Current mood:  disgusted
you know, i usually look forward to my monday bus route because it is the least ghetto of them all. it's a nice little stroll down chapman ave from santiago canyon college to the corner of chapman and valley view. the people usually lack foul oder and attitude but i had a real gem tonight. i roll up to one of my stops where a man and a lady were standing. i opened my door, smiled, and greeted the pair. the lady entered first and explained how she lost her "disabled" card but still wanted a day pass for a buck. i agreed. when she started dropping her nickles and dimes in the fare box i noticed her partner had a very wet crotch area in the exact pattern that takes shape when a dude pisses him self and a substance that looked a lot like vomit on his mouth. i asked what the liquid on the guy's pants was and the lady said she spilled a soda on him.

"in the shape of urine?" i asked

"uh, yeah"

"i don't feel comfortable letting you guys on the bus. is that vomit on his face?"

"no, he's fine"

"no, he's not fine. i'll give you your day pass but you can't use it on this bus. i will not subject the other passengers to body fluids. have a nice night"

"I FUCKING PAID FOR MY PASS!"

"yes, yes you did. perhaps you can use it when he dries off. i'd be happy to describe the situation to an OCTA supervisor and see if a sheriff should assess the situation, as well"

"YOU FUCKING BITCH!!!"

"have a good night, ma'am."

the bus smelled like the party bus to vegas from the sheer stank of puke and alcohol coming from this guy. i was actually grossed out which is a rare occurance. and how rude of his cohort to lie about him having piss all over his light blue acid wash jeans. fucking gross, dude!!!

Current mood:  bitchy
ok. i know i started this job with a positive attitude, vowing to smile at everybody and deliver a memorible bus riding experience to all who enter my bus, but those days are gone. sure, i still smile at everybody provided i'm on time, nobody stinks to high heaven, i haven't had to load a wheelchair, and nobody's pissing, vomiting, or desecrating on themselves or others. let me tell you about a little route i do on thursdays and fridays called route 64.

first, points of interest listed on my route sheet
TUSTIN
-tustin civic center/ library
-larwin square (a little shopping center where homeless people shit themselves and eat chinese food)
SANTA ANA
-santa ana zoo (no, that smell doesn't go away once we pass the zoo, sorry)
-DMV (need i say more?)
-santa ana transit terminal (a hub where you can catch a bus you could easily catch a block away and save me 5 minutes)
-santa ana civic center
- santa ana artists' village ( re-stucco'd buildings that still smell like someone pissed and shit on them)(bed sheet curtains are alive and well in the windows)
-county courthouse (you can only imagine the people this little landmark brings my way)
- ronald reagan federal courthouse (raspberries)
-santa ana high school (actually a sight for sore eyes in comparison of the other points of interest)
-vietnamese library (they sure as hell aren't learning english)
-goodwill (i have yet to see a goodwill but will keep my eyes peeled)
GARDEN GROVE (has no points of interest)
WESTMINSTER
-asian gardens ( a series of strip malls and traffic signals spanning 2 city blocks that takes 10 minutes at any time of the day to get through) (note-for every 50 asian persuasion cars that go in, 2 come out.)
-little saigon (asphalt hell fueled by acuras and hondas)
-westminster mall (surrounded by at least 20 unnecessary traffic signals)
-westminster memorial park cemetary (at least dead people don't drive or ride the bus)

points of interest not listed on my route sheet
- social security office (try it on the 1st or 15th of the month, it's super fun)
- homeless shelter (score a cot and some crack!)
- various mobile home parks (is there a hurricane chant or dance i could learn?)
- newhope street (a light i spend a lot of time looking at)
- lee's sandwiches (so totally packed all the time that i'm ready to invest or something)

so, for two whole fun-filled days a week i have all these cultural goodies to soak in numerous times a day.

last week some one-legged crazy dude got his wheelchair stolen from him as he drank a 40 behind 7-11. he literally crawled onto the bus like that weird monkey guy in "shallow hal". it was horrible!

today it rained. today people stank!!! today i had 2 wheelchairs (one of which was a monk that refused to pay and couldn't even fucking push himself around. i nearly broke my leg scaling the wheelchair lift to get to the sidewalk to help him). today 5 people out of a few hundred spoke english to me. today i had 8 minutes to scarf down a vending machine sandwich and smoke a cigarette.

so, forgive me if my change in attitude disappoints you. it's ugly and stinky out there. i'm still as nice as i can be given my current circumstances. thanks for reading!

