On
Bodies is super excited to be launching our first record, "The After
EP" this Friday @ the Green Room!
Helping out with the fun will be Sick
Friend (www.myspace.com/sickfriendmusic) and DJ Faggotron, who
will be spinning some brooding/ass-shaking tunes ('cause that's how we
roll...).Time to celebrate all things spring, new, and not cold.
Two special guests, Dallas Curow and Alex Boctor, will also be joining
us onstage, thus it promises epic Sarah Connor-style times! Cover is
$5, and we will also have a limited edition zine available for y'all to
go with the fancy new record.
We hope to have the EP available online soon-ish, but until then you can find copies at Phonopolis (5403A Parc) and Cheap Thrills (2044 Metcalfe), or email us at onbodies@gmail.com so we can snail mail a you a copy ($5 plus shipping).
Big thanks to everyone
who has helped us with this record, especially Marty & Juno @
Digital Bird Studios for their attentive ears and insight (www.digitalbirdstudios.com/studio). Thanks as well to Farah Khan (www.house9design.ca), and Hicham Illoussamen (www. haa.carbonmade.com), for their sharp eyes and wit:) Yr all amazing.

................
Greetings supportive friends and peers,
.. ..
This long-overdue blog post has roots in late-autumn, as the
wind got colder, the leaves fell to the ground, and On Bodies began working on
a six-song EP at Digital Bird Studios with Martin Horn (a mere coincidence that
we chose to record during the darkest of seasons, or another example of
hopefully-humorous goth-influence? Not sure). We are nearing the end of the
mixing process, which has followed a four day/week recording process sustained
by hundreds of coffees, teas, beer, buffalo wing and/or brown rice chips, vegan
sandwiches, poutine, and T-Ho’s breakfast sandwiches (our food choices
potentially reflect the musical dynamics and variety that can be expected on
the EP). We have had the great experience of using some awesome instruments (a
Rhodes, an analog synth, an organette and a *cough* tambourine), we’ve had some
great musical and vocal help from friends, we’ve negotiated artistic and
reflexive conflict on a city bus following a field recording in NDG with an
upright piano, and we’ve overcome concerns that vocals were not sounding
“badass enough,” or too “barfy,” like muppets, or a “musical theatre villain.”
As of now, things are sounding great (or “epic,” or “totally epic”), and a HUGE
thanks goes out to everyone who has been involved in the process so far,
especially Marty (who has taught us much about recording, reverb, and affinity/infinity
groups). Stay posted for news about release dates and show dates.
.. ..

Want to get your hands on a copy of On Bodies' debut EP "Throat Demos"? We've donated our tunes to the Lickety Split auction. Here's what the good folks at Lickety Split have to say for themselves:
Cum one, cum all! This fabulous, volunteer-run zine is quite expensive to create and needs your support! We are asking you and your friends to bid on the generously donated items in this on-line auction to raise funds and help recoup printing costs. Our fund raising goal this issue is $3000, which is how much it costs to print Lickety Split 5. Our launch date is for November 3rd! So help out in the way that you can! Lickety Split zine has been working hard for over four years to represent the pansexual and sex-positive community of Montreal in a way that is handmade and unique. Auction open until October 18th. Forward this to at least 5 of your friends! Start bidding now!

On Friday, May 18th On Bodies will be playing @ Main Hall as part of the super fabulous Anarchist Cabaret, a fundraiser for Montreal's infamous Anarchist Bookfair. Other bands/acts include Marnie and Melissa, Sara Mangle, Alden Penner, Paula Belina, Amal El Masri, and Please Don't Put Charles on The Money.
If that wasn't exciting enough, On Bodies will also be launching a five song EP entitled "Throat Demos" which will be available at the show. Recorded in the winter of 2007, "Throat Demos" is On Bodies' first collection of songs and comes in a hand-printed limited edition sleeve. Thanks to Marty and Nick @ Secret Maoist Radio Repair for the recordings, and Farah from house4road9.com for the stunning design.
On a more sombre note, May 18th will also be James' last show with On Bodies. So everybody come on out and show James some On Bodies love. I'm sure he'd appreciate it!
