Current mood:  determined
sorry to say guys, but the band is having all sorts of scheduling and personnel conflicts...I can't offer any specualtion on when or if any new AG music will be coming out to you guys.

we had almost an albums worth of new material that just needed some finishing, but everyone in AG is working so hard away from the band that we don't know if it will ever see the light of day.

we thank everyone that stands behind us and supports us.  this isn't a goodbye as much as it is an until next time, as we are still very interested in the future of this band.

well friends and foes, we have been off the grid for a long while now, but have some uplifting new to report. Mike Murphy (bass) and Scott Gibson (drums) have said they want on board and are actively practicing with us now...Brandon, Hair & myself are thrilled to have such energetic and creative forces along with us and look forward to writing a new chapter for Anvil Grey and our fans out there...

as we get new material together be on the lookout for AG playing a venue near you in the coming months...

Current mood:  depressed
this weekend has been a tragic one friends...the life of one of Anvil Grey's biggest supporters and brother-in-law to frontman Matthew Menefee has passed.

we will all remember David for his smile and constant enthusiasm about our music, and all the good times we shared...

he is a light in this world that will be sorely missed.

there will be a memorial service this week at Owen's Funeral Home on Dixie Highway in Louisville, KY for David Roach.

may the lord hold him in eternal comfort

Anvil Grey and drummer Chris Nye recently parted ways on good terms and are in need of a new pecussion section.  We have a brand new selection of music that requires someone with the stick and footwork similar but not limited to Fear Factory, Sepultura & DevilDriver.

We are a drug free (not straight-edge) band and require that you have all your own gear and be available to travel/tour extensively in the future.  Must also be willing to front your portion of expenses when it comes to merch and recording.

We look forward to meeting and hanging out with any and all prospects and hope for a great working future as well as friendships!

as most of you fans know we've been grinding on this album for half a year now, and have all finally decided on the title "Deaf Heavy".

we figured it appropriate due to how deaf we've become to being told what is acceptable in our society.  conformity is the killer of creative ideals.

the album itself is looking to be 12 songs and clocking in at almost 70 minutes of music.  also included with the CD is a DVD of live shows from when we first started playing up to present, as well as just seeing us in everyday life and hanging out.

there might also be homemade music video ideas as well, but we're still working all that out...

we've had alot of fun making all this and we hope that you all have enjoyed hearing it and seeing it!  so keep your ears to the ground at the end of the summer and come up with your own copy of Anvil Grey's Deaf Heavy!

You are receiving this because I thought you might like something to read. If you don't want to be included on this let me know and I will not send you a broadcast again (note if you are on the AG livegroup you got this as well)

Whew. What a year 2008 has been so far!

Coming off stage from Phoenix Hill in early December, the band went into a little well deserved vacation. A time to reflect, to renew, and to come back swinging hard in January.

2008 marks Anvil Grey's third year out, and in looking back at the beginning of the band to today, there has been quite a lot of progress, struggle, and purging.

January marked Brandon's six month mark with the band. December marked Chris Mitchell's year mark with the band. Both members have contributed extraordinarily towards the band's creative engine.

2007 saw Anvil Grey break into the Hill, as well as Headliners, performing what was to date their most powerful performance opening for Flaw and Powerman 5000 that March.

We are still grateful for Terry Harper for putting us on that show. It showed us and a lot of other people that we had what it took to perform on a big stage.

2008's goals are even loftier. As of Monday, Jan 28, the band will be mastering their 8th studio track for the upcoming album with 2002 Studios. The first four tracks laid late last year were all older material, written in the beginning stages of the group. The second four tracks see some older material recorded with a new twist, alongside the band's latest creation which debut's on the FOX next sunday February 3rd alongside an interview with Mudd.

The four songs that went in this time around were:

The One That Never Was - Our second slower song, behind Picking Up Pieces, that starts at a slow pace and moves into a train wreck. It's about killing your girlfriend... I mean... how can you not love a song about that? Some post production work remains on this song after it is mastered.

Auticus Slain - A mid paced song with leads inspired by the movie 300. It needs post production horns added to it as well as some effects after mastering. This song made its debut with Fender on Aiiradio.net and can be seen live on that session on our website via youtube.

Nightmare - The opener to the Flaw/Powerman show, this song has gone through some changes since we first assembled it. Coming into the studio, we considered it an ok song. Coming out of the studio, the song really took a life of its own and became this dark, sinister, evil thing that had it's heaviness jacked up and sees complicated riff work from our guitarists as well as complicated double bass patterns inspired by Fear Factory and Mudvayne. This song is also Anvil Grey's longest, clocking in at a little over seven minutes.

Concrete - Every once in a while you get a song that essentially writes itself. Nick Johnson, the bassist for the group, was the one who originated the backbone of the song Picking Up Pieces, which is considered the band's best track. He is also credited for the backbone of this piece, and it only took three days of writing to have it finished, and put through the studio. The result? When I heard it for the first time mixed correctly, it gave me goosebumps.

