As much fun as their recordings are, it's during their live shows that EAR PWR truly shines. Armed with only a suitcase of synths and a megaphone, their enthusiasm and mutual admiration sparks into a fun-loving barrage of body-moving electro and infectious silliness that's hard to ignore. Sarah lays down rap-style vocals and simple melodies that glide easily over the beats to become unshakably ingrained in your psyche for days on end. Devin, the seemingly innocent hype man, bobs and weaves in-and-out of the crowd like a man possessed, while frantically spewing his dance floor sales pitch, punctuating Sarah's vocals and generally rousing the rabble like a an Afro-ed pied piper. EAR PWR's sonic aesthetic has never sounded more enticing than on their new record Super Animal Brothers III. They have blended together bits of Italo Disco, Baltimore Club, and twee indie pop to create a nuclear party grenade that is sure to blow your mind.

Schwervon! Is a two piece rock band. Nan and Matt have been a couple longer than they have been a band. Their relationship influences their art. Their art influences their relationship. They are two birds of a different feather. You might say one flies and one rolls and they meet in the middle with two halves of the worm. They are a collaboration. Is one Sonny and one Cher? Is one a pop lover and one a noise lover? Why do they both love food so much? Why are they obsessed with their cat Gummo?

They started making up songs soon after they met amongst the fertile Indie Rock gutters of New York City, with Nan pounding the drums (learning to play, she figured, would happen as she went along - which it did) and Matt reawakening his high school electric guitar rockability. Their music is a celebration of imperfect love through jagged rock minimalism. Sometimes they write lyrics on the train. Sometimes they steal lines from eavesdropping on other people's conversations. They were DIY long before it was a marketing strategy, mixing and recording the bulk of their music in their cramped little apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. They call it Olive Juice Music.

Waves of bass loops are garnished with harmonica drones and constant improvisational exploration. Deep-sea-diving for the hungry and alone. While certainly following in the footstep of great bassists like Mingus and Meyer, Boyd’s aesthetic sensibility also seeks to wed the minimalism of Reich and Riley with what might be called the maximalism of Beethoven's chamber music. Add some Moondog, Authur Russell, Godspeed, Eluvium. But with the improvisational prowess culled from jazz. JONQUIL formed from the ashes of many teenage bands who never really made it out of Oxford. Lions is the sound of a band not so much finding their feet as striding headlong into something great. Much of this record is made up of grand glorious songs; anthemic and timeless in the best possible sense. These tracks are mirrored by tender, subtle and intimate moments; woozy late-night dreamlike passages. Having been asked to play with the likes of A Silver Mt. Zion, Lightspeed Champion, Spoon and many more in the last few years. In November of last year Jonquil were featured as the weekly ‘Take Away Show’ on La Blogotheque, a popular French blog. PINK MOTH is a new project centered around its main creative force, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist RAY CAMMAERT. After years of touring and making critically acclaimed records as a key member of Maps of the Night Sky, new material written in solitude indicated a different approach was necessary. The result is an intimate and honest presentation of the evolution of a songwriter and his craft. Recorded at the band's own Tinshop Studios and mixed by Andy Magoffin (Great Lake Swimmers, Constantines, Jim Guthrie) at his House of Miracles studio, this collection of songs is a melancholic, minimalist affair. Tempos shift and dynamics play beneath a dark, stream-of-concious narrative, ever-expansive in it's imagery and breadth, but it is the deft use of saw, organ, french horn, and violin that give these defiant hymnals their eerie, twilight quality.

Swarms of fragmented voices mouth melodies through home made microphones while contact-mic’ed Kalimba’s fight for breath in seas of beautifully damaged technicolour, granulated shotgun beats fire from sniper positions in foreboding atmospheres- AND YET armies of glockenspiels, brass and casio’s remind us that everything will, in fact, be ok- As a founding member of Icelandic art collective Kitchen Motors, audio/visual artist Kira Kira has been a pivotal figure in contemporary Icelandic music. She has composed music extensively for theatre, dance and film and created a myriad of sound and video installations everywhere from Beijing to New York. Taking a particular interest in blurring the lines of visual and performing arts Kira has appeared in all kinds of curious venues; in church towers, gallery spaces, abandoned prisons, croatian breweries and various other curious places, creating lasting images of singing black holes, dueling smoke machines, kite symphonies and exploding cassette tapes across the globe.

