A long story about alot of mistakes
Humeur actuelle : accomplished
Catégorie : Music

So here I sit finalizing permits, ADA requirements and construction costs. All of a sudden, I just stop for a second and reflect. Almost 10 months to the day I came up with this wacky idea. I remember being so excited I took everyone I thought could help me to Buca Di Beppo (Great Italian Resturant) to talk it all out. From that moment on just about everything that could go wrong did. I was warned by some very talented Consultant, management and promotions companies of all the pitfalls. I would not listen, I wish I would have. Life would have been alot easier. They really knew how hard it was going to be to pull this off. And even though I have altered my original plans more times then I can remember, I would not give up. I learned something from all of this. People in this business just like to say no. Maybe they have been through a lot. Maybe they have seen too many people fail. I was told once that so many people that approach them with ideas are just not even speaking honestly about their plans. Maybe that's why it's so hard, too many lies. But I would not quit. I have been threatened, cursed and generally laughed at for trying to do this. One band member told me he was going to "have sex with my eye socket" (you know who you are). Delays and mistakes made it very hard for everyone. Bands took holidays only to have the time lost because of a new problem. But I wouldn't quit. One band member lost his house for sometime because he rented it out expecting to make it here. Another delay. I believe he was in the same band that wanted to "have sex with my eye socket". So maybe I don't blame him much for his direct sexual approach. Homeland security has made it very hard for most plans I had. But I still wouldn't quit. So here I am working out the details with sponsors and travel agents for plane tickets to band members from other countries to fly to San Diego, spend a week with us then go home. Yes even the band that wants "sex with my eye socket". Eventually they will all come to San Diego. It may not be a month like I wanted. But I will get them here. I was told I should never reveal all the problems. But I thought people should know how hard this was to do. So now here I sit in my office looking at a photo of my new building and I just can't help but think, why didn't I quit? So many things went wrong. What kept me going? I think I have the answer to that question. My love for live Indie music. I can't wait to hear 'Through The Eyes Of Eve', a great Australian band play at Avalon. And all the bands that won our contest. Yes I know even the highly sexed band! I want to see them teach and learn from some of the greatest San Diego bands like 'Get Back Loretta' It just going to be great to see. Through it all there have been some people that stuck by me, that believed in my dream. And without them I would not be here right now with all this fantastic paper work in front of me! I would just Like to mention a few now. The list of help will most likely increase as I think more on it.

Sheryl Mandel:

IPR Integrity PR. You need help with anything in the entertainment world. See her first.

Susan Norseth:

Avalon Global Productions Chief Executive Officer, I remember when we first talked about this idea in an old Granit warehouse. She has stuck by me from the start.

Chelsea Flor:

Singer/ Songwritter, There was many a night I talked her ear off. Allways had a differnt way to look at things. Kindred Spirt, Just a wonderful person to know.

Tony Editor From LitMus Magazine:

What can I say about this man, Graphic Artist, Philosopher, and just a very nice guy. Never wavered. Loved this idea from the beginning. And this man has be threw alot, More then most. Why he stuck by me I my never know.

The Slugger Trask Band:

During our many conversations in the early months Slugger said some things to me on the phone that kept me going. His faith in me was so strong. He drove from Oklahoma at my darkest hour to stand by my side. Sluggers Bass Player Mark Lockhart, well lets just say they don't make true friends like that anymore.

Steve The Photoman:

I talked with many photographers about helping us, but Steve was unconditionally in. Loves what he does and is very good at it. What a true believer!

Los Karma:

A fantastic band from Mexico that won a spot in the competition, man what strength and energy they have. They were lied to by people that worked with me. But they never lost hope in my dream.

Ronny North:

The best guitarist I have heard in a long time! The guy knows me from nowhere, he has played most major clubs in L.A. He needs this problem like a hole in the head. But from day one he has been on board. Alot of very good advice to help me get threw the Bullshit. The first to post on his page about playing at Avalon.

Vibracore:

They didn't make the final 4, and may not get a chance to play in San Diego, But they have been a inspiration to all of us at Avalon. This band is just as good as any of the top four. And somehow I will do what I can to get them here.

Royal Bubble Orchestra:

This French band never once, Gave up hope! And they just flat out ROCK!

Buca Di Beppo:

Who supplied the meal for all of us that faithful night when it all started. All I can say here is just great Italian food!

I know there has been a lot more, and I want to thank you all for staying with me on this dream. And I hope to see you all in July when we launch Avalon the new place in town to hear great bands from all over the world!

Avalon GP is offering four tiers of sponsorships that correspond to the rankings of our eight final contenders to be determined by our online voting process that ends on December 1, 2007.

We will be accepting a total of only thirty-two financial sponsors. While we are experiencing an unexpected level of interest from potential sponsors, we must limit our collaborations to a level of tactical execution that we are confident we can fulfill with our current professional staff, new hires, trained volunteers and the core leaders of our bands' street teams.

Our achievement of the highest production values, independent musician support and sponsor collaboration takes precedence over securing financial backing for February and March. Any sponsorship offered after our thirty-two spots are filled will be put on our highly valued first-refusal waiting list for February, March...and beyond!

However, we are open to discussions with local merchants and small businesses for in-kind donations of staffing, food and merchandise.

All of our thirty-two financial sponsors will receive access to all of Avalon's marketing and community service opportunities.
The difference between tiers of financial support is in the prominence of the sponsors' marketing messages and the amount of time and energy our professional staff can devote to sponsor requests for collaboration with their internal marketing staff or agency strategic and tactical teams.

A $5,000 and $10,000 level financial support sponsor can expect accountability and professional execution of tactical efforts to advance the market penetration of their image, logo, values of community support and product positioning. Joint press releases will be distributed at the highest level possible within our budget, but individualized media relations will be limited to a small but expertly targeted list of media contacts.

Our $25,000 and $50,000 sponsors can expect results oriented strategic collaboration with their in-house or agency marketing, corporate communications and media relations team. Top tier sponsors' commitment to independent musicians and community participation will receive extensive grateful recognition by the founder of Avalon Promotions and core team of marketing and executive professionals.

Marc Shannon, founder of Avalon Promotions and a lifelong supporter of independent musicians and live music venues, envisioned a month long music jam in an old-school San Diego warehouse with locally successful bands: four domestic Indie Bands from Southern California and four imports will collaborate and perform in a unique underground music pressure cooker and intense performance venue.

As more and more local and international supporters became excited by the global scope of contenders for the final eight spots on the tour, a core team of highly dedicated and skilled music industry, art world, and marketing and communications professionals became firmly committed to making Marc's vision become reality. Our mission is to create an amazing and unprecedented opportunity for eight unsigned bands to transform over the course of only one month into seasoned musicians with an international fan base and the resilience to embark on a year long world tour.
