Current mood: busy
Unfortunately we here at VictimofTime don't have the time and resources to book every single good band that passes through the Midwest.
BUT! since we've gone to the tremendous effort of compiling a near complete list of viable venues in Chicago (and most other towns around the country), you have all the hard parts behind you, so please read on and sure enough, you'll easily book your own great shows in our fair city.
1. The Date you are looking for. As you may already know, the majority of folks that regularly attend live music shows in Chicago don't necessarily jump at the chance to go out on some nights of the week, due to the fact that there are TONS of great shows here, basically every week. So with that taken into consideration, it's very wise to book your band in Chicago on a Wednesday-Saturday night, versus a Sunday-Tuesday night, or be ready to expect a low turnout (and in the winter months of December-March, expect even less), not based on your band, but on the simple fact that there are so many good shows here, it doesn't feel bad to miss out on a few. Playing Chicago on a Monday night in February? Probably not a good idea if you need gas money.
2. The Venue to pick. We mainly work with a few select venues that we feel treat the bands well and have the spirit of rock'n roll at least somewhere kicking around in their souls. Keep an eye on the VoT site and look at what venues we normally host our monthly shows with and you'll get the idea. It's very easy to contact these venues and if you mention that you found the venue through the VoT site, it might even help with a booking situation, or help you jump on an pre-existing show.
3. Check the current schedule and try not to play conflicting shows if possible. Another situation that comes up a lot here are when good, complimenting bands play shows opposite each other on the same night, just because they weren't aware of the other show. With VoT, we've made it really easy for you to see who else is playing the night you're trying to book. We have instant links to every venue website on our front page, so check it out first and try to combine shows if possible, or risk even lower turnouts, which only detracts from band $$ and can result in a crappy time overall.
4. We only have so much we can do, sorry. Sadly, we can really only host about 1-2 shows per month max as "Victim of Time presents" showcases, and if we already have one or two listed, it's best to try and do it yourself as we get spread thin pretty easy and only have so much energy. Not many cities have a venue directory as complete and all-encompassing as we've put together, so please use the site to your full advantage and get us your listings so we can get them posted. If you need help with local support band suggestions, let us know and we'll help out any way we can.
email us your show listings here: info@victimoftime.com and we should have the next phase of VoT ready in a few weeks, where you can actually list your OWN shows on our site, it's gonna be a big improvement.
thanks!

Once a term coined by the VoT staff while sniffing glue and trying to listen to surf music played at the wrong speed, the term 'Glue Wave' was concieved when encapsulating the new sounds emanating from the French Undreground. We thought it was funny, they're taking it seriously... Read about the French Revolution from May 2006 here: 21 Century French PUNQUEand the Village Voice's adaptation of the term in September 2007: HERE

Submitted by J Wallace on Mon, 06/25/2007 - 22:58. Victim Of Time is my new short-duration favorite site of all time. It's especially useful for the traveling live show fiend; at first glance, I thought this was a Chicago-specific site, but a pulldown venue menu shows a large number other scenes, including Austin, Akron, Bellingham, Denver, and tons more. Select your destination city, click away and your live music agenda will soon be full. I gave this site my patented J. Wallace torture test. How many crap venues can fit on one calendar? I am pleased to report that VoT passes my most stringent test: Austin's legendary Emo's was on the venue list, while most of the crap-ass 6th Street watering holes are gloriously absent. I was sad that Hole In The Wall wasn't on the list, but it's been a few years and last time I was there, that glorious example of truth in advertising was running into a bit of trouble. Hope it still exists. For Chicago indie-lovers, Victim Of Time is a nice clearinghouse for shows round these parts, including Empty Bottle, Darkroom, and Mutiny. I myself will be forced to miss the Friday Psychedelic Furs show with opening Chi-town act The Dials at the HoB, but you should go see thatshow to catch the Dials in action. Nice stuff by those Dials. Forget that it's at the House of Blues and check it out anyway. The sound system is better than the Metro and if you get there early, you can enjoy a drink or two before the crush of ding-dongs starts making you claustrophobic. No, I don't enjoy crowds.
