The Rock Steady Crew passed away early this morning in NYC. 4/3/2008 May he rest in peace.

In 2002 I was hanging out with Kurtis Blow for a Interview we did over the night. He drove me through the city to diffrent locations. One was a Bronx school gymhall.

I came into the hall and there were all these kids B-Boying and having fun.

When I turned around Kurtis introduced me to a man who was extremly skinny looking.

He said to me "This is Frosty Freeze from the Rock Steady Crew"

Holy shit !!!!!

I watched the RSC when I was a kid on TV, these dudes where my heros when I was a dancer back in the 80s.

Now for the guys in NY its nothing special, but to a kid from Germany which follows the culture for so long this was very special.

He looked not very healthy even back than, but it was a honour for me to meet him.

R.I.P. Frosty Freeze

Another Great one died.

Klaus Dinger has passed away.

He played drums for Kraftwerk and went on to co-found Neu!

A report from Neu! label Grönland cites the cause of death as heart failure. Dinger was 61, and would have turned 62 on March 24.

Dinger trademarked the steady, propulsive drumming style that came to define the motorik sound associated with krautrock. He drummed on Kraftwerk’s 1970 self-titled debut before leaving the band, along with guitarist Michael Rother, to start Neu! Neu! released three seminal albums during the 70s, and had a noted influence on everyone from David Bowie to Sonic Youth to Stereolab.

After Neu! dissolved, Dinger achieved commercial success with La Düsseldorf.

Brian Eno ones was qouted: "There were three great beats in the 70s. Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, James Brown’s funk, and Klaus Dinger’s Neu! beat."

RIP Mr.Dinger, thanks for all this great music !!!!

Ever asked yourself why the Source is called the HipHop Bible ??? Now here is the complete 3rd issue from 1990 for download, and if your read it you will know why !!!

Download (24.52mb)

Inside this issue you will find following things mentioned:

Kool Keith Solo Album from 1990, Ultramagnetics and Kool keith performing live their new material for "Pathmark/free cheese" Records. WTF ALLERT !!!!

The unsigned hype crew is called "Ground Zero". What is not written is that Jean Grea was ones a member of Ground Zero.

Blair Underwood, who performed as Russel Simmons in the movie "Krush Groove" and is famous for his role in LA Law and Malcolm Jamal Warner who is famous for playing Theodore Huxtable in the Cosbys where the directors for some Black Rock & Ron videos.

By the way, Malcolm Jamal Warner is singing christian soul and gospel and looks like the Predator.

DJ David from Hamburg is mentioned as DMC Champion, fuck him !!! Today he plays very sucessfull poker.

MC Rid of Boo Yaa Tribe is rapping on this Swing Single. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V93EWkas_Mo&feature=related

DJ Too Tuff has teamed up with John Gilmore from Heavy Metal Group Executive Slacks.

Ced Gee is working in philly on a solo carrer, Kool Keith maybe becomes a member of NWA and Tim Dog promises to become large. One year later he disses the hell out of MWA. Maybe this is a revenge for Kool Keith not becoming a part of NWA ???

VERY STRANGE !!!!!!!!!!!

Generation grunge gets a honorable mention before anyone knew what grunge is. Soundgarden and Queensryche are name dropped as "Seattle Sound". Who the fuck is Nirvana !!!!!

Nastymix Records artists Side F/X are compared to De La Soul. I have to say "This is a Journey" ist a very good album, but comparing it with 3 ft. high and rising is like .... ???

In the Source Radio Network a boy from Berlin called Adrian Nabi from A.A.M. Productions is dropping is Playlist. He mentiones Snap with "The Power" LOL !!!
But he is also the only who drops the "Free South Africa Song" from Bambaataa.

In a readers mail with the fantastic title "Computer Scratching ?" a guy called DJ Evil-I is asking why the industrie is stoping pressing vinyl. He is asking if Terminator X and 45 King should start to cut up CD’s at their concerts ?? Back than he meant it as a joke LOL !!! If only he would have known !!!!

Yo RZA !!!! Who invented it ??????

