1. What prompted you to begin working in multimedia?
Because we have equally high sensitivity for the sound and for the visuals and dealing with the area of new media gives us unlimited opportunity to mix you would think unthinkable to blend qualities. Apart from that we love to experiment. And finally magic function of Ctrl+Z(Undo) that doesn't exist in the natural environment.
2. Do you feel VJing is under-appreciated in clubland?
We are confident that our style had been shaped by the club scene that we've been developing with and we've been its integral part. We made our first steps in 2000 in Warsaw clubs. Since then there have been many changes in music, design, and fashion as well as in technology involving new media (just look at the still growing number of new softwares used for mixing live images).
In many clubs in Europe VJ is treated equally with DJ having specially designed place with the special set – up and a few VJ are usally included in the line-up for the night. We hope it's going to start in Sydney soon. We work hard on it …
3. When you work with DJs, what style of music do you find best compliments your visuals?
We are open to various types of music co-operating with a few modern music composers, DJ's communities, jazz bands.
For us the best mixing is with break beats. Syncope is fabulous! But working mostly in clubs we are "victims" of house music.
3. What role does interactivity play in your performances?
Great role obviously. We often work with security cams, we use midi controllers and softwares using analysis of sound to drive visuals.
The live blue box has been our most interesting interactive creation until now. The audience had become an interactive part in this visual composition.
4. How has your work expanded further than the club circuit, and what new media are you experimenting with?
It came totally natural to us. We've always been interested in what has been happening in the modern art. Apart from that we graduated Arts University and we have always been looking for new creative spaces. We would love to establish contact with some Australian dance theatres open to electronic media. We are currently working on interactive project with the use of movement sensors.
5. Give us an idea of what to expect from your installation for Sydney Esquisse.
Our presence at Sydney Esquisse is of a dual nature.
Mondays and Tuesdays we project our animation on the 8 meters screen in Cafe Sydney. It's more of a social character activity. Anyone can approach us to have a talk or a glass of wine with us and get familiar with our VJ's craft.
Within festival on Saturdays we are going to build a video sculpture on the ground level of Customs House Building for all festival participants. It's going to be a transparent form. We will use animation artworks of Frost Design Studio to highlight it.
