By now, you've read an article, blog, text, email, note with this news:
WBCN is being retired -
http:../../..www...boston...com/..ae/..t......v/..gallery/..09_14_09_wbcn

This is a very sad time for those of us who grew up with WBCN over the 41 years of bringing the Rock to Boston. I've been a fan from Charles and the Big Mattress to Bradley Jay's "Sex Palace" to Howard every morning. It's emotional. There are so many memories to share and stories to tell. Please share them - especially the local rock and Rumble-related ones!

Remember my friends - DJs Adam 12, Hardy, Dan O'Brien, Bradley Jay, Amy Brooks, Juanita, Mark Hamilton, Andy Hicks, Bob Hannah and BSR producer and BE co-..conspirator, Shawn Clayton. They are deeply affected.

To all who've been involved during my time and over the years, thank you. I'm so proud to have been given the job. It has been an amazing year (shit, we even made boston.com front page with charles, peter wolfe and howard stern!).

I have some good news in all this, Boston Emissions will carry on and move to WZLX in August. Show is on hiatus until then. In the meantime, I do plan to podcasts via our friends at www...bostonbandcrush...com. I'll update.

WZLX is a great station with a big audience. There is great opportunity. With new curiousity, and a familiar name attached (I've been part of its airstaff for nearly 4 years), we can do great things.

The Rumble? Yes!

Thank you to those who saw fit to keep the show alive, I am immensely grateful. I feel the success of this year's Rumble and the community building we have been able to achieve has had a major affect on the show being saved. Local rock wins for a change.

Thank you for your supportive messages and intended campaigns!
Anngelle

I crawled into bed close to 6 this morning after a very exciting, fun-filled and champagne soaked Rumble afterparty in Allston (Thanks Bill).

Soon I will offer up my written post-mortem on all that's gone on these past 3 weeks in Boston, well, Cambridge. Amazing in so many ways. Boston rock, and the people who make it, came together to support each other. That's what it's about. Not the contest, not even the prizes. The support.

I have a lot of new friends and the pictures to remember it by (despite my lackluster blackberry photography, which is part of my charm evidentally).

So, thank you. I'm tired. And happy.

Amazingly well. Full rooms, sold out shows.
Bands were there in support of one another, most bands showed up every night - The Luxury, Logan 5, Apple Betty, Destruct-a-thon, Gozu, The Lights Out, The Motion Sick, Dead Cats Dead Rats, Gravehaven, Sarah Rabdau...

There's an energy in the air, like people give a shit about Boston rock, and it feels good.
Let me add that watching each band from night to night made me even more proud of what we've been able to accomplish and from the look on the faces in the crowd, it wasn't only me.
I'd watch a band and say, "Wow, they're nailing it" then the next band would come on and I'd say, "Holy shit, they're killing." More than a few times someone next to me would say, "If I were in the next band, I'd be afraid." So true.
Over the past six nights I have said that it is anyone's game. And that is the absolute truth. Each of the 24 bands on this year's Rumble deserved to be there. No matter what the sour grapes who never leave the message boards, or the house for that matter, say.

I get the bands to the Rumble and I'm glad I don't have to pick who takes their respective night. Everyone stepped up and out. Bands played in front of people who'd otherwise never go to seem them.

So, here are the finishers thus far:

Sunday: The Luxury

Monday: Gravehaven

Tuesday: The Dirty Truckers

Wednesday: (We slept)

Thursday: Sarah RabDAU and Self-Employed Assassins

Friday: Gene Dante and the Future Starlets

Saturday: The Lights Out

We take a breather and wait for Thursday, we anticipate getting together again. We'll miss each other terribly over the next few days but we'll have all my terrible blackberry pics to remember it by, and the high-quality stuff from nicole tamarro, johnny aguedas, just bill, sooz, ryan's smashing life, boston band crush and more.

I won't miss you HiFi late night. Just the good company.

Shawn and I will go over the score cards now to determine wild cards. That will be revealed tonight on Boston Emissions on WBCN at 10pm.

Metallica is in. Jeff Beck is in. Run DMC in. Same for Wanda Jackson.

My sources say the Rock Hall's class of 2009 announcement
will come tomorrow, 1/14. Among the confirmed - Jeff Beck, Metallica, Run D-M-C and Wanda Jackson. Word is that Little Anthony and the Imperials and Bobby Womach have also been elected for induction. This will make two for Jeff Beck as he was included with the The Yardbirds 1992 induction. The induction ceremony takes place this year in Cleveland on April 4th.

More to come in THE ROCK DIRT.

Porn Industry falls on Hard Times.
by Anngelle Wood

With every major industry in the U.S. looking for a handout, one would think that the sex industry might be the only one not having an issue. Not the case, or is it?

Hustler's publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis grew some new balls and plan to ask Congress for a little dough to keep them afloat with a request for a $5 billion allocation to bailout the adult entertainment industry.

According to a CNN.com report - rife with puns -  "The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion." Whether this will change the state of the world as we know it is yet to be determined.

Mr. 3G, Joe Francis, said in a statement that, "the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people." Cherished. That's beautiful.

The Sex Bailout request is said to have been delivered by end of day today to Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson. Both Mr. Flynt and Mr. Francis admit that the industry itself is in no great danger.
Despite seeing DVD sales suffer over the past year, online porn traffic continues to grow. With that, I'd have to say the state of our economy is good for smut. Out of work people need something to do to pass the day.

Let's thank the industry leaders who appear to be acting in our best interest. According to Flynt, "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Adding, "It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

Congress has yet to react on the request to fund American porn viewership.

In my "I know it's true, I read it in the Herald" segment - Wii is the new coal in your stocking. So, is evidently the case for some ingrate in Portsmouth NH.

That's what this guy's girlfriend called him when she had had enough of him insulting his grandmother over her Christmas gift to him - a Nintendo Wii.

Seems this Douche Bag (capital D, capital C), Heath Blom, was expecting a remote control airplane with a hefty $1000 price tag even though he told grandma that he'd wait until his birthday in the spring for the plane because - and I quote today's Boston Herald - "you can't fly an RC plane in the snow." His incessant complaints drove his girlfriend nuts, causing her to hide the game, punches were thrown, and this already unbearable assface dragged the girlfriend by the hair down the stairs – allegedly.

Both were arrested and the feature of My Favorite Christmas Day Mugshots.  I hope she dumps him.

One thing I still can't understand - who doesn't want a Wii?
