hi all,
we're pleased to announce a bunch of new releases available directly from us, plus some VTB, Amolvacy & Padden tour news so please read on.

VOLCANO THE BEAR - the shy volcanic society at the bear and bird parade
a brand new split cd between Volcano The Bear and La STPO
"the shy volcanic society at the bear and bird parade'
has just been released by beta lactam ring records.
5 tracks by vtb and 4 by la stpo housed in a cd gatefold sleeve.
La STPO are a great French band who sit somewhere between Rock In Opposition and post punk.

The cd is available for 10 UK pounds plus shipping. please email with your postal destination for shipping charges.
*and LP version of this with one less la stpo track is coming.........sometime*
you can listen to a track from this album at www.myspace.com/volcanothebear

volcano the bear (duo of aaron moore & daniel padden) are planning a few dates in europe this autumn. we are due to play the Centrematic Festival in Majorca on september 29th. we then head into Faust Studios in Scheer, Germany for a few days to finish recordings we started in winter 2007. then we shall be booking a small number of concerts to follow that.
there is a good possibility that we will be performing in the UK in november. we are in talks to perform at a cinematic event in London and will follow that with a few dates around the UK. more news to follow on that.......

TEXTILE ORCHESTRA - for the boss
debut cd from parisian based improv outfit on beta lactam ring records
alexandre bellenger - turntables
aaron moore - drums & percussion
arnaud riviere - mixing board & electrophone
dan warburton - violin
housed in a hardcore 8 sided fold out digi pack to contain the hardcore sounds within.the noisiest release in the vtb related catalogue. here's blrr's hilarious description:
Available in a custom made full color book bound 8 panel cd case. Featuring Aaron Moore (Volcano the Bear), Alexandre Bellenge, Arnaud Rivière, Dan Warburton in a four car pile up in two movements! Orchestral massacres in the dark. Textile’s percussive grenade bursts like Mani Neumeier threw Han Bennink at Milford Graves. TOR!!! From subtle to superlative, The Textile Orchestra lays concrete like Duchamp fixes plumbing: what remains in the smoldering ruins is pure art. Like a de-horned AACM, this monster snakes around with soft scratching sounds, whirs, squeaks, yells and electronic blurts (when it is not bearing down like the free jazz cavalry). Two long suites read like topographic maps tattooed on the backs of thoroughbreds in full gallop over a cliff (don’t worry, they have wings). A beautiful blur of fearless, precision sound sculpting with the occasional explosion.

The cd is available for 10 UK pounds plus shipping. please email with your postal destination for shipping charges.

and here's some news from Padden
Daniel Padden & Sarah Kenchington - album and live gigs:

Sarah Kenchington makes remarkable mechanical instruments and plays them. Daniel Padden has been working with Sarah for over a year, and they have an album 'The Bellow Switch' available any day now on the Shadazz label (www.myspace.com/shadazzrecords).
On the album, Daniel's role is engineer, editor and arranger - he has taken the recordings of Sarah playing, and sculpted them into the pieces you hear on the album.
There are photos and music from the album at www.myspace.com/paddenkenchington
- please do check these recordings and pictures out - Sarah's instruments really are amazing.

Daniel and Sarah have a live performance coming up, where everything will be performed live:

18th July: Durham Brass Festival

In addition, The One Ensemble Orchestra has a new album out called 'Other Thunders', which features an expanded 7-piece line-up of The One Ensemble. There's a review on Brainwashed here:

hi all
new releases available to order now.
please mail for shipping costs (please state destination) and payment methods.

COURTIS/MOORE - BROKEBOX JUKE - LP ONLY - NO-FI (hear tracks at www.myspace.com/aaronmooretheaccidental)

here's what no-fi say:
courtis / moore – ‘brokebox juke’ gatefold vinly lp

alan courtis played electric & acoustic guitars, organ, homemade violin, bells, synth, processing & objects
aaron moore played thumb piano, electric guitar, cello, drums, percussion, trumpet, piano, beard trimmer, violin, voice

you’d never guess that this album was recorded by correspondence between buenos aires and brooklyn, as the sound of a full multi-faceted band in a warm room rises from the vinyl. alan courtis and volcano the bear’saaron moore throw down delicious rhythmic textures, mariachi-tinged improv, brooding desert psych and more.

in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with photos by moore.

here's a review from foxydigitalis:
If only all postal collaborations sounded as alive as this one, Anla Courtis (Reynols) and Aaron Moore (Volcano The Bear) have put together a beautifully organic effort for NO-FI. The most important characteristic of the album is the scintilla of sunlight-drifting dust that settles over Brokebox Juke, the kind of barely there unifier that makes this LP seem like a real-time recording. From the fly-tipping pastoral charm of “prorgreso = ropes gro” to the duo-do-four-piece krautypsych of “gigngante = anti egg” Courtis/Moore have created finely-formed and textured arrangements across the record. Junk grooves, trumpet parts and acoustic guitar notes are layered like cross-fire breezed melodies from open studio windows looking out on city streets and open fields, this manages to be one of the most engaging, and naturalistic collaborations in recent years – and these guys didn’t even meet! Imagine one piece of gatefolded vinyl that is the summation of everything the Last Visible Dog label has ever promised to deliver. This is it. 9/10 -- Scott McKeating (17 March, 2009)

here's what mimaroglu say:
i make my love for courtis / reynols’ various transgressions known throughout these pages, but i’m also a hugefan of the past & present lineups of vtb ; with these guys’ wildly vacillating stylistic allegiances, this really could have gone in any number of directions ...

