London's 100 Club, built atop jazz tradition, seethes blues roots and reeks of rock n' roll legend. This place reminded me of CBGB's except not as dirty and twice as old - smelled about the same though.
Killing it - we had a good time.

Well, we're back out on the road. Not that we were really home.
We just wrapped up our run with Las Claypool. His crew, band, and fans were very receptive and kind to us. It was a real pleasure to work with professionals who've been in this game for so long, and we owe them great thanks for letting us tag along through North America.
Personally, I missed about half the tour, but after seeing some doctors, I did make it back for the last two weeks.
We also played the first show for Brooklyn's newest venue/bowling alley, Brooklyn Bowl. Everybody there is busting their ass to make it the best venue in the Western Hemisphere, and my feeling is that they will succeed.
But enough of the Americas... Now, we are in Germany. Ulm, to be exact. And in honor of our return to the Deutschland, here's a clip of The Monks performing on German television in 1965 I want to thank all my friends and family who've been inquiring after my health and let you know that I will be having surgery to remove the tumor from my left humerus bone upon our return to the States in two weeks. As long as I can get through the next nine shows without fracturing it, I'll be OK!
Thanks for your thoughts and support, and I hope we'll be seeing you soon... Danke Schön! -David

It's true - I am home-bound for another week and will miss the entire Canadian leg of our current tour... Stupid tumor. :( However, we are glad to have found an excellent drummer to sit in for me for the next week. Morgan Zwerlein plays with La Troupe Makendal, but we know him back from is days with Boa Constrictor. It is certainly a great challenge to sit in with a group of musicians who've been playing together for years but Morgan is the man for the job, and I wish him luck and hope he has a good time.. Being me for a week. Just kidding - hope everyone makes him feel right at home. *There's a correction to the last entry - Youtube seems not to have been able to handle the Adventure Violence video, so I replaced it with the Vimeo version. Now, check it out and see that John did a good job. See you later, David

We love the Union in Athens, OH, and deeply regretted canceling our show there last Friday. We promise to make it up to you the next time we are anywhere near.. I've got a bit of a medical emergency that is taking me off this tour for the next few days at least, but fear not, O'death will not be canceling any more shows on this tour. We found an old friend to sit in while I get some tests done on the black mass in my shoulder. If you or anyone you know is an expert at thwarting the efforts of dark magic, please reach out to us, as I may need your help in casting a curse from my limb... Seriously. In the case that I loose my arm and abandon drums, I must reassert my self worth in the world of music: here's a song I sing on with my other band, Adventure Adventure Violence - Rye from John Connell on Vimeo.
John Connell did a great job editing this video.
And unfortunately, I'll be back in NYC tomorrow to tell him personally.
Wish us luck - we may need it.
Thanks to our awesome crowd at the Empty Bottle this past Saturday. We had a blast!

Preparing to leave town.. Right now.
Looking forward to driving across the beautiful north country and meeting with Les Claypool's crew in Boise early next week, but first - we take Athens, OH and Chicago this weekend!
I just hope my arm doesn't fall off.. Awaiting some news from my doctor, and hoping it's not bad news...
In the meantime, check out the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.
Some people don't understand why we aren't into fashion but the truth is - we just want to be dirty.. Like the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.
Till next time,
DRB

It was a great weekend of music with Brooklyn's Northside Festival. We did our thing yesterday on a rainy afternoon. Thanks to all who skipped brunch to come party with us!
But frankly, I'm more interested the shows I got to see!
Tonight I had the pleasure of hearing Lapdog of Satan, The Coathangers, and Ponytail -
But last night takes the cake - I saw Bill Callahan (not as part of the festival - that show was tonight), and his set was truly beautiful. This performer has become a master of his art and will one day be regarded as such in the ranks of Leonard Cohen and Neil Young. Well, that's just my opinion, but whatever - from the couple songs I've heard from his new record he's really at a peak right now.
I have to say, this festival was right on point in terms of the talent, and it was great being able to ride bikes from one show to another and barely even miss a song of the acts I was trying to catch. Might I add - I was quite surprised the shows I saw weren't packed! A measly $45 for weekend passes - that's recession prices! Shame on you, Brooklyn! Now The Coathangers have to return to Atlanta believing that maybe New York doesn't really know how to party. Well, I'm not going to let that happen. When we see The Coathangers at Sled Island this summer, I'll be sure to play this song for them so they know that we know that Georgie Fame knows how to party...

I hope you'll join me in congratulating our bass man, Newman, on surviving another year. Most people who know him well never thought he'd make it this far.
There were other great things besides every member of O'death created in 1982, such as this record by Iron Maiden:
Iron Maiden are among Newman's favorite bands and The Number Of The Beast is one of their most famous records, so in honor of our friend Noodles the Ruthless:
Happy Birthday, Dickhead.

We’re plugging away at booking our fall tour in the US. That’s right folks, we’ll be going out again before we settle in to work on our next record at the end of the year. That tour should see us focusing mostly on the Western half of these united states, but we’re still working on it (still trying to hook up with some good bands too, and we’re open to suggestions if you got them…) so we probably won’t be posting those dates till we’re done with Les Claypool next month. In the mean time, here’s an amazing clip of Howlin’ Wolf playing his most famous (?) tune, Smokestack Lightning...
What a performer!! -David

I don't really know much about The Viennagram except they're a fairly new band from Providence, RI, and they seem pretty fucking rad. Hoping we can catch up with them for some shows in the near future and I just thought some of yall who follow us might be interested...

there were three white owls in a broken down old room behind an auditoreum. the person who lived at the building was trying to get them out so we could sleep in the room without us being attacked and pecked at by the owls. they were beautiful and we were ok with not sleeping in the room but she was insistent. she would lure the owls down, and then catch them and wring their necks one by one. the last owl was large and puffy and looked like a muppet. we really didnt want her to kill the owls. their necks would be red and irritated from the strangling. strange things happen on tour sometimes and you have to be careful where you sleep. heres something a little more upbeat. enjoy this performance by buffy saint marie. she was a family favorite. we still have old records of hers with notes on them from my uncle who i never knew. -greg