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didnt knew that U.T.F.O. where dancers for Whodini before they started to rap. But here are Kid Kangol and Dr.Ice performing ca. 1984 on TV

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can say abou Will Smith waht you want, but he knows how to hype a crowd. Jazzy Jeff is as solid as ever.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince - I Wanna Rock (live)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you ever asked yourself how do you get for free into clubs, here is how you can achieve this goal.

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH

This is the RAWEST SHIT I heard in a Loooooooong time. Holy Shit this is so DOPE !!!!

I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Roots - 75 Bars (Black's Reconstruction)

The Roots feat. Dice Raw, Peedi Crakk & DJ Jazzy Jeff - Get Busy

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the crack bitch Amy Winhouse the record companys try to milk the hype. In my opinion there should be some justice and some indy labels with that sound should explode and cash in instead of majors who gave 2 years ago a fuck about this music.

But its the same as it ever was, they will milk the cow till it dies and than move on.

Here are some more or less poor mans version of 60s Northern Soul Amy Winhouse clones.

Duffy - Mercy

I would win every bet that the snare is sampled off of "Push It" by Salt N Pepa. Which originaly was sampled from "Think" by Lyn Collins (RIP).

If you dont belive my perfect ear compare it yourself.

Salt & Pepa - Push It.

Lyn Collins - Think

Whatever, here is a swedish singer with a Amy Winehouse twist to it.

Veronica Maggio - Måndagsbarn

My friends, here is a news I'm waiting now a year for.

One of the dopest records ever will be released. LSD - Watch out of the third rail was a unbelivable masterpiece when it exploded in my headphones.

That album was so extremly nice produced, so many samples, so fucking fresh complex with dope cuts and funky beats.

A B-Boys wet dream if you ask me.

More samples used than on Takes a Nation, 3ft high and rising, Pauls Boutique, Endtroducing and so on.

Still no loss of musicality.

Here is snippet LSD member Rick Ski mixed:

The record will be released on 04/04/2008 and is called LSD - Watch Out For The Third Rail (The Dope Beat Edition)

Only 500 double LPs will be pressed with a total of 38 tracks.
More infos under www.mpmsite.com or

This is the first and only LSD music video from their 1989 EP „Competent"

Dee Nasty is something like the French Tim Westwood.

He did a GREAT GREAT album in 1989 which is self titled. In my opinion one of the most underated european DJs ever.

Here is a clip of him cutting for some B-Boys in 1986 in Paris

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another moment in HipHop history. This is MC Serch visiting the Source office around 90/91. This is before Benzino, before they became shitty and all that.

Great footage

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony D is producer legend, if you dont know him do your homework and google this guy.

Nowadays Tony is dealing with Random Rap records on ebay, but it seems that he still does music. I dont know from wehn this clip is, but its not THAT old.

Tony D - The Boss is the Boss

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Band RAMP is legendary, now they came together again, after 30 years. They even toruing right now in Germany. So I was on their myspace page and found these great pictures. Thats the RAMP chief and Q-Tip chilling together.

A Tribe Called Quest sampled RAMP for "Bonita Applebum". And it seems that clearing the sample made a old man happy !!!

..

I met and hung out with Q-Tip last eve, or shall I say this morning. Awesome person, showed much respect and shared a lot with me on everything we share of interest musically. I cannot express to you how gratefully he acknowledged our impact on his success, and we talked about future projects. Yes, pictures were taken. We clicked and talked deeply, posed for pics, and hugged for all there to see the emotion of such a historic moment!

This is the funny shit for today. Its a Telethon from james Brown from around 85/86 where all the stars appeared. First James brings Michael Jackson on stage to do a little dance.

And a crazy ass fan of James Brown that Michael is he shows Brown some of his own moves.

After that he gets Prince of stage, and that crazy motherfucker is rocking like crack addict.

This is the TV show with the most re-runs EVER on this planet. It is shown every year Dec. the 31st and it has become a ritual to watch it every year. The movie is in english but the host in the beginning is exlaining the story in german.

