Another top night of fantastic live bands, an unmissable Woody Guthrie music show, great comedy, underground no-budget independent film screenings, cabaret, top notch DJs and surprises: and it's all for FREE!

LIVE!
ON THE FIRST FLOOR: an evening of film, cabaret and live music (bands to be announced)

WILL KAUFMAN: WOODY GUTHRIE- a music tour
[STARTS 8.30PM]
Offline at the Dogstar, London SW9 Thurs 8th Oct 2009
ALL YOU JIM CROW FASCISTS! WOODY GUTHRIE'S FREEDOM SONGS
The show explores Guthrie's anti-racist songs and activism - the legacy of his own personal transformation from a casual Oklahoma racist to a committed civil rights activist working and singing with the likes of Lead Belly, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee and Paul Robeson.

A brilliantly entertaining and informative musical 'tour' around Woody Guthrie's work, Will's performance mixes live performance, sparkling humour and excellent musicianship. Discover why Guthrie's work is as relevant and hard-hitting now as it was for America in the Depression in this superb show.

The presentation begins with archive photos as Will plays slide guitar and the rest of the show is Will singing Guthrie's songs, using guitar, banjo and fiddle. It's funny, educational, and has rightly picked up rave reviews - don't miss it!

"Will Kaufman's skills as a musician, his infectious personality and his genuine commitment to the works of Woody Guthrie make this one of the most powerful presentations on the Depression and New Deal period that I have had the pleasure to have seen." Liverpool John Moores University

"No one can understand the American people without listening to Woody Guthrie. Will Kaufman's doing important work here." Tom Paxton

THE SARAH MICHELLES
Astonishingly - some may say suspiciously - brilliant new band described as 'the bastard son of Weezer,' serving up what they call 'super smutty guitar pop.' It's rare that we get blown away by anything on MySpace, but their melody-rich, Teenage Fanclub-esque, guitar driven tunes immediately earned them a space on the bill and we strongly recommend you check them out.

LIVE BANDS:

ON THE FIRST FLOOR: an evening of film, cabaret and live music

THE LOST CAVALRY
A new project by Mark West, the former guitarist from FANFARLO, we've been loving the beautiful indie/folk sounds of this great new band.
"Smiths and early Travis-like guitar pop" Time Out

FLIXATION
Get on the top floor with FLIXATION for no-budget underground cinema, video mashup, digital craft, amateur film Art, performance and music. Featuring the international premiere of a new performance by infamous Duncan Reekie (Exploding Cinema). Also new work by infectious Clive Shaw (MyEyeysMyEyes) and irate Caroline Kennedy (Exploding Cinema). The compere will be the imperceptible Ray Beam and on the wheels of steel the notorious DJ Tar Baby. If you have any work you'd like to show or a performance you'd like to do - contact Duncan on 07929876301 or email Flixation

VIC LAMBRUSCO'S CABARET HOUR
'Abrasive political comedy' - Time Out
Comic piquancy - Independent

With a full line up of comedians, wags, poets and wordsmiths, including lively Offline favourite CAPTAIN OF THE RANT.

PLUS:

LADY LYKEZ
An exciting young Hip Hop/Grime UK female artist with a rising reputation, Lady Lykez appeared on the London Urban Collective III ATL album ('rough edged grime and hip-hop with often wise and witty wordplay' - DJ magazine) before storming the notorious Club Apache open mic night in Atlanta, USA.
She recently completed an album in Mali, Africa with Akala, Bashy, Kele Le Roc, Silverstone for 'Routes to Rootz' funded by Bigga Fish and she's now back in the UK and ready to showcase her unique sound, "echoing the distinctive UK take of an artist like Dizzee Rascal mixed with the vocal dexterity and off kilter song structures of Missy Elliot."

TOP DJS!

We'll also have a full crew of hard-drinking Offline regulars throwing down a selection of ska, punk, reggae, roots, rock'n'roll, new wave, punk, big band, garage rock and more, rocking on till the early hours, including:

EDITOR (urban75)
An ale-fuelled onslaught of ska, punk, rock'n'roll, big band, rockabilly, Mrs Mills & Liberace in a floor stomping package proving that drinking'n'DJing can be a perilous trade.

NIPSLA (Falling over studios)
Packing more pop than a Rice Krispies factory, Nipsla's DJ bag is a veritable jumble sale of joy, overflowing with indie, dance, electro and party tunes.

LANG & LOPEZ (The Actionettes)
A veritable platter splatter of 50s, 60s, Motown and more vital tunes from the external linkActionettes' very own Glamour Queens of Vintage Vinyl.

BOBBY BAUHAUS (charcoal soul) More mysterious than Robert Smith's eyeliner bag, Bobby gets dancefloors rocking with quirky, darkside indie-pop and kohl-smudging breakbeats.
