As posted by the straw haired PR machine on another site:
"Kurt Michaels is pleased to announce two upcoming performances,
opening for The Syn on their 2009 American tour.

Michaels will play at Shank Hall in Milwaukee, Monday, May 11 and at
Martyr’s in Chicago on Tuesday, May 12.

The performances will mark a departure of sorts from the fourth
dimensional guitar approach that Michaels has utilized over the past
several years in his improvisational ambient appearances. While
soundscapes will remain a part of the performances, both shows will
feature several songs from his forthcoming CD tentatively titled
Soaring Back to Earth. Didn’t Get to Say Goodbye, a tribute to
Michaels’ brother Fred, will be among the new compositions played.
These are written more in the traditional singer-songwriter vein, but
with the ambient backdrops that one has come to expect from his music.

Joining Michaels onstage in both Milwaukee and Chicago will be his
usual partner in crime, keyboardist Jim Gully. The Martyr’s
performance, however, will have the added luxury of Michaels’ full
band, which will also appear on the forthcoming CD.

“I’m looking forward to taking some of the new material out for a test drive in a live setting," Michaels said.

Both shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets for Milwaukee are $20. Martyr’s
tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at the door.

Shank Hall is located at 1434 N. Farwell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202,
414-276-7288. http://www.shankhall.com.

Martyr’s is located at 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL,

Howdy doody my friends.....I think it's time to emerge from my winter hibernation. Did ya miss me?

They say a criminal always returns to the scene of a crime, and predictably I am returning to McFoster's Natural Kind Cafe in Omaha NE on Friday April 24th for a dinner set from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

For those of you following along, I played there last Halloween. While I'm not from Omaha, I have to figure McFosters is *the* destination if you are looking for good healthy food served up with a "feels like home to me" backdrop of 60s style "peace, love & and understanding". The meal I was served was absolutely amazing and the desserts are to die for! I will be doing my part to add to the ambience with my self described "fourth dimensional" guitar meanderings. If this works for you, then this is where you want to be when I hit town on Friday April 24th....no excuses! I will be playing a few of the songs that will likely wind up on my next cd (recording currently underway) and I have been known to accomodate a request or two, especially when they are written on the back of paper currency of a respectful and appropriate denomination.

Here's the vital info regarding that:

Friday April 24th, 2009
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
McFosters Natural Kind Cafe
302 S 38th St.
Omaha, NE
402-345-7477
http://www.mcfosters.com

Check out the description taken from their website:

"McFoster's is a vegetarian restaurant that also serves free range chicken dishes and fresh seafood. All of our foods are free of refined flour or sugars. Our soups are made with vegetable stock. We use organic eggs only in our carrot cake and Thousand Island dressing. All menu items are available for take out. We offer a 10% discount if you bring in your own takeout container. Approximately 50% of our food is organically grown. We use organic produce from local grocers whenever possible. McFoster's recycles all it's waste glass, tin, paper, aluminum and plastic."

Looking forward to hooking back up with some of the friends I made last time around. For those of you that thought I stunk, this should serve as adequate warning!   ;)

See you there?

As Bullwinkle once said: "This time for sure....."

Emerging from what's left of the holidays, I'm happy to announce a couple of new show dates in my continuing series of real time assaults on the musical sensibilities of those who care to hang with me.

On Friday, January 16th I will be making another pass through the Twin Cities, hopefully avoiding whatever flu and/or elk tartar that got the better of me in December:

Friday, January 16, 2009
showtime: 6:00 pm
cover: n/a

Black Sheep Cafe
705 Southview Boulevard
South Saint Paul, MN 55075
651 554 0155
www.blacksheepcoffeecafe.com

Moving on, previously I thought I'd be playing Reggie's Music Joint in Chicago on 1/16 but through the magic that only the scheduling gods and goddesses can deliver, the date of my performance at Reggie's will now be 1/22 with a 9:00 pm start. In my conversation with the Scheduling Goddess of Reggiedom, there will be another act or two involved in the fray. When I find out more, I will let ya know, but here is what I do know:

Thursday January 22nd, 2009
showtime: 9:00 pm
cover: TBD

Reggie's Music Joint
2105 S State St
Chicago, Illinois
(312) 949-0120
http://www.reggieslive.com/musicjoint/

For those of you who have resolved in the New Year to kill your television sets and venture out of the house occaisionally to support live music, these are two prime opportunities to do so and not spend a whole lot of ca$h !!!

Trudging across the frozen tundra to get to the fourth dimensional cattle call (aka my shows) ain't so bad when you consider how good it will feel to commune with your fellow music lovers and joining in to say a collective "Phuck You !!!" to the harsh winter weather season we are currently experiencing here in the midwest.........

See you there?

Regards,

Kurt

For anyone interested, I've just posted an mp3 of one of the tracks from my set at the City Skies Festival in Atlanta a few weeks back. You can listen to the stream and/or download if you like. It's called "Alone Again" for the simple reason that Jims feed into the board apparently was dead....mine was the only signal that got recorded. It's a shame that Jim's accompaniment didn't make it onto this recording, but even without it, I thought it worth posting. For those interested in hearing some of the things that the Godin can do, all the synth pads and patches are being triggered by the guitar in real time, using both my hands and feet to mix them in and out.

Current mood:  talkative

Casting my fate to the wind, the next stop of the "Kurt Michaels Ultimate Ho - Shameless Self Promotion" Fall Tour of 2008 comes to the Cattle Capital of the Free World....beautiful Omaha, Nebraska where no cow is safe unless it resides on my cd cover! Ironically the venue in question is a vegetarian restaurant. I will be helping them to celebrate Halloween on Friday October 31st, with a dinnertime set starting at 6:00 pm.
Here's the vital info regarding that:

Friday October 31st, 2008
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

McFosters Natural Kind Cafe
302 S 38th St.

Omaha, NE

402-345-7477

Hopefully I won't scare the patrons of this place too much. It sounds like a cool place to play. Check out the description taken from their website....

McFoster's recycles all it's waste glass, tin, paper, aluminum and plastic.
"

So should I rent a costume for this gig? TBC says I'm scary enough without one....

See you there?

Shamelessness knows no bounds as I take my ambient/electronic 4th dimensional guitar playing act on the road once again to the BBQ capital of the world: Kansas City, MO !!!

Here's the details:

Date: Friday, October 17th, 2008

Kansas City, MO 64105

Now I get to lean on Peggy, Brent & Chef Golf to help me scare up some warm bodies to fill the place up with to make it look like I have a following !!!

(There's no business like show business......)

Current mood:  adventurous

For those of you who have been following along, these last few years have been spent establishing myself as an artist performing and recording soundscapes. While I have no intention of abandoning that, wanderlust has started to kick in, and I am now in the process of developing some new music for my next cd that will be taking me in another direction with the music.

We're going to retain as much of the ethereal aspect of the music that we have established with our previous work and adding to it a singer/songwriter element. Additionally we will be expanding the format to include a full rhythm section with background vox and all the other bells and whistles one would associate with a through composed and produced pieceof music.

As has been my pattern in the past, I'm gonna share this process with you and let you see how a piece of music develops. Today I posted a stripped down raw demo of a piece of music I recently wrote for my brother who passed away earlier this year called "Didn't Get To Say Goodbye". I'd like to think the final recorded version will evolve considerably  over the coming months. For now, I'm willing to share, warts and all, the beginnings of what I hope will be a piece of music that lives up to the feelings and emotions that inspired it. I hope you enjoy it....
