There are few things that humanity can agree on. One such thing that i believe is often taken for granted is the light and life-giving nourishment of our nearest and brightest star. No matter who or what you believe, we depend on the sun and there would be no life on Earth without it. Today marks a day that nearly every religion has celebrated, with mythology or direct acknowledgment of the year's cycle. It is known as the Winter Solstice. Though it may be difficult to imagine, i have written a song to help visualize the slow pulse from darkness to more light that occurs around this time of year. It is called 'Invocation of the Sun', and you can grab it from the myspace player on my page and download it for free. As the sun reaches this turning point, i invite you to play the song on headphones at 5:47pm GMT ( find the point in your timezone on this page) and imagine a great pendulum moving from the lowest point in the center out towards the edges, that it's swing takes six months to reach that edge, and that all things in our (and your own, if you are in the Northern hemisphere) will be receiving more light from today forward until next June. It is a cycle, and one that should make us all more aware of the rock we inhabit. Finally I have uploaded the full version of my track 'Telepathic Cascade' from the Brainstormlab Rule 01 Compilation ( grab the compilation for free here). This song was designed to induce brain-synchronous activity when listened to by two or more people at once. Does it work? Try it out ;) - it's on the myspace player too. The holidays are coming for most of us this week. I hope that each and every one of you finds the time to share yourself and acknowledge all the gifts you give and receive, even if your wallet is empty. Much love and see you all in 2010, c. todd //phylum sinter///BORTLORD

Hello Friends! Today i'm happy to announce my alter-ego BORTLORD has released his debut EP entitled ' THY BORTLORD COMETH', for free over at his all-capital, easy-to-use, sexy download page on bandcamp. It's available in multiple formats, and blast it til elves come out of your butt. Preview the album here or download by clicking here:
What's a BORTLORD, you ask? Well, A Bort is a crude little demon thingie, that looks a lot like the thing at the top of this announcement that comes out my ears whenever i (Chris Todd, or Phylum Sinter, or Uncle Phyllis if you prefer) get too serious, and basically tells me to get freaky with my Nintendo DS. If i don't, the Bort will become annoying and force me to step in peanut butter cups until i do. Those things are too delicious and expensive to be stomping on all day. So attempting to satisfy these things, these Borty demon things, i must become the BORTLORD and create stuff that is just fun, forcing me (and maybe you too?) to lighten the hell up with songs that happen to make magical demons disappear when i'm done with them. Enjoy! Happy Holidays from C. Todd / Phylum Sinter / BORTLORD ! p.s. all new Phylum Sinter EP's, LP's, remixes and collaborations coming in 2010!

Hello Friends, There's a free compilation out today over at Brainstorm lab. It's called Rule 01 and is a set of 12 tracks that cover the experimental electronic territory at 120bpm or less. Click the top image to go to the collective page with links to the release page, or get the whole thing directly by clicking right here. Why the speed limit? Well, maybe there's a certain synchronicity between a heart's beating and the tick-tocking of a hi-hat at this speed -- your heart punctuating half the rhythm, or finding the bass drum perhaps -- or maybe it was just a good idea at the time. I didn't come up with it, but i'm happy to be a part of it. What i do know is that my track, 'Telepathic Cascade' is a dubby number about inducing mind to mind communication. When i say "about" i really mean "intended to bring about". Listen to it with friends, and under the right conditions you just might be able to read each other's minds. I'm kidding. Or am i? Enjoy! c. todd phylum sinter

Or... domiciles. Whatever you live in, this album is for you :] Nab it by clicking here and let me know what you think of it! P.S. a few of you may have heard in the past (this was sent to people that sent me messages, or donated to me via paypal in the past), but even if you have heard it before this version is better-mastered and heck, it's free right? Have fun and enjoy! much love, c. todd //phylum sinter

Hello friends,
Just letting you know that i've updated the ol myspazz page player with three new tracks today.
(preview version!) Telepathic Cascade is for an upcoming compilation on Brainstorm Lab. I've grabbed the moment just before the peak to whet your brainwhistles. This one sounds like i've been dosing myself with tryptamines much more than i actually have... blame insomnia, i guess. Expect the compilation to drop FOR FREE in the next month or so.
The Sandpants Lovedance [live edit] is a track that has been kicking around the studio for a few months now, and though this version is already different than the one that will be on the album, whichever/whenever that album is announced, i find it good enough to share... check it out. It's got bassoons!
Onebeginsagain [live edit] was submitted to a free compilation called soulseekers vol.1, available on the underground idm trade blog over here. download the whole thing from that page.
In release news the upcoming EP Detroit Nocturnes is so close to being finished i can already hear it blasting from your stereos in my two-month-into-the-future time machine. It's really been a great process, writing an album for the city that made me... the final work on the last track (featuring vocals by Tamara Finlay) is to be done this weekend, and the graphics end is nearly complete as well. It will be out on MMR sometime soon, expect a release date to drop in the next few weeks.
Finally i'd like to let you all know about another site that i've started dropping tracks on, it's called thesixtyone and is a combination game/social/music site. The game aspect will get some people (it got me... it's like a mini rpg of musical discovery) but the amount of unknown, fantastic producers on the site will get most people. Check out what i've posted there by clicking here.
OK Autumn has come and the studio beckons... be well, friends.
With love,
c. todd

Hello Friends, I'm happy to report some press has started flowing regarding my most recent album. Find a review of 'From Unity to Segmentation' at Headphone commute here, and a related TANTALIZING interview over at the same site right here. Still working on finishing up the next EP 'Detroit Nocturnes' for MMR, one track to go! Then the big LP 'Amongst Fauna and Wiring' for Tympanik Audio, an album also lovingly codenamed 'The beast' as i've begun calling it goes into high gear in hopes of sculpting 5 years of research into a cohesive album by the end of the year. I talk about it in the interview above, hope to have you all on board the good ship Sinter once the work is finally completed. Enjoy the rest of your summer! -c. todd

Hello Friends, I've had the privilege of being the part of alot of labels this year... and along with releasing them, sometimes those labels are good enough to get showcased on radio. As luck would have it, two of the labels i'm working with currently have had just such a thing happen. The first showcase is on Proton radio, showcasing artists on MMR. I'll be releasing an EP with them and i'm told a few tracks from that release are included in the mix Episode is titled "Lorin MMR" click here to listen+download the show. This one may be recurring, so check back sometime later too. The other showcase is having its AM broadcast debut tonight on KYOU 1550 San Francisco tonight, but on the internet time doesnt really matter (does it?). Solipsistic Nation interviews Mike Cadoo (of n5md/Enpeg Digital), who has put together a nice mix of tracks from new and upcoming releases on the labels... including one by me. clicky clicky. Oh and its not a label showcase, but i've also had some play on Hidden Forms Radio on 89.1 WNUR (Chicago) - a full playlist and links to listen are available here. Enjoy! expect my next release date TBA in the next month or so. With love, c. todd phylum_sinter p.s. quick poll: are these announcements too wordy? i tend to write these after way too much caffeine... let me know and sorry if it is, i'll work on it!