TINY VIPERS is Jesy Fortino, a musician living in Seattle. Since her last and first album, 2007’s Hands Across the Void, she has been back and forth across Europe, on tours into and through the United States, transfixing audiences into a solemn hush. Transcending the mere folk tag (“She’s not telling stories; she’s after incantation and trance”—New York Times), Fortino draws from disparate inspirational sources, from the avant-garde or from country musician Townes Van Zandt. Recordings for the new album began at home and were then interpreted by Andrew Hernandez in a classic analog studio in Austin, TX. Retaining both the glow of her work on guitar and the strength of her voice, Hernandez has captured the organic nature mirrored in the concepts of the album. LITTLE PICTURES sind ein Bedroom-Synth-Pop Duo aus Wellington, Neuseeland, bestehend aus Mark Turner und Johanna Freeman. Sie leben und studieren in einer kleinen Stadt am Meer, wo sie an ihren Synthies Tracks zusammenbasteln, bei denen sie mit ihrem neuseeländischen Akzent über eingestreute Hip-Hop-Beats singen. Saxophon, Glockenspiel, Sampler und live Power-Points sind allesamt Teil ihrer wunderbar schrägen, reizenden Welt. In Neuseeland gehören sie zum Lil' Chief Kollektiv, in dem sie mit anderen Künstlern wie The Ruby Suns, The Brunettes, Lawrence Arabia nicht nur ihre Ideen austauschen, sondern auch Essen und Wohnraum teilen. UMIUMI aka Anna Berglund is a mixture of sweet electro songs and confusion. She, stationed in Stockholm makes all of her songs and recordings in a small apartment in Bagarmossen. Her music is descried such as lullabies for grownups. With a smile she writes mostly about sex, laughs and her lyrics seems to be in a sort of happy depression. 21:30 Anois (Electronica) Lars Kranholdt and Anne Baier are Anois. Two voices that maybe remind you of your own lost heart or of your traces in the cold white snow, when it's winter outside. It looks simple, but it really takes some time to understand. They have been joined by Daniel Kranholdt. The music of Anois is complex though this few instruments because of these fragile elements, which sound also timid, but built this strong and great atmosphere, where you can hide if the days need to be muted. 22:30 The Innits (IndiPop) THE INNITS songs oscillate between scarce and opulent instrumentation, thus mirroring the impulsive and wayward lyrics. Here and there, clarinets, saxophones and cellos make an apparition, just to give way to psychedelic sixties harmonies or to the evocation of a dance band in glitter suits. The result are 13 timeless tracks, which –despite said variety– sound as if they had a common origin. Eclecticism is something else. If you were to name the red thread of the album, that would have to be its nostalgic folk atmosphere. Continuously, a soft spot for the simple, clearly structured song shines through: no frills and not a note too many. Mek Obaam –singer, songwriter, drummer and frontman of THE INNITS– writes lyrics finding their source in the vast lands between everyday life and apocalypse. His view is an external one and could not be further away from being self-righteous. He is, however, self-aware to a very high degree – aware in particular of the things he does not want to be or have or the things that he is not capable of zbs. (‘What I’m not’). LITTLE PICTURES sind ein Bedroom-Synth-Pop Duo aus Wellington, Neuseeland, bestehend aus Mark Turner und Johanna Freeman. UMIUMI aka Anna Berglund is a mixture of sweet electro songs and confusion. She, stationed in Stockholm makes all of her songs and recordings in a small apartment in Bagarmossen. Her music is descried such as lullabies for grownups. With a smile she writes mostly about sex, laughs and her lyrics seems to be in a sort of happy depression. the GENTILE ACT INCIDENT was born on the west coast of Sweden in the fall of 2002 in Gothenburg. The singer and former of the band, David, had grown tired of daydreaming in the metal factory where he worked and decided to do something with his musical ideas, other than bang bang. The band finds its inspiration from the 90’s Mid West Emo scene and forms it into their own Nordic style. The result is smart melodic guitar melodies with the melancholic voice of David which is the grounding and sound of the Gentle act incident.   PETER BRODERICK// the multi talented multi instrumentalist will be in Schokoladen to grace us with yet another amazing show on June 4th. Coming originally from Oregon, Peter has played and toured with numerous groups from Portland and has established himself as a regular session musician for numerous recording studios, adding violin, banjo, musical saw, mandolin etc to artists such as M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Dolorean, and many more. As a child he studied classical violin, but over time he has collected many different instruments, learning to play them one by one. In mid 2007, Peter was invited by some of his heroes, the Danish ensemble Efterklang, to move to Copenhagen and join their live band. And so he dropped his entire life in Portland and moved across the world. His album “Home” is a record of quietly breathtaking beauty, a gentle and subtle record which reveals its magic gradually over the course of many listens. In the heart of Canada’s largest city, FOREST CITY LOVERS, Kat Burns
(vocals/guitar/piano), Kyle Donnelly (bass/guitar/vocals), Mika Posen
(violin/piano/vocals) and Christian Ingelevics... have strived to tame
the urban wilderness and add some melody to the chaos. Their recent album, Haunting Moon Sinking straddles the line between heartbreakingly beautiful and intimately powerful. FCL explore themes of love and life with lush and poignant orchestration. With members of Ohbijou, Snailhouse, Hylozoists, the Pill and other Toronto talents filling out chorused vocals and swelling string arrangements, Haunting Moon Sinking Stepps into a natural progression from the band’s previous effort.
