Last week we got the privilege to jam one of New Orleans' most historic venues with some killer bands (The Revivalists and Flow Tribe) out of New Orleans. Check out the review from the show on Groovescapes.com

Alabama’s Hightide Blues took the stage, and (let me tell you) they wasted no time setting the night on fire. These good ol’ southern boys sure knew a thing or two about straight-up, no frills, barefoot, ass-kicking rock n’ roll. Over the course of their set, they bounded all across the stage, blasting rugged roadhouse blues, scathing southern rock, and rumbling alt-country. Like madmen, they were completely reckless, but like seasoned rock veterans, they reveled in every moment, never once hesitating as they drove headlong over the edge. Guitarist Jonathan Pears’ playing was completely epic – part Jimmy Page and part Nels Cline – pure, free roaming, classic rock thunder. And frontman Paul McDonald’s rambunctious spirit and brawny rasp gave the crowd just the kick they needed to embrace the uproar.

Hightide Blues to Rock the Moon
by Rebecca Thoreson
The Telluride Watch: Telluride, Colorado

Be sure to check out Hightide Blues at the Moon. A relatively new band, Hightide Blues is on the upward spiral, with their edgy, southern style gaining them huge recognition. Pairing acoustic and electric guitars with a driving rhythm section, the band has been selling out shows across the Southeast, and wowed crowds at last year’s Bonnaroo Festival. Hightide Blues released their terrific second EP, Love Come Easy, last year, which was recorded at the House of David Studios in Nashville, where such legendary performers as Elvis, Neil Young and B.B. King have laid down tracks. The band is getting attention across the country, having shared the stage with the likes of Donavon Frankenrieter, Sister Hazel, Karl Denson and others.

This Evening/Tonight: Hightide Blues at Cactus Music and the Mink

Houston Press: Houston, Texas

If you like your Southern rock with liberal doses of B-3 and a lotta bluesy swagger, try on Atlanta-via-Auburn, Alabama, quartet Hightide Blues on for size. After a couple of MySpace listens, HTB seems seem best suited for the same full-tilt boogie as the Allman Brothers (try "Katie Can You Hear Me"), but can downshift into acoustic Jack Johnson territory ("Dreamin' Alone"), which, coupled with their fresh-faced college-boy looks, should win the foursome its fair share of female fans. (Rocks Off thought for sure there'd be more beards in the band.) And, by titling one song "Black Crows," HTB obviously has a sense of both history and humor.

Together since 2006, HTB released its second EP, Love Come Easy, last June and has been building a considerable buzz throughout the Southeast; the band played Bonnarroo last year and headline regularly at famed Atlanta venue Smith's Olde Bar. Houstonians, lucky devils that we are, get two chances to see HTB today: a free 6 p.m. in-store at Cactus Music and late-night at the Mink. Be warned: they have a video called "Will Jam for Food," so bring a lighter or two.