He is saying something like this. Miss Sophie is celebrating here 90th birthday. Unfortunatley all her friends are dead. So her butler is impersonating those dead friends and and has to fight the problems which arose from his performance.

Watch it and have a lot of fun !!

Dinner for one

OK OK dont ask me why but right now I feel like HARDCORE !!!!!!!!!!

Before I start I have to say thanks to one of my best friends ever. Hardcore Kuske you damn bastard. I was always a Funk & HipHop kid since the early 80s, but in the early 90s he came into my class and we became friends.

I showed him some HipHop stuff and he showed me a lot of Hardcore, Punk and whatever you wanna call it stuff.

So here is a collection of the best guitar music I know, by the way,

FUCK ALL THIS CRAPPY COLLEGE ROCK AND RETRO ROCK BULLSHIT THATS HAPPENING THE LAST YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Helmet with the first version of „Unsung", one of my most favourite rock songs. What a great drummer, the riff is killing it and the punk-polka part at the end is the absolut SHIT !!!

Brilliant arrangement too !!!

Helmet - Unsung (First version 1991)

Helmet – Unsung (Album version)

Banging collabo between Rock and Rap, shit I get goosbumbs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helmet & House of Pain – Just another Victim

This is also Rap and Rock. From the same soundtrack „Judgement Night"

Faith No More/Boo-Ya Tribe - Another Body Murdered

Primus are gods to me, drummer and bassist are killing it. The singer is crazy as fuck and the whole shit is funky as hell.

Primus - Too Many Puppies

Check the bassplayintg and the double-bassdrum playing. KILLAH !!!!

Primus - My Name Is Mud

Great melodie and the pause after the first bars is an arrangement idea which is greater than great !!!

Fugazi - Waiting Room

Great Song and great great Video

GREEN JELLY - Three Little Pigs

Eyehategod is pure agression and power. Watch the psychovideo and understand why man is evil !!!

EYEHATEGOD - ANXIETY HANGOVER

EYEHATEGOD - Age of Bootcamp

This is Rorschach, very underated band, I LOVE THE VOICE OF THE SINGER !!! Really he is killing it with the screaming

Rorschach - My War - 1in12 Club 1992

Breakestra – Getcho Soul Together Pt.1

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This blew me away, sounds almost like on the classic 45.

The Dynamites Featuring Charles Walker and Ernie Vincent

Legendary performance by Nashville's own deep funk machines the Dynamites with Charles Walker. This clip includes a very special appearence by Ernie Vincent of Ernie and the Top Notes fame. You may recognize this track from the ground breaking deep funk comp "Funky 16 Corners" So sit back, relax, and enjoy this choice piece of deep funk history

This is also killer. Imagine going through the street and instead of hearing 50 year old farts which look like your chemical classes teacher playing boring Dixi Jazz tunes you are confronted by these dudes playing funky as hell dope tunes.

OK this maybe strange to not german people, infact it can be strange to germans too. We got a comedian called Helge Schneider. He is a genius in playing a lot of instruments from organ to vibraphone, sax, guitar and so on. Most people know him as a comedian with his da-da-istic humor. He has become a millionair through the years with his funny shit he is doing.

This is is hit „Katzeklo", was a huge hit in germany, I couldnt find the original video, so here is fake video with a live version of „Katzeklo"

By the way „Katzeklo" is the place for a cat where it can piss and shit.

Ok, so here is a great coverversion of "Katzeklo" from a Talkbox fan.

If you wanna know the lyrcis they are translated to something like this:
Refrain:
Litter Pan, litter pan ... yeah that lets the cat feel good (3x)
Litter Pan ... yeaaaahhhh be a caaaaaat! shubadibo (2x)

verse:
A cat eats the whole long day.
A cat eats me out of house and home.
For feeling fine she has to eat - I place something for her.............. She eats it up!

But more about Helge. Most times he is hard into Jazz rhytms and all that. But he got a funky side too.

Here is his song called „Ich drück die Maus"

And now the higlight his interpretation of „Sex Machine"

HELGE IS KING !!!!!!!

Have a nice weekend
