Dear Friends,

I am writing to invite you to a truly special event happening next week.  No, this is not a new party or club-night, but rather a benefit event for an organization that I have been involved with for most of my life, and one that is very close to my heart.

Please join me next Wednesday, July 29th for Privacy After Dark, an event benefitting the Privacy PAC of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

NARAL is an amazing organization that has led the fight for choice and privacy for over 40 years.  This event is specifically raising funds for the Privacy PAC, a political action committee that provides resources to political candidates who support privacy in all arenas, including the right of a woman to choose.  In the last year, the Privacy PAC has supported pro-choice candidates in six statewide races, won four, and flipped three seats from anti- to pro-choice legislators; this is an amazing accomplishment in the preservation of our fundamental right to privacy!

Privacy After Dark is Wednesday, July 29th @ Etiquette Lounge (1108 Market St.) from 6-8pm
It is casual, will include a DJ, drinks, and food, and is easily accessible from MUNI/BART and is early enough to not conflict with other nightlife plans you might have.  I will also be sending out a Facebook invite so you can have it in your FB Events.

What I love about this event is that it is designed specifically for our generation, young people who are usually unable to participate in philanthropy or political donations due to the financial restrictions of being young and living in an expensive city.  The cost of this event is substantially lower than any other benefit I've ever seen, and is a unique opportunity to support a meaningful and important cause, while not having to break your bank and also getting to attend a fantastic event to mingle with like-minded people!

On a personal note, I am grateful and humbled to be a part of such an important event.  I had the fortune of being born into a world in which my civil rights had been fought for (and won) by my parents' and grandparents' generations.  I have the right to vote, to choose, to privacy.  Yet, as we have all witnessed with the recent struggle for gay marriage, civil rights are under attack, hard fought over a long time, and can become precarious at any moment.  I do not want my privilege to turn into apathy on my part, nor that of my fellow 20-somethings.

A ticket is only $25, and includes hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary drink.  I encourage you to donate more if you are able to, or to purchase tickets for your friends who you think might be interested (donation levels are listed on the invite).  If you cannot attend, you can still make a much appreciated donation.

**please note: you MUST pre-order your ticket by RSVPing here .
you cannot pay at the door!
you can also purchase your ticket by contacting my dear friend Meghan Doran
(415.890.1020 or mdoran@prochoiceamerica.org)

I know many of us are not used to, or have an aversion to pre-ordering, but I ask you to please purchase your ticket now and mark this special date on your calendars.  I hope you can all make your attendance at this event a priority, and feel good that you are able to easily have a positive effect on the political process.

If you have any questions or would like to talk more about NARAL, privacy, or reproductive rights, please do not hesitate to contact me.
And please forward this email to your friends!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Emily Betty Ehrlich

More information on NARAL Pro-Choice America

For decades, NARAL has led the fight for women's choice and privacy through engaging people, politics and policy in this important and deeply personal issue.

People:  NARAL  Pro-Choice California has over 165,000 members and activists state-wide -- helping young  Californians ta..ke ownership of their future by  providing them with electoral information, guidance on prevention, and informing them of their fundamental rights to privacy.

Politics:  Politicians should not interfere with our private medical decisions, including the right to choose.  That decision should be left to a woman, her doctor, her family and her God.  In a private survey, 77% of respondents agree that a government and politicians should stay out of a woman's personal and private decision of whether or not to have an abortion.  PrivacyPAC raises money and contributes to important statewide campaigns in which an issue of choice is at stake in order to ensure that right is never stripped from women.

Policy:  There is common ground in this debate.  We should all support commonsense ways to prevent unintended pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion.  Access to birth control, honest, medically accurate sex education and ensuring pharmacists fill prescriptions are just some of the ways policy protects the right to choose, while reducing the need for abortions.

Category: Life
This blog is way past due, but better late than never, right?

I just want to say the biggest THANK YOU ever to everyone who made my birthday weekend unforgettable and more than I ever could have asked for. Thanks to Jefro & Panic for DJing, thank you BT @ the Mezz for hooking me up at the Mint Lounge, thank you to Nissa for managing, thank you to Ian & my mom (who I pray to God does not look up my myspace, but still) for the sickeningly sweet speeches (and to my mom for also paying for all the champagne for everyone), thank you to John Liau and Chelsea for taking photographs, thank you to Rose for dancing with my very drunk father, to all my best friends for the fun dinner at Foreign Cinema, and especially to the ladies who partied with me at the St. Francis. The night was so awesome between the music, the limo, the cupcakes, the party dresses, and most of all, the company.

Then, as if the party wasn't enough, a big THANK YOU to my fucking awesome girlfriends who surprised me by getting the Spa Suite at the phenomenal Nob Hill Spa where we spent the whole day lounging, hottubbing, drinking champagne, and getting spa treatments. Most of all thank you to Elise-Marie who organized the whole thing. I was on cloud nine and was super touched (not to mention the 80 minute Thai coconut massage that was AWESOME).

Reflecting on all of this, I just have to say: I HAVE THE BEST PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE WORLD AS MY FRIENDS. I love all of you, not just the people mentioned in this blog, but all of you who I consider my friends. This world has so many lame people in it; to find real gems of friendship is rare and I consider myself very lucky. Right now when I think about my life and the people in it, I'm so stoked and pumped to have such quality not to mention quantity of friends who I am so in love with.

Looking back on the last almost 3 years I've spent in running around the bars and clubs of this crazy city, I've had such a blast and I owe it all to the extraordinary friends I've made in the process. The closing of the Arrow, it really made me feel so emotional about all my friends, most of which I've met there in that cavernous dive bar on that dirtyass dancefloor. That was a special time and I've come away with so many memories with so many people who matter to me. All of it just makes me so happy . . .

Anyway, that is all. You can now return to the myspace blackhole of clubnight bulletins and gossipy blogs. All I'm saying is that I'M SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW.
