Thanks to everybody who played, cheered and read at the late night venue at the Beverley Folk Festival. We had some great sets by Billy Bragg, Cole Porters, Tanglefoot, Curtis Eller and Reg Meuros, as well as John Hegley and Rory Motion. It was a great atmosphere there and lots of people came each night to see what was happening. I must say I am really proud of our little tent - it's come on a long way since 2007 when we launched it with, and is now a really great venue with quality acts all the way. My thanks to Pete Rolinson and Larry Knee and all the guys at Beverley Arts Trust for making it happen. Tonight I am really tired but feel grateful to be involved in such a great venture.
Onwards !

Tonight I am in Crewe visiting my old friend Kev Watson and shooting the breze. Tomorrow I am storytelling at a school in Tushingam.

cheers for now...

Next weekend I will be playing an acoustic set at Wychwood Festival. The festival takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse and acts on the bill include Supergrass, Super Furry Animals, Cara Dillon and the excellent Bellowhead. I'm quite excited because Carol Ann Duffy, the poet laureate, will also be there. Anyway I'm playing on Saturday evening. If you are there come and say hi !

Tonight played at Pocklington Arts Centre, supporting Wishbone Ash at their sold out gig. The contrasts were obvious - me on my own with an acoustic guitar, while they were doing their twin lead guitar thing. But it seemed to work. What was great was the audience really listened. That makes such a difference. You feel appreciated as an act. I couldn't resist a gag about the whole Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand debacle, which is, depending on your point of view, entirely justified or a ridiculously overblown affair. Does it really merit the Prime Minister's attention ? Or was he just jumping on the bandwagon ? Anyway, I digress. Pocklington was great, and my thanks to the team there for having me along. This weekend they have Michelle Shocked playing which should be a top gig.
Today I got hold of a copy of BBC Ariel magazine, with my interview with "Sally Traffic" in it. There was a great photo of her in it - she looked fab, with a great hairdo and a lovely smile.
Tomorrow I'm recording "Next Week's News" with Matt Seymour for friday's output on Radio York.

Cheers for now

Got a royalty statement through the other day from AWAL (Artists without a licence), who help with my digital sales. I have accrued an additional nine english pence, following the sale of a track on iTunes. I am, of course, flushed with this wonderful turn of events, and intend to invest the 9 pence on a state of the art digital studio. 9p should be plenty, right ?

Went to the Speaker's Corner event last night at Stonegate in York to plug my Melton's Too poetry and music bash on 1st October. It was gratifyingly packed full of people wanting to read their work. The usual suspects were there but there were also a lot of faces I didn't recognise, which is terrific. Andy and Oz might need to look for a new venue if this carries on !

The Melton's too gig takes place on October 1st and will cost you a whacking £1.00 to get in. Do come along it will be a good evening !

What happened to summer ? Here we are and it is August 31st. Apparently it has been the dullest August on record. I can believe it. As I type this, outside the yard sniggers with drizzle and the sky is a dirty grey colour. Grrrrr. British summers ! No wonder people are leaving the UK to live elsewhere...

Got back from Greenbelt last tuesday. Another great festival. Really enjoyed it. Heard some good music, especially Julie Lee, Seth Lakeman, Beth Rowley and Juliet Turner. I caught up with some old Hull friends, too, which was really good.

Tomorrow I am playing support to Snake Davis at the Processed Pea Club at Etton. Hope to see you there !
