Current mood:  excited
What's up everyone! Well we have been taking some time off, but we are getting back to work this month. We have several really cool shows lined up, so be sure to come check one out. We are working out several new songs so there is a good chance we'll play them at these shows.

We've been sending out CDs for radio/podcast play so if you know of a good one let us know and we'll get in touch with them. You can get all our music on i-tunes and CDbaby.com so go check it out and if you already have the record go write a review. We'd really appreciate it!

Also I've been playing around with video camera and made a music video for "Too Fast", I'm also starting work on some other video projects so stay tuned!

Jim Beal Jr.: Turbo 350 spreads the joy of roots rock

Web Posted: 08/29/2007 07:19 PM CDT
San Antonio Express-News It's Labor Day weekend and the live-music calendar is packed with events ranging from a CD release party to multi-act bills galore.

Roots & rhythm

If you're looking for a rock 'n' roll pedigree, Turbo 350 has one. The band was formed five years ago in Memphis, Tenn., by a couple of guys who spent lots of time around Sun Studios. Adam Reynolds (guitar, vocals) and Aaron Covington (upright bass) worked as studio musicians at the fabled recording facility. Covington also was a Sun sound engineer.

Though the band regularly worked Beale Street in Memphis, Turbo 350 in 2005 opted to move to Austin. Shortly after the relocation, the Reynolds/Covington tandem added San Antonio drummer Jeremy Jacob to the mix. The trio is a rock-solid outfit with a repertoire built on hardcore rockabilly but isn't afraid to veer off into a ballad or high-energy, straight-up rock.

Saturday night at Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar, Turbo 350 will celebrate the release of "Too Fast." The Ju Ju Beans and Mr. Lewis and the Funeral Five will open.

Turbo 350 does not fool around. The CD, engineered by Stuart Sullivan (Reverend Horton Heat, Sublime, Meat Puppets), has a fat sound that matches the band's revved-up approach.

"We like the idea that not every song sounds the same," Jacobs said. "Our main thing is our music is just a good view of what rock 'n' roll used to be, of what rock 'n' roll has lost."

While the traditional rockabilly is in place ("I Won't Go Home," "Fight Fight"), Turbo 350 also delves into a smoking surf-rock instrumental ("Goliath") and a hip ballad ("You Said").

"When we have shows, we want to have a good time and we want our fans to have a good time," Jacobs said.

Turbo 350 succeeds. Memphis' loss is Texas' gain.

Jim Beal Jr.'s Night Lights covers the area music scene Wednesdays in S.A. Life and Fridays in Weekender. He also plays bass in the local band Miss Neesie & the Ear Food Orchestra. Send e-mail to jbeal@express-news.net. Beal is the host of "Third Coast Music Network" from 3-7 p.m. Thursdays on KSYM, 90.1 FM.

Well after two days in the studio recording Vocals, Guitars, Violin, Banjo and just about anything else Jeremy could think of to hit with a stick, we are finally done with all the recording for this record. I still say "this record" because we are narrowing down the title this week and I'll put up a track list then as well. All that is left is mixing and mastering the record. I'll just say from just the rough cut, that it is sounds really really cool. It has been a long time coming and I know some of you have been asking about this record for awhile. All I can say is SOON VERY SOON.

We are in San Marcos for the big Summer Fest tomorrow the 4th and then we have a really fun weekend in Houston as part of that rockabilly weekend. So here is hoping everyone can make it out! Hope everyone has a great 4th and I'll update you on how the mixing goes the weekend.

Later,

Well we are at it again.  We are back at wire studios working on the new record.  This weekend is all vocals and overdubs.   So Saturday was pretty brutal for me.  12 hours of vocals and guitar work.  Tons of fun and hard work, but hey its the best kind of work.  The record is coming out better than I could have hoped.   We came up with some pretty good stuff just to make the whole thing pop.  So here I am on Sunday working on more guitars with a sore throat ha ha.   Brad is working with us this weekend and the guy is great.  I've gotten to play with all kinds of differnet guitars and effects.  Way more than I'm used to in our live set up.  Ok before I go into a whole guitar gear ramble.... Just to let everyone know the record should be ready by early September if everything goes right.  We'll have more details next week and the track list.  Well back to work

FINALLY!!!! Well what a long and great day. We managed to get nine of the twelve songs that will bee on the new record done on the first day!  After a good hearty breakfast at IHOP we headed over to Wire studio here in Austin to work with Stuart Sullivan to finally start work on the new record.   We got in there and got down to business.  After getting the cobwebs out of the way, thanks to starting so early in the morning, we had a couple of beers to help and away we went.  So far things are sounding great.  We will be back in the studio tomorrow to finish up the main tracks and to do the Vocal tracks.  Hopefully we'll have some extra time to play around a bit in the studio. Something we've never had the chance to do.  All in all its been a really good first day and here's hoping the ready works out that well….
