The lizard is gone. I bought it some crickets, but he didn't eat any.

Before he left the porch, I held him in my hand for 20 minutes. He turned the color of my skin by mixing his green and brown.

Lucky crickets.

It's out now. This is not a split Occasional Detroit came to Charleston SC, for a few days to play a show and record with me for an evening. Time flew, but every ounce of music that was squeezed from us made it either onto this album or a 7" on Human Conduct. This album is full of soul. We put everything we had into this recording. This LP will make you dance and not feel guitly about it.

So as with anything new there are some stumbling blocks, and this is no different. Good things and unfortunate things have occured. I guess the I'll live and learn, God willing.

So here is the skinny. Recently there were two lizards out on my enclosed porch, there is a thin screen that allows air to pass through, but no insects. I was suprised to find them out there. It puzzled me how they got in there. Perhaps they slid through the doorduring a time when it was unlocked and open from a breeze. The lived there a while near and around  a stack of ceramic tiles. I'd go out there daily with my cup of coffee. Sit my coffee down on the upturned AC window unit and watch them stick to the walls or freeze and change color to hide from me. At first they were expecting me to bea predator, but I never hurt them. Sometimes I would pick them up and put them on myshoulder or forearm, but never hurt them in any way. The male didn't like me handling him, and once bit me as hard as he could. He hung on the tip of my finger for two minutes. clenched as hard as he could. inflicting as much pain as possilble, what he didn't kow was that it was not painful at all. His teeth like litle grains of sand pressed agains my skin.

This interaction between me and the lizards went on. I walked out side to sit in the evening and they would be courting each other. The males pink bubble inflated with air. Repeating the inflating and deflating. The female would come forward and the would entangle to mate. I thought I might see babies eventually. All this time i wondered if they could leave this little eden or if they wished to be shown a way out. I couldn't know what the lizards wanted.

Days went by, and gets it hot here 95 degrees somedays for 8 or 10 hours. I wondered where the lizards were, so I began uplifting the tiles on the porch to search for the little friends. I foudn both of them very still and what looked to be molting. Tere little eyes looking up at me in their vulnerability. I thought I should let them be to molt, so I put the tile back and let them sit. Thinking I'd come  back the next day to see the "new" lizards and their molted skin.

I went back today. As i sipped my coffee next to the air conditioner. I noticed the usual smell of flowers and foliage was tainted with a sour smell. Just a little scent of spoiling garbage. at first I thought well my trash can smell, but my nose led me around the porch. Looking under the dog bed I found a rotting lizard corpes. I immediatly went to the tiles, there I found another stiff dried lizard corpse. An unfortunate event. The lizards may have died from heat exhaustion, trying to find a cool place is difficult on the porch. They may have died from dehydration, there is not much water either. They may have starved to death, i can't be sure what food source was nuriting them. For what ever reason they died. I could have prevented it, if i had known, but my perspective was that the lizards put themselves there somehow, and for a short time it was Eden, but they couldn't sustain it. They had no predators, but they also had no prey.

The bodies dry out there. I'll pick them up later. The little skeletons will go back into the yard to atleast return them, in some sense, to the wild.

The Gaybomb "a bomb a nation"/ Zack Kouns "Natures Orphan's" is offically out. It is a beautiful bright red vinyl there are around 200 copies of them. I havent numbered them yet. I'm not extremly happy with the sound quality. The mastering process was new to me and because of this I overlooked some defects in the recordings. The music is there, but CDr versions sounded better. I'm using different mateials and companies to remedy this problem in the future. However I'm giving this one away free it is not available for purchase, but will be sent with any orders until it is gone. Artists will have it on tour, but I have desires to print more Zack Kouns songs. Until then this will have to do.
