Happy New Year! Here we go again; we always start off each new year with a refreshing sense of hope and optimism. It's a chance to hit the "reset" button...to figure out what the hell went wrong and/or right over the last year, and tweak our goals. Sometimes we get so caught up in the grind of it all, we loose sight of where we're at, and more tragically, we've forgotten where the hell we're going.
I used to think that if I couldn't be famous and make millions doing what I love to, there just wasn't any point to life. After all, I've sacrificed 10 solid years to music. Time that I could have spent getting my master's degree, making big money climbing the corporate ladder. But I can't imagine life without music; it's part of my soul. I've had numerous young aspiring artists contact me asking how to get into the music industry, how to be a better writer, etc. I admit, I don't know 1/2 the answers, but I've experienced a few things during my journey that I can pass along to you all here in my blogs. Over the past couple years, the music industry has been in major transition. The day of the download is here, and consumers no longer have to buy an album full of crap, while producers reap profits even when the albums flopped. The bad news is, established artist don't sell records anymore, and talented aspiring artists may never see the light of day...we live in the day and age where people feel like the only way they can get a profitable record deal is through American Idol...so sad. The record labels have suffered major losses over the last 2 years, and sadly, equate good music with MySpace and you tube hits. They want the artists to do all the marketing and branding; A&Rs live in fear of being fired, and record labels are afraid to take risks. Essentially, the record labels are no more than banks who want you to do all the work, while they take a huge cut. Thank God that the record labels did not historically take this approach; we may have never been privileged to listen to a Stevie Wonder album, etc.
Here's the good news; you and I have all the resources needed to make money and be successful in the music industry. There has never been a day when music is accessible as it is now. Personal recording studios are inexpensive; the internet gives you instant access to nearly everyone in the world. If you invest time and money in yourself, you can reap a profit. This accessibility to technology is also the greatest hurdle in the music industry; everybody and their momma thinks they can rap, sing and/or produce. The internet is saturated with amateurs. In a way, this is a good thing. If you can shine as an artist above the ambient roar, then you have been "on your grind" and you offer the consumer something appealing and fresh.
Here's the biggest lesson of it all: Do music because you love music. Your love for music should be your only motivation to be in this industry; it's so much more satisfying. Well, I'll try not to be a blog stranger this year. Most of my album has been recorded, so I'll have more time to chat and network online. Peace, Joe

Okay! EMG is finally back in business. We had a good response on the One Way record in Feb., but we took it back to the studio to get re-mixed. The previous mix we had was okay, but we're competing against the big dawgs, so we spent some money to get the record where it needed to be, even if it meant loosing a little bit of momentum. I just got the master back tonight (Philly International Studios), so I'm excited; things are getting ready to get crazy!
As you all know, I have new pics up; I'm tryin to look sexy for the ladies! I photo edited these pics myself, but a professional edit is in the works as we speak.
If you believe in what I'm doing, make sure you help me spread the word about Joe Tann. Help me get my myspace friends up; tell everyone you know that Joe Tann is official. Don't be afraid to drop me a line!
Thanks for your support and friendship. I can't do it without you all.

Joe Tann Update:
I released my single One Way or Another on Digiwaxx 5 days ago, and it has already broke into the Digiwaxx top 5 (www.digiwaxx.com); this is a WORLDWIDE Record Pull! Digiwaxx came at me like, "Your downloads are unheard of for an Independent artist that no one has heard of!" Most of the response back on the record are positive. Now that the ball has started rolling, it's up to me and my camp to take this thing to the next level.
Thanks to all my friends, family and fans for supporting me. I will need your continued support to help me achieve my ultimate goals. Please keep spreading the word about my music; direct people to my myspace and my website:

2008...what can I say? This is supposed to be my year, and I'm starting it off big with the hit single "One Way or Another" featuring Jadakiss. This song has been sitting in my catalog for a while now, but over the last couple months I've been working with producer Knoq Harda (Evolution Music Group) and a few industry engineers to get this record where it needs to be...in the clubs and on your radio speakers!
So what's been going on with Joe Tann? I'm still in the studio (my second home) trying to get the next 2 albums recorded, so I can hit the ground running. I got some fire that I can't wait to share with my fans; all in good time!
Other than that? Rehearsals, street promotion and the gym (I gotta look good for the ladies). As far as promotions, much of my focus over the next few months will be in the South East. Right now, the Carolinas and ATL is where it's at for Joe Tann (But don't worry, I got love for everyone). I gotta say, they're hungry for new music and talent down there, and they know how to party and have a good time. I'm hoping I can carry some of that momentum to my home town of Richmond. We really need to learn how to promote and embrace our local artists. There is so much hidden talent here!
Thanks for all your support and keep checking back with me...I'll be posting some video blogs and unplugged performances soon. Spread the word: Joe Tann is official!

Knoq Harda! That boyz the truth. This whole project, for the most part, is spear-headed by your boy Joe Tann and talented producer Knoq Harda. Knoq has facilitated my music creativity by including me in the production process, and allowing me to do what I do best; write Hitz! Check out, "Get My Girl Back", "Pusha" and "Drop A Tear". And coming soon: "Trouble" and "White Tann & Brown"! I'll keep you posted.
I'd also like to give a shot out to Smooth Dirty Entertainment.