Current mood:  exhausted
i am currently in my "mentor" part of my training. this means that i go out everyday with a different "mentor" and do their route so they can see how i drive and manage the plethera of duties involved in driving a city bus. i've been working varying long hours and staying with my grangma during the week since she lives 8 miles from my base and i live 40 miles away. grandma doesn't have call waiting, cable, or internet access which is why i'm only on-line on friday nights and a bit on saturday. staying with grandma allows me at least a couple of extra hours of sleep each night which makes life better for me because i'm a mess if i don't get enough sleep.

my mentors have been pretty cool for the most part. one guy was on his blue tooth ear gadget cell phone while he was driving the bus which is a pretty major infraction aside from depriving me of the resource he's there to be. i had questiond i didn't ask because i didn't want to interrupt him. i did finally report it today because he fell asleep on the bus with me yesterday. i hate to be a tattle-tale but he has no business training when he can't follow the rules hinself. the other guys have been awesome, though. on monday i was called a fucking bitch by a drunk transient. he just wanted a ride to the liqupr store, i suppose. he also told my mentor to shave his fucking mustache and show him some respect before he moved on to insulting the other patrons and, ultimately, getting in a physical altercation with a couple of patrons. i had to call the sheriff out but he got off the bus at the liquor store before the cops got to us.

i love what i'm doing, though. i smile at everybody that enters the bus and i say hello. my smile and kind greeting could be the only pleasant experience of their day so i make it a point to be friendly. i have 2 to 3 systems i need to maintain during a route and at least 3 pieces of paper i need to refer to as i drive the route including directions, street announcements per the ADA regulations, and a time check point paper to ensure i'm driving according to the set schedule. it's totally stressful and overwhelming right now but each day gets easier.

so, if you send me a message, don't be offended if it takes a while for me to get back to you. i'm working a lot and sleeping when i'm not working. i have one more week of training and then i'm off on my own to work stand-by. my hours will only get worse from here until i have some senority.

Current mood:eager for a change of scenery
is just what i need after a week of not working due to the strike. it sounds like the union is really doing it's part to resolve the issues quickly while the OCTA is standing firm and not willing to budge on the key issues (according to the union hotline). oh well. i'm going to eat, i'm going to drink, i'm going to a wedding, then i'm going to eat and drink some mo'. sweet vegas, i'm on my way!!!!

Current mood:  distressed

day 4 of the OCTA strike. it went into effect literally hours after i got my final certification and was hired on. i have not passed the picket line due mostly to intimidation and fear of the not so savory looking coach operators staring me down and waving their signs in my face. i tried to go to work this morning and the same thing happened but luckily 2 of my trainers were on the line and had a cornucopia of information for me. they told me that 3 of my fellow classmates had crossed the line and are now eligible for a 15 thousand dollar fine and a 20 year suspension from the union as well as a career of ridicule if they don't get terminated first. linda and ed (my trainers) also said that none of the coach operators would return to work until every last coach operator, including me, was rehired. so i plan to show up every morning, call the window to let them know that i'm there, ready to work but cannot cross the picket line, and go back home. this morning i signed the union sign-on sheet at the base so there will be no doubt that i was there and informed both the company and the union of my presence. if the strike continues through the end of the week i will start looking for other employment. i've been a nervous wreck but talking to the trainers made me feel a lot more confident about my decision not to cross the picket line. the company and the union have been in negotiations since 1pm yesterday afternoon and are still at it. hopefully they can resolve the issues and let me get back to making money transporting hookers and homeless people.

Current mood:  disappointed
....and  so i bring you "swamp thing"...

I can already hear your tune
Calling me across the room
When the world and his wife are on my back again
Not enough pleasure, too much pain
When the world is too much with me (Please leave--just go away)
I lose my mind completely (Please leave--just go now)
In the side street something's moving
Look around, look around
All around you walls are tumbling down
Stop staring at the ground
I can practically see your face
And another revolutionary falls from grace
Hear the thunder in your brain
Not enough sunshine, too much rain
When the light of life has gone (No change for the meter)
And then the king of spivs will come (Selling blood by the liter)
When nothing's sacred anymore
When the demon's knocking on your door
You'll still be staring down at the floor
Not too many hours from this hour
So long
The storm comes
Or is it just another shower?
Picking up the pieces
Half alive in a nine-to-five
Vacant eyes
Is it any wonder?
Rhyme and scream at the TV screen
Close your eyes
Now the world is too much with me (Please leave--just go away)
Before I lose my mind completely (Just leave--please go now)
Now nothing's sacred anymore
When the demon's breaking down your door
You'll still be staring down at the floor
Not too many hours from this hour
So long
The storm comes
Or is it just another shower?
Now the rain has come
Or is it just another shower

Current mood:i feel like kristy mcnichol
i was officially invited to participate in the training program for the OCTA which pretty much means i have the job if i can survive the 6 weeks of training. i have already typed up, printed and signed my letter of resignation which i will be submitting in like 45 minutes. i'm so excited!!! i reluctantly omitted the "shove it up your butt" sentence from my resignation letter. i figure i'll be nice in case i have to come crawling back to this hell-hole someday.

i think only miss kristy mcnichol knows how i feel right now...

Current mood:  good
i did it, i did it!!! i passed the test and pretty much aced the interview. when the interview, this morning, came to an end i asked the two men that interviewed me when i would hear back from them. they told me it would be 5-7 working days and then asked me to wait in lobby while they looked over my interview answers. when they called me back in they asked me if i wanted full or part-time work. i answered "full-time". then they asked me when i could start. i told them june 13th (which is the first available orientation date). they then congratulated me and directed me to the HR lady to make sure everything was set to send off for a backround check. so, pending the backround check and physical, i have a new job. i'm so excited. i'll have to go through 6 weeks of training (including one friday night drive from 2pm to 11pm). pimps, drunkards, transients and hookers look out!!! here i come to transport you!!!
