Well,  Here we are at the end of the voting period for the Texas Music Awards.   It is now up to the Academy Members to make the decision for the big red carpet ceremony on April.  No matter what happens we are really stoked to be nominated and feel that everyone deserves this.  The folks in our category are great musicians and we wish them well.   Keep Playing folks!!  Every now and then you may get an opportunity like this and it makes it all worth while.

See you in Palestine!!

My Texas Music Review:
Review by: Lucky Boyd

The Joel Hofmann Band has no trouble being the ‘fun’
band.  This Texas foursome winds its way
through some old favorites while bringing you their own brand of country.  Hofmann is the chief writer on this
eleven-cut release which features the entire band with a few special
guests.  The guest performances of Earl
Poole Ball, James Shelton, and Redd Volkaert are stellar.  Ball and Volkaert turn in award-worthy
performances.  Hofmann carries the vocal
duties with his own country style that is as much retro as anything else,
balancing traditional sounds with a few modern rhythms.  It’s my guess that the disc can’t come close
to seeing these guys at a live show, but it does serve to help you get your JHB
fix from one gig to another.  The
highlights are the guitar work on track one and Hofmann’s treatment of a Hank
Williams classic on track eleven.
There’s also the gratuitous drinking song in which Hofmann confesses,
“If I’m Not Drunk, I’m not drinkin’ today.”
Look for good things from this San Marcos band.  As long as they’re having fun at it, they’ll be playing a long time

New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung Review:
Review by: Dale Martin

When Joel Hofmann’s band takes the
stage this Friday night at Riley’s Tavern, they will be on familiar turf. You
see, Hofmann owns Riley’s Tavern and has for the past five years. The band just
released its first CD, “One More Day,” and has been busy playing area clubs to
promote it. I spoke with Hofmann a few days ago to discuss the CD and his
upcoming live shows in the area. “I was in another band called Fender & the
Skirtchasers, and from that we evolved into the Joel Hofmann Band because
people were coming in and out of the band and I was the only one that remained
the same. Once I found Jim Adair, our current drummer, and bassist Bill Lawson,
the band started to take shape. Guitarist Dale Allen was playing with Dave
Insley when we met. Insley stopped playing to spend time with his family so
Allen joined our band.

“We recorded the album at Dale’s studio in Austin and he
helped me produce it.” The CD is packed full of traditional country music and
includes a solid mix of originals, like the title track, plus some classic
country standards like “Long Black Veil” and “Kawliga.” Joining Hofmann on the
CD are legendary musicians Redd Volkaert on guitar and Earl Poole Ball on
piano. Both play at Riley’s Tavern on a regular basis and were eager to lend a
hand on his new album. In addition to the new album they also have a live CD
they recorded at Cheatham Street Warehouse. Both can be purchased at their
concerts, at Lone Star Music and at myspace.com/joelhofmannband. The site is
also a handy place to get band info and see dates for upcoming shows. The cover
charge for Friday nights show is just $5 and the music starts about 9 p.m.

Chronicle Review:
Review By: Doug Freeman

Behind the distinct if not entirely versatile baritone of
its leader, the Joel Hofmann Band's debut, One More Day
(Genuine Cowhide), benefits from the backing of session stalwarts Redd Volkaert, Earl Poole Ball, and James Shelton, but only "Sad Little Girl" stands
out among the rockabilly and honky-tonk set.
