Τι κάνεις στην Βαρκελώνη ενώ βγαίνει όπου να ’ναι ο πρώτος σου δίσκος; ....

Προσπαθώ να τα πάω καλά με τις περιοχές με άπειρη ζέστη. Οπότε είπα να έρθω απευθείας εδώ, που έχει συνέχεια ήλιο. Είναι αρκετά παράξενα για την ώρα και το κακό είναι ότι έχει άπειρη υγρασία και είναι Νοέμβριος και φοράμε κοντομάνικα. Αν είναι δυνατόν! Είναι όμορφα όμως γιατί έχει θάλασσα και ποδήλατα. Αλλά δεν αντέχω άλλο ήλιο.

Μου έστειλε ο Blend το mixtape σου, λέγοντάς μου ότι είναι προπομπός του cd, και ότι κάπως έτσι θα κινηθεί. Ομολογώ ότι με εξέπληξε ο πειραματισμός, η μικρή διάρκεια των κομματιών και η χρήση πολλών εξωτερικών ηχογραφήσεων. ....

Ο δίσκος είναι στην ουσία οι διακοπές και τα τυχαία σαββατοκύριακα μου στην  Βέροια. Απογεύματα στο σπίτι του Στράτου, βόλτες με το αγροτικό στα βουνά και άπειρες ώρες με το sampler, ένα φορητό πικάπ και τους δίσκους που βρίσκονται στο σπίτι μου από πάντα. Κυρίως άκουγα Lucio Battisti και προσπαθούσα να καταλάβω πως δουλεύει το sampler μου και πως γίνεται να γράψω μουσική χωρίς τον υπολογιστή μου.Ο τίτλος του album είναι “Stitches”, και έχει κυρίως μικρά τραγούδια, επηρεασμένος απόλυτα από το “Donuts” του Dilla, τον Moondog και τα πρώτα E.P.'s των Minor Threat.

Πως προέκυψε η συνεργασία σου με την Cast-a-Blast; ....

Όταν μαζεύτηκε ένα ικανό πλήθος από σκόρπια beats, προσπάθησα να τα βάλω σε μία σειρά. Καθώς άκουγα όλα αυτά, σκεφτόμουν ότι είναι τόσο sampled based και hiphop η προσέγγιση (παρά το γεγονός ότι δεν έχει Mcing, αλλά ποπ φωνητικά) και φαντασιωνόμουν ότι θα ήταν πραγματικά τέλειο αν μπορούσα να το βγάλω σε ένα καθαρά hiphop label. Και ύστερα τρέμοντας, το έστειλα στην Cast-a-Blast. Μετά από μερικές βδομάδες που απάντησε ο Blend και μπορώ να πω ότι χέστηκα πάνω μου τουλάχιστον 12 φορές εκείνο το απόγευμα. Από την χαρά κυρίως.....

Πως νιώθεις που βρίσκεσαι στην ίδια οικογένεια με Blend, BnC, Sugahspank και Palov; ....

Και μόνο που είμαι σε μία hiphop εταιρία σαν την Cast-a-Blast με κάνει να ξαπλώνω και να μην μπορώ να κοιμηθώ. Την ημέρα που μου είπε ο Blend ότι του άρεσαν τα beats μου, δεν μπορούσα να βάλω φαγητό στο στόμα μου, βγήκα στον δρόμο κι έτρεχα μέχρι να πέσω στο πάτωμα. Είναι πραγματικά τρελό πως μπόρεσε  να καταλάβει την αξία του υλικού (όποια κι αν ειναι αυτή) μέσα από τα 50 mini tracks που του έστειλα. Μετά, όταν δούλευα για να τελειώσω τον δίσκο, ένιωθα τρελή αυτοπεποίθηση για το υλικό. Από το πουθενά. Αυτό από μόνο του δείχνει πόσο θεός είναι ο Blend και πόσο τυχερός είμαι που ανήκω στο label του.

Κατά πόσο ταυτίζεσαι με την έννοια του hip hop; ....

Είναι τουλάχιστον αστείο αν σκεφτώ ότι μπορεί να ταυτιστώ με το hiphop, έτσι όπως είμαι. Καταρχάς είμαι φλώρος και είναι κακό που το λέω συνέχεια. Αλλά αυτή είναι η αλήθεια. Και είναι λογικό, γιατί μεγάλωσα με Neil Young, όχι με Cypress Hill (ποτέ δεν μου άρεσαν). Επίσης, παρόλο που έχω φίλους που ασχολούνται με το graffiti (wake, rtmone), ποτέ δεν μπορούσα να με φανταστώ ενταγμένο σε ένα hiphop lifestyle ή context. Μόνο στον ύπνο μου.  Επι της ουσίας, γιατί νομίζω ότι γίνομαι κουραστικός μακρυγορώντας, η μόνη μου ταύτιση με το hiphop είναι η εξής:  DIG & SAMPLE & CHOP & BEAT.

Η αλλιώς, όπως απλά το έχει πει ο Madlib: "That's where Hip-Hop is from anyway: Records and sampling. That's what I do, you know what I'm sayin'?". Θα ήθελα για όλη μου η ζωή να κάνω αυτό το πράγμα. Τίποτα άλλο…  ....

and due to release by the end of September 2008

The album features fourteen tracks of a distinct space soul atmosphere filled with a funk-rock and hip hop mixture produced and arranged by Blend aka Mishkin.
Influences ranging from phycedelic soul to 70's heavy guitar funk-rock, spacey blues, old school hip hop, retro moods and rhythm & blues with an experimental tip.

As her music encompasses various genres she expresses interest in, the lyrics adress social realism and personal experiences often with a bitter sence of humour
as interpreted by a skillfull vocalist, often described by the press as a "chameleon".. refering to her wide field of vocal abilities beetween genres and her singing dynamics.

In our humble opinion, "The Incredible / The Invisible" has nothing in common with your average female "soul singer" album.
Sugahspank! is not only armed with a talent in songwriting and singing, she also knows how to use these powers in order to deliver
probably the sickest album coming out of south Europe in the hip hop/soul genre as we speak.
