Album autoproduit (La Colline Prod.) 10 titres
Copernic#, l’électro-choc.
Après un premier album composé en 2007, sorti sur le label LaTour Records (USA), le duo Copernic# a évolué.
Là où le premier opus était plutôt calme et planant, le second est définitivement un pied de nez à l’électro ambiante. Régina et Yann se sont entourés de deux nouveaux musiciens depuis cette époque, Nico à la batterie et Arnaud à la basse, et cela a, apparemment, contribué à une belle évolution musicale. C’est donc à quatre qu’ils nous présentent « 24 lights ».
Que dire ?
C’est très soigné, très carré, les dix morceaux se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas, chacun a son ambiance, sa personnalité. L’atmosphère est parfois chaude et chaleureuse (Almost in trance), parfois légère et piquante (Bond girl), électrique sur « Sweet love », ou encore nostalgique sur « The beauty », morceau sublime. Sur « The wizard », on a, à mon sens, un joli mélange de guitare à la Mogwai et de voix à la Sigur Ros, qui rend ce morceau absolument magique et fascinant.
Que dire d’autre ?
La voix est formidablement maîtrisée, tantôt sensuelle, suave, tantôt planante (« Welcome to Minea », à deux voix avec Arnaud, est géniale !), les basses, la guitare et la batterie se répondent et s’entrecroisent dans un ensemble cohérent et homogène. C’est grandiose !
Enfin, sur scène, l’impression qui s’en dégage est celle de quatre colosses qui en imposent et qui imposent le respect. C’est classieux et envoûtant. Un bon conseil donc : courrez les voir !
Pour finir, je dirais que Copernic# a passé le cap du deuxième album avec succès car il a su se renouveler tout en gardant ses influences et son identité qui lui est propre (le groupe est repassé à l’auto-production) : « 24 lights » s’annonce déjà comme étant un des meilleurs cd de 2009 au niveau local.

Copernic#, the electro-shock.
After a first album in 2007 released on the label LaTour Records (USA), the duet Copernic# evolved. Where the first opus was rather calm and flying, the second is definitively a thumb to your nose to ambiant electronica. Regina and Yann have now surrounded themselves with two new musicians: Nico on the drums and Arnaud on the bass, which contributed to a beautiful musical evolution. It is thus to four that they present “24 lights" to us.
What to say?
It is very neat, very square, the ten tracks are followed but do not resemble, each one has its own environment, its personality. The atmosphere is sometimes hot and warm (Almost in trance), sometimes light and spicy (Bond girl), electric on “Sweet love”, or nostalgic on “The beauty”, sublime piece. On “The wizard”, there is a nice mix of guitar in the Mogwai style with vocals like in Sigur Ros which makes this track absolutely magical and attractive.
What other to say?
The vocals are tremendously controlled, sometimes sensual, smooth, sometimes flying (“Welcome to Minea” - Reginas vocals together with Arnauds - is brilliant!), the basses, the guitar and the drums are answering one another, crossing in a coherent and homogeneous unit. It is imposing!
Lastly, on stage, the impression which emerges of the band is the one of four giants who impose respect. It is classy and haunting. A good advice to all of you: run to see them play live!
To finish, I would say that Copernic# passed the course of the second album successfully because they managed to renew themselves while keeping their own influences and their identity (the band is now back to self-production): “24 lights” is announced already as being one of the best Cds of 2009 at the local level.
