This will still be a gorgeous night of music as Loren and Natalie are amazing! Plus we've got stacks of new songs that we're super excited to play for you. Georgia Potter: 2009 east coast tour and live recording Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Northern NSW, Gold & Sunshine Coasts ‘fresh folk, philosophy & soul’ Jumping in the whirlpool of the touring season is Brisbane folk/soul artist Georgia Potter, touring from late October through to December with her full band in tow, taking in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Northern NSW and the Gold & Sunshine Coasts. The tour steps off the back of her debut release Living the Grey and is part of her next recorded endeavour – a live recording of her homecoming Brisbane show at The Troubadour on November 22, due for release in time for the final leg of the tour at the Woodford Folk Festival.
Georgia’s vibrant, fresh mix of folk, philosophy & soul echoes the likes of Hollie Smith, Lauryn Hill & Laura Marling, however her charm is completely her own. Her performances capture a candid grandeur that is endearing, addictive and powerful. Headed further down the path of neo-soul, her new sound is a mix of the gritty and the lush, the unsuspected and the seductively simple, thoroughly founded upon poetry and philosophy.
Georgia’s skills however aren’t limited to the stage. In January 2009 she wrote, recorded and produced the release of her debut mini-album Living the Grey which features seven of her compositions, an array of Brisbane talent and is just one example of Georgia’s abilities as a visual artist. Since its release Living the Grey has had strong support from Triple J’s Roots N All and Home & Hosed programs and was ‘featured’ on the Triple J Unearthed website and podcast. Works from the mini-album have also subsequently featured on Quicksilver Pro France coverage and selected for various compilations such as A-Venue’s Creative Juices CD, fRETfEST’s Best Of, Island Vibe Festival & West End Carnivale Compilation CDs. You may also recognise her as a band member of Laneous & the Family-Yah, Yeo & the Fresh Goods and The Cool Calm Collective.
Now a solid four piece, the band’s set shifts between punchy grooves and still, spine-tingling moments, featuring well loved tracks such as ‘Take it Down’ & ‘More for Yourself’ plus a host of brand new material that is sure to surprise. Her new works are a testimony to both Georgia’s adventurousness as an artist and her maturity as a songwriter. The smattering of shows up and down the east coast encompasses intimate theatre-esque venues and rowdy outdoor festivals with such highlights as performances at Island Vibe Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and gigs with lineups including Matt Kelly & The Keepers, The Little Stevies and Simone White (USA).

Georgia
Potter: debut mini-album
launch January 25 at
the Troubadour &
January 30 at The Soundlounge
(Currumbin)
followed by dates on the Sunshine Coast &
Northern NSW.
‘fresh
folk, philosophy & soul’
The release of Georgia’s long awaited debut
recording is the culmination of several personal milestones for the 20
year-old Brisbane artist. Having been the main contributor
in all areas of its assembly, from the writing & performing, to the
production, engineering and even the artwork, this mini-album marks the
completion of Georgia’s Audio Production degree with the Conservatorium and a
‘Do-It-Yourself’ venture that had been in the pipeline for some time
now.
Stylistically a mixture of folk, soul, roots and
occasionally reggae & hip-hop, the recording shifts between the timeless
singer/songwriter style to a groove-heavy full band sound.
Teaming lush production with intimate, close & raw performances,
Georgia’s standout vocal delivers fresh perspectives on issues of cultural
identity, tradition, love and loss, balancing criticism & optimism, poetry
& melody, humour & humanity, culminating in a record that is both
hard-hitting & mellow.
Track six, Take it Down, features on the
2008 Island Vibe Festival Compilation CD & received national airplay on
Triple J. The recording also features musicians from a variety of Brisbane
bands including Kafka, Mr. Laneous & the Family-Yah, Grassroots Street
Orchestra & The Cool Calm Collective.
As an artist going beyond politics, Georgia
explores philosophy & the human condition with a depth of understanding
& insight that is fresh, original & surprising.
With her live shows being equally as strong as the recorded product,
she is proving to be an artist with the courage to be honest & personal,
wild & ridiculous and to be always pushing her own boundaries.
