Okay, I've got a couple days off and where do I land? Why back in Three Oaks, MI again of course! There must be some magical vortex here, children of the corn ( ref: last summer), brilliant people, creative space and yes, it is the Midwest....it still runs through my veins no matter how much NYC tap water and bus exhaust I've consumed over the years...I am still a Midwestern kid at heart. On to the subject matter....
It was a quiet day of van repair, cereal box toys and random musical outbursts in the Acorn Theater. Finally realized it was time to go scouting the town for food...7pm. Wendy and I forgot that small towns aren't in full summer swing yet and dinner....well, it isn't so abundant. As we walked the street I saw the Vicker's Theater...an Independent movie theater!!!!!! Last time I was here I desparately wanted to go but there wasn't anything showing. I guess there isn't much demand for movies in a small town in the winter...at least not on a regular schedule. Back to foraging.....well, not really. We ran across the street ( without fear of getting a jaywalking ticket) and lo and behold there was a movie starting...NOW! Ran down to Nelson's ( the local SMOKY tavern )ordered food to go and took it in the theater...can't do that in NYC!
We really had no idea what we were in for...saw something about senior citizens singing Talking Heads covers?????? WHAT??? We knew it would have to provide laughter at the least. All I can say is I laughed, I cried, I laughed and well....you get it. It was one of the most heartwarming, life re-affirming, musically hysterical yet great and also inspiring. Truly inspiring. Made me love what I do that much more. Music is a gift, it is life giving. It is life changing. It can ease you in and out of this life and carry you through the best and the worst . I'm almost starting to sound like a Halmark greeting card, my apologies(; All I can say is that I walked out of that theater loving life a little bit more and if you need a little lift well, check this out. It is a well rounded emotional journey...that's all I'm saying. Treat yourself to this movie...
The pic above is my Midwestern sunset that arrived after the movie...please tell me to be quiet if I ever complain...life is good.
