Questions:
How do you look back on 2008?
For me, 2008 was a year of pop remixes, videogame soundscapes, and club house remixes. I was extremely busy with over 30 remixes for the likes of Queen, B52’s,Pet Shop Boys, and then off doing soundtrack work for Blizzard Entertainment’s forthcoming ‘Diablo’ computer game. Then I did some work for Native Instruments on their forthcoming product, ‘Maschine’. I’ve been also doing a sample dvd library for Zero G. This doesn’t even include the original tracks and club remixes, nor my own dj schedule! It was a great year to say the least.
What do you consider to be your most memorable achievement of this year? Anything goes!
Playing at Pacha in Buenos Aires on Christmas day was a wonderful way to end my year touring around the globe. It was my favourite club for 2008 hands down.
What do you consider have been this year’s biggest tunes?
The Joris Voorn remix of Robert Babicz’s ‘Dark Flower’, Sasha’s Involver 2 album, and Guy J’s remix of James Holden’s ‘Nothing Left’.
Have you noticed any substantial differences in (global) clubbing culture this year?
It’s just continuing onwards in a new light. Clubbers around the world love tohear good music, and they don’t care about the genre. If the vibe in the room is amazing, then that is all that matters.
What has been the most memorable event you attended (as an artist or visitor) and why?
Xxxperience Festival this year in Brazil was incredible. 30,000 people, myself,Guy Gerber, and many others annihilating the whole night and day event. There were huge roller coasters and sky diving as well, helicopter rides, you name it. One of the best festivals in the world. As for a club experience, I’d say Pacha in Argentina in September was one of my favourite parties of the year. Also Anzu in Itu, Brazil, that was just insane. I love South America so much, they have the best parties in the world.
What will you remember most of this year, non-musically speaking?
That I fell in love with the most amazing girland lost her all within the same year!
In one word, how would you describe 2008 as a whole?
Amazing.
What can we expect from you in 2009?
An artist album with A list pop stars singing on my records, it will all 90-105 BPM hip hop infused electronica (think Amon Tobin mixed with The Prodigy). Also plenty of original material, and tons of other artists from around the globe releasing material on one of my 3 labels. We are also aiming for another couple billboard chart hits again by the years end.
How do you think the scene will develop in the new year?
It’s getting more melodic again, it’s getting housey, disco-funk oriented. And the old schoolers like Pete Heller, Robert Babicz, Rebirth Records, and many others are doing a fantastic job of showing the new kids how it’s done.
Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
Thank you to everyone so much for the kind words and emails, I appreciate it so much and it means the world to me. I don’t have time anymore to respond to them like I used to but you guys are great, and thanks for that.