well, i’m glad to report that it does !!! starting out with a pastoral piece that bridges richard crandell’s earlyfingerstyle work with his later mbira patterns, the duo quickly move on into amp-tremolo gating & scrabblyguitar figures that really wouldn’t seem out of place on either band’s recordings ... but just when you think the album’s going to descend into post-nww tape-mangled improv gurk, they drop a super chilled latin-american sounding phrygian jam, replete with a morricone-esque distorted trumpet solo.

the record continues on in similar fashion (including a massive la monte young lineage string-drone piece, all but dominating the second side) ; no question these guys are masters of their respective idioms, and it’s great to hear them stretch out ... highly recommended !!!

hi all
The Mountains Among Us by Volcano The Bear originally appeared in a super limited vinyl issue in 2002. there were 3 different versions available at the time, VTB's handmade gatefold sleeve edition of 40, beta lactam ring records box set edition of 100 and a further standard edition of 50 by BLRR.
it has now been reissued as a cd in a beautiful hard back digipack cd. the design coming from one of the original VTB editions and is limited to 500 copies.
it is available to purchase now priced at 10 UK pounds plus shipping. please email us at volcanothebear@hotmail.com for ordering information. please state where you live.

below is the label's description of this release:
Editionof 500 numbered copies in a full color book bound cd case. This year sees the eruption of the Volcano with a myriad of releases leaving the town folk covered in a fine and mysterious silt of musical entropy. The limited release of 'Mountains' finds our boy's spelunking the creepiest of dream spawned caves, excavating crystalline fragments along the way, which are then set in beautiful mental jewelry appropriate for any formal occasion. Arpeggiated blurs and disinterred voices snap, crackle and pop as an unnamed rusted hulk is slowly pushed across an ever morphing open landscape. More accurately still, it's like that weird wind harp record from the 70's with a mid period NWW and Mauve Sideshow marching up opposite sides of the hill to claim the giant harp. And that's just in the first 19 minutes!. Afterwards, there is a slo-mo interlude battle between rarified VTB brand chamber music and the sounds of...things. As promised, the denouement is a brief, dare I say, pretty little whisper of pizzicato and drone. So pretty and little, in fact, that it caught the attention of my otherwise weirdness deaf partner. A real symphony of the spheres that showcases this Volcano's ability to blow its top and rain sweet tweeky kittens on the valley below.

and below is a review of the original release from mark barton @ losing today:

One of those very ultra limited releases that if youdon't own a copy yet it's safe to say you may have missed the boat. Limited to only 200 copies, the packaging on this cute thingis worth the entrance fee alone and is typical of the delicate attention paid to every aspect of their releases that Beta-lactam ring records who self describe themselves as 'the label dedicated to releasing uncommon music with unique packaging in this age of mass production' make.

This particular copy is a limited pressing of 40 issued by the band direct. The package includes a CD-R of various VTB oddities and offshoots that may or may not be in the pipeline, a plastic toy insect, signed piece of art work by Aaron plus the record itself, two elongated album length tracks pressed on 12 inches of seriously heavy duty vinyl.

'Supreme and sublime, like no other temptress is the sweet golden crest of my distant wave' takes its place on side 1. An unsettling patchwork of ominous melodic mutations, spiritual sounds from the other side, or so it seems, pour through to infect the macabre canvas provided by the Volcanos, making you feel like your partaking in a boat ride with Death. As icy and as disconnected as anything by Stockhausen, 'Supreme and sublime' appears alienated, a confusion of half hinted ideas, the friction between natural devices(the sounds of birds) and the manipulated adds to the unfathomable path which VTB furrow. The formation is all at once eerie, haunting and tense, likened to being the next victim in waiting in a Hitchcock movie.

Whereas their previous release 'Five Hundred Boy Piano' is tangible psychedelia, 'Supreme and sublime' is more intenton creating atmospheres and devising the nightmares to go with them.,in many respects it's a salute to the Radiophonic Workshop, the icy textures and sombre overlays transporting you back to the childhood nights hiding behind the settee riddled with fear at the Daleks.

'Dragon or emperor' inhabiting the flip side is a lot more forgiving, still deep in tense atmospheric textures, the sound manipulations utilise subtle Middle Eastern reference points. Sounding as though it's been divided into sub plots, it still veils a sense of unease on the listener, the drone cycles bear down ominously only to melt towards the close with some dreamy pastoral acoustics. Supplemented by a soothing string section, the pastoral ambience soon melts away to reveal a sinisterish haunting spectacle beneath. Wickedly weird.

other forthcoming releases by volcano the bear and related are:
La STPO & VTB - split LP
Daniel Padden - pause for the jet LP
Textile Orchestra - CD
The One Ensemble Orchestra - other thunders
Songs Of Norway - despite the cloak CD reissue with bonus live material
and a release by Manuelo with vtb and many more others and i don't know anything about it really
