I'm recording a new EP entitled "The Sea Married Me." It will feature
four or five songs, which will be connected to make a seamless 30+
minute experience. I don't want to use the term "progressive" or
"concept," but it's a continuous album with reoccurring musical and
lyrical themes. CH McCoy of Southern Hills is recording the project.
In the past, my recording process has been fairly isolated, and I used
to try to play all the instruments by myself. Not any more. My goal
for making this record is to work together with musicians from
Springfield (and across the country) to create something with which we
can all be proud. I am sending out an open invitation to any musicians
who would like to contribute to the record. I will post a working demo
of the first track for download in the next week or two. Then, people
can record their additional parts and send them back to me.
Also, I am in need of some specific instrumentalists to come record
with us: Trumpet Oboe Bassoon Violin French Horn Flute Tuba.
If
you or someone you know is proficient with any of these instruments,
email me at nathaniel [dot] carroll [at] gmail [dot] com, reply to this blog entry, or "myspace me," as the kids often say.
It's taken me a long time to realize that music is not meant to be lonely. I thank you in advance for creating new music with me.
xoxo, nathaniel

Dear friends, Some time between 11pm and 7:45am today my van window was broken out and my stage piano and acoustic/electric were stolen. I also had a drum set in there, but it was apparently not what the culprit(s) sought.
At any rate, I need your all to keep your specs on. If you happen by a pawn shop or a flea market and have second, look inside for a Yamaha P-120 stage piano (silver body with cherry-wood finish on top...possibly "xoxo" in black electrical tape over the Yamaha logo on the front). The keyboard was in a black hardshell flight case made by Gator, with rolling wheels, four locks, and three carrying straps.
The guitar is an acoustic/electric "Seagull" brand (made in Canada) that has a bunch of tape on the bottom where the output jack is housed, a little bird drawn on the front body of the guitar, scratches and cracks all over the front, a brown leather strap taped and tied to it, and a stage pass sticker from a show I played at the Knitting Factory a few years ago on the bottom near the output jack. It has a TEAC brand soft/hard case that is khaki and black on the outside with one large pocket. The handle was completely ripped off the case, as it is still laying in my van. This case will only hold my guitar (or other Seagulls), so it will be fairly useless for other guitars.
Below are some links to help: Follow this link and cycle through the pictures. You'll get a good look at the keyboard and the guitar. Thanks to Aaron Scott for taking photos!
Please call me, write me, or come find me if you have any information leading to the obtainment of my instruments. 573-480-1279 nathaniel.carroll@gmail.com
I may not have the tools I need, but this won't stop me from building a city of rock n' roll. Watch out, America.

DeKalb, IL's own "Beep" Magazine gave this two-word review:
"Not Bad."
This is the best review I could ask for! My friend Nick pointed out that it's like reaching "Don't Buy" on that crazy stock guy show on MSNBC.

There's a new song on the player called "Growing Up, Growing Out" that I recorded during a tornado a few weeks ago. It came out on a cool split cd in a zine called Things That Are True created by our friend Elise. She's as awesome as the little eyes on marshmallow peeps are the cutest part on the entire peep. Weird. The split features 3 songs by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, and 3 songs I recorded at home. Visit the aforementioned TTAT website to order a copy of the Haircuts zine and split cd for $10 or $11. I can't remember. I hope to get back in the studio soon and wrap up the new record. In the meanwhile, I will spend a weekend with Jason Spell or something learning AC/DC covers for my next free download cover project, "NC/DC." I also promise to finish two more songs for my split with the infamous Daniel G. Harmann, who now lives in Seattle, WA. I'm crossing my fingers for August on this one. I've got plenty of shows this summer. In case you didn't know or just forgot, I'm playing with Faatherton again, so come check out our shows as well! xoxo, nathaniel