Make no mistake... this song is heavy. Probably one of the heaviest songs the band has done, incorporating thick rhythm pieces with a chaotic blend of leads that are actually a part of the foundation tracks, mixed in with methodical drums that go from driving to a frantic triplet pattern.

Concrete will debut on the radio next week and it along with nightmare will be made available to listen on the myspace and website. The other two songs will appear on the website after post production work has been done and will be available on the album later this year.

A special edition EP will be cut for the Headliners show on 2/8 which will contain Nightmare and Concrete.

Those wearing AG garb that night will have a chance to win them for free.

NEW ALBUM
Speaking of the new album, the band has a couple more studio sessions set up for April and June, where they will finish off sixteen tracks and then move into song selection and artwork for a hopeful August/September pressing and release.

There are talks about having a "pre-release" show which will feature the band running the entire album and filming it live for a DVD to be released with the album.

A CD release show has not been confirmed in Louisville.

TOUR
Last year we talked about it privately and in public about wanting to hit the region. 2008 sees that as a reality as the band has several mini-tours worked out taking them all over. The first tour weekend starts in March and sees AG hitting Illinois.

AG returns to the stage Saturday feb 2nd at Bulldog Cafe with local rock acts Hardlein and Dogwater and power metal band Sonic Epitaph.

They return to the big stage at Headliners February 8th alongside local metal giants and LRS-Fest alumni Caldera, as well as with bands Sonic Epitaph, Ashes Eve, and others.

For more information, log into their website at www.anvilgrey.com, or on the myspace at www.myspace.com/anvilgrey

The first studio session is available on both sites, though the mix is not final. Note: Friend in War was recorded in AG Studios, not Studio 2002, and will be re recorded in a future session.

Thank you very much for your support and thank you to the bands in the 502 who have supported us.

Current mood:  awake

We in Anvil Grey get asked this all the time in interviews and by fans, so we will give you the honest answer of how we came up with the name.

The Anvil comes from an instrument used to bend and fold metal until it is the shape you desire.  You hammer and mold it, just like we do with each and every song we write...

Grey is the equal seperation between white and black...All of us in the band come from so many musical backgrounds and have so many influences, that we find ourselves in that middle ground while we write.  It only made sense to refer to ourselves as that Grey in between since so many others in today's music are so quick to tell you what genre they are.

Tales From the Forge - 9/18/2007

Summer is winding down and the guys from Anvil Grey are keying up, having come out of the past few months ending their search to fill in the vacant guitar slot with inspiring newcomer Brandon Greene and actually getting to write new material as a group. Beginning their third year together, there is much on the to-do list for the band.

Anvil Grey has stepped off of the Louisville music scene, pulling their play dates back considerably, and redirecting their energies to playing out in the region and finally finishing the album.

With seven songs finished and ready to go to the studio, the band is hoping to unveil songs 8 and 9 at their next show, where they open for Sonic Epitaph, on October 31st at Bulldog Cafe.

October 14th sees the band beginning their recording stints at an analog studio in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where they will knock out Dead Shall Rise, Birds of Prey, Picking up Pieces, and Relative Coffin. These studio cuts should make it to the myspace page and website, though the rest of the studio material will be held off for the album.

The band has begun recording a home version of their new material and hope to have it up briefly before October.

A photo shoot and a music video shoot are also in the works for October, material which will be used for the website and the accompanying DVD which will ship with the album.

On November 11th, the group makes their way to the Den of Sin to broadcast live with Fender on Aiiradio.net.

The group would like to thank those people and bands that have been there for the guys through the good and the bad, to those that have not abandoned the cause for popularities sake, and to those that rock out with us and have the balls to stir things up a little for the scene, both locally and regionally.

We look forward to the months and years to come and we look forward to our first show on stage since August on October 31st with our friends.

Regards
Chris, Chris, Matt, Nick, and Brandon

Friend in War is now live on the site!
Thursday, January 04, 2007

Five weeks from today Anvil Grey will be stepping back onto the stage for the first time since September, and for the first time with a new guitarist in the lineup.

We have hired on Chris Mitchell as our new guitarist, and he and Tyler will be teaming up on the guitars, as well as to help Nick with his hair.

We're looking at some spots for our upcoming photo shoot, and we have a new logo about to surface.  Once the photoshoot is complete, and the logo is finished, anvilgrey.com will be launched.

2007 is going to be an exciting year for us and it is already starting out hot!  We will be playing a short set at Petrus on February 8th for a benefit.  From there we head to Seymour Indiana on the 24th with our friends from Within a Tragedy, rounding out to the Headliners show with Flaw and Powerman 5000 on Sunday, March 11th.

Bulldogs Cafe has also given us some dates to play and we are going to probably be doing more regional shows with Within A Tragedy in the Indiana area.

We're hoping to have our original material down with Chris by March and move into writing some new material for the upcoming album, as well as begin the recording process.

Thank you all for listening to Anvil Grey, and thank you for your support!
